Had a crappy week at my job, BUT I’m moving to the desert on Sunday. I can barely wait!!!

Have fun! The Southwest is gorgeous and I miss the saguaros, desert sunsets, wildlife, and cool weather (monsoons, haboobs) in AZ.Had a crappy week at my job, BUT I’m moving to the desert on Sunday. I can barely wait!!!
That is awesome and I'm jealous. We are losing an associate and the best mentor to me in 2 weeks and I am terrified. Not only am I really going to miss her as a friend and mentor, I am terrified about losing a doctor in the midst of both summer and COVID stuff. Our ad hasn't been up that long yet but I don't think we've gotten any bites. The only silver lining and "rave" for this thread is that I'll get to move to her desk once she leaves. I've been stuck at the dingy corner desk in the doctors' office since I started 3 years ago and her desk is against a window and she can keep plants alive on the windowsill...and I'll have an actual closet rather than just a coat rack...I'm so excited. We might be getting another vet and I'm so excited. Because today was bananas, and I want more help.

I recently asked a new receptionist to put a chart "on my desk" and she goes, "you mean in the corner?"I want a desk 😢
At the older clinic there is a small bit of counter that all the doctors share. Sometimes there are 4 of us there at the same time. I always feel like I'm in the wayI recently asked a new receptionist to put a chart "on my desk" and she goes, "you mean in the corner?"
yes. my "desk" is a corner with a computer. don't rub it in!

We have a tiny shared piece of desk crammed with three computers and three phones. The clinic where I’m solo I have my own station which is nice. At my new job I’ll have an office 😱At the older clinic there is a small bit of counter that all the doctors share. Sometimes there are 4 of us there at the same time. The commute is short, the cafeteria usually has what you want to eat without waiting in lines, and your favorite companion may very well be right there at your desk most of the day. Housekeeping is usually very nice. (ok, so my hubby is retired, he comes and dusts, I get a kiss, beats the office any day) However, at times, I do miss the human interaction from my office office. We’ll soon see how an at-home office compares.
As an intern we officially had cubicles upstairs but we were explicitly told that we had to do all records downstairs in or next to the treatment area In case they needed us. In residency I had a nice shared office, but I gotta say I enjoy my private office with a window in my lab now. We’ll soon see how an at-home office compares.
Don't have a permanent office yet but will once we settle on which area of campus I'll be covering. In a temporary private office now and dang it is nice to be able to take off the mask while working on the computer. We have a tiny shared piece of desk crammed with three computers and three phones. Always say yes to armfuls of kittens 😀I had a client this afternoon who adopted multiple kittens instead of just one, so she asked if she could bring her armful of kittens to her end-of-day appointment. The techs were getting ready to hunt down the receptionist who scheduled a multi-pet appointment in a single appointment slot at the end of the day, but I said it was my fault, and they could all thank me later. The rescue is good about vet care for their kittens before adoption, so all I had to do was physical exams and talk to the owners about owning kittens. And the techs got to play with a bunch of healthy kittens at the end of the day! 😀
Submitting early you def get verified suuuuuper quicklySmall rave, but somehow VMCAS only took 24 hrs to verify my applications and it look like nothing was wrong or needed to be fixed so the anxiety can finally ease for a bit 😴

Rightttomg is it already time for the 2025 applicant cycle? This is officially the first cycle that will matriculate after I'm out of vet school
When these people graduate, I will have been graduated for TEN years. What?!omg is it already time for the 2025 applicant cycle? This is officially the first cycle that will matriculate after I'm out of vet school

I felt old today when I thought to myself "I'm too confident for this BS" when talking to a client. I've always been so full of self-doubt and I definitely have full-blown impostor syndrome 24/7, but I just couldn't doubt myself when faced with the ridiculousness that this client was spouting. And that's when I felt like a real grown-up and old. But in a good way?Wow u r old 😉
You're welcome to befriend mine. There are some bigger but none dumberI love