Some of the animal handling techniques were quite poor and I would be very upset if I saw my animal treated or spoken to that way.
I have also found that the client communication has been poor in many situations. The most disturbing circumstance was regarding clients who wanted to discuss euthanasia but were not allowed that opportunity due to "hospital policies". A lot of thought usually goes into these decisions (especially with critical and palliative care patients) and I would be upset/distressed if I was denied this discussion when I was finally ready to euthanize my pet.
In all fairness, I recognize that most of the clinicians on for the holidays are interns and that it is a teaching hospital... But I still wouldn't bring my own pet there.

I concur if they have any embroidery preventing you from bleaching them. But, in my CNA days, I remember getting all sorts of yucky things on my scrubs and loving that I could come home and wash them with bleach and hot water. That combo will get anything icky out and you can only really use bleach with white!
Kind of a ranty rave, but whatever. Since hitting my head in September I've been having issues writing... scrambling letters, substituting similar words to the one I was trying to write, etc. It's hard to explain... I know what word I'm writing but a different one appears on the page... abnormal/abdominal, monograph/monogram etc. Saw the neurologist today. The real ravey part is that there's no major brain injury visible on MRI. And the kind of ravey part is that what I'm experiencing is a real thing with a name... agraphia... so it's not just me. But the ranty part is that there's no direct treatment. It can be improved by long slow rehab... which I'm going to get lots of since being a student involves, well, writing... but there's no guarantee of complete resolution.

My Mom deals with the same thing, it's very frustrating so I know your pain. I'm here if you ever want to talk about it.
Thanks Coop <3 I may take you up on that. I have to admit I was a bit concerned about how I was going to write progress notes for surgery in... gulp... a week and half! But now have a medical note allowing me to use a laptop so I can correct things without crossing out every second word. So I guess understanding doctors are another rave!
Got an in person interview for a real adulty type job, applied to 3 more jobs in my home state (that I want to move back to), and my paper was accepted for publication. Woo adulting!

For those who still care about the saga, a slightly ranty rave. For one thing, I think my head's as healed as it's going to get. I did a full day of lecture yesterday without concussion symptoms. Big rave! But I'm agraphic now. Moderate rant. Which may never fully resolve. But the treatment is rehab, which basically means write more, so that's taken care of what with being a student and all.... Rave-ish...?
The other thing is that I got a clean bill of health from cardiology. Rave. But it means that we still have no idea why I've been fainting for 30 years. Rant, but not a massive one since it's just back to business as usual. Happily my echo was all clear. Rave again! Because I was diagnosed with Ehlers-Danlos last month. Rant, but also kind of rave since it wraps probably 95% of my long medical history into a nice package. So aortic aneurysms are a thing I'm going to have to be regularly screened for.
Just plain <sigh>
But really if you look at the overall balance of rants and raves, I'll take it.

Ehlers-Danlos is such a wonderful mixed bag of things. I hope that all the badness stays away, and you only get to see the nicer side effects! The fun part is that there are differing varieties, so hopefully it will be the more benign version. Just having a diagnosis can be a relief!

You ever need to vent about EDS, PM me. I've been diagnosed for 6 years now. I have a bunch of comorbidities with it. And yes, seeing a cardiologist regularly is a good call.
Thanks! Waiting on genetics, but I'm told I'm either hypermobility or classical type. I tried to count and I came up with 9 things either for sure or probably caused by it, not counting the obvious pain/dislocations/arthritis. I may have missed some. The good news is that I've learned over the years to put subluxed or dislocated things back where they belong by myself, so I don't have to go into emerg very often for it. I'm loose enough that if it'll come out I can usually get it back in. I sleep on my side and part of my morning routine is reducing my down shoulder. <sigh>

The last season of RuPaul's Drag Race had a EDS competitor/queen, she used the hypermobility to her advantage. She still struggled a lot with the paid when it flared up but it was nice to see what she could do. If you google too much you might spoil the results of the season, but I think it's a pretty awesome show if anyone is inclined to watch it. Good for expanding your comfort zone, reviewing all the most recent catty insults, and getting a dose of faith in humanity. It's nothing but wholesome under the glittery, tucked surface.
I'm soooo relieved and happy right now. After discussing my frustrations with my school's VTH last week on here and then with some other people, I decided that I would seek out one last opinion.
So, I made plan to have a second opinion today, and talk to the Dr who was originally doing her biopsy, yesterday, because I had not actually spoken with her directly about just forgoing surgery's recommendations and just taking it off.
So I did call the Dr at the VTH yesterday, and she didn't explicitly say she couldn't do it, but didn't explicitly say she could since she hadn't seen it. Which makes sense, but it didn't really help me make a decision.
Anyways, we went to the other clinic today and it was perfect! The Dr heard me out, agreed with my decision, and is confident about doing the procedure. I got a very fair estimate and now she is scheduled for next week to have it removed.

Glad it all worked out! I really like that clinic. When I moved here I had 18 year old kitties and didn’t want to stress them out with super long VTH appointments and started taking them there. Both doctors have always been so amazing and kind. My senior ladies have both passed away now, but I still take my kitties there for their annuals and other visits when I can even though it costs me more just because I feel so comfortable with them and have had such a great experience there always.
Yes, I feel the same! I only met the male doctor but he was great.
And now in just a couple weeks Cookie will be mass-free and so much more comfortable
I don't have a TV here. Not much of a watcher to begin with and no time anyways. But maybe the next time I'm free I'll see if I can stream it somewhere.

Now that I've told everyone I need to tell in person, I can officially say here that I got engaged on Monday!!!
Cookie's surgery was moved up a week (they called and were trying to fill up today's schedule) so I actually dropped her off this morning. Dr just called said it went well and I can pick her up this afternoon. 🙂 I'm going to take the mass home with me next time I go to Seattle since I worked at a path lab, I can cut it up myself.

I’d also be totally down to set something up if others wanted to help me mod/create. While I don’t know much about modding, I love the writing of these games and would like to learn more about modding and game mechanics

So my dog has diarrhea (weird rave, ikr?), but I can actually feel a palpable difference in his abdomen!! Like, instead of palpating normal weird squishy intestinal stuff it feels extra squishy with some gas mixed in!!

Minor: I got my independent research project for next year approved. 🙂
Major: I got a super complimentary email from the anesthesiologist on how I handled my challenging cat anesthesia this week after I shot off a note thanking her for keeping a close eye on me with it. I got very little out of the anesthesia course the first time around, but this year with different profs it went much better! Kitty's baseline heart rate was bradycardic, but she was super sensitive to stimulation. Basically every time the surgeon touched anything at all it'd spike and she'd become tachy instead. Last year I felt completely unprepared for anesthesia when we went into the OR, and this case was actually the most comfortable I've felt doing it by far. I appreciated not feeling overwhelmed and lost, and getting that email felt really good!

I had an amazing day today. We had a 2 yo German shepherd in to get neutered. He was cryptorchid and also had an umbilical hernia. The good testicle was taken out first and the hernia was repaired second. By the time the doctor got to finding the second testicle, he told me to scrub in!!!! I got to reach in to the dogs abdomen and hold the walls of it back so he could look for it. I know this is pretty normal for those in school already but as a vet assistant who is still finishing up her pre reqs and applying to school, it was pretty awesome!
Every step counts and is amazing!
I took off my first major(ish) lump yesterday that was nasty and infected and required a 6 inch elliptical incision to get all the affected tissue. Had lots of guidance from the supervising vet and she helped me grab and ligate bleeders (never had to do that before!) but did the vast majority myself. I was pretty darn pleased!

Never ever forget the first surgery I scrubbed in on. ‘Twas so surreal and exciting.
I’ve done and/or scrubbed in on tons of surgeries since and still get that happy excited feeling every time I step in the OR. ‘Tis a good place.
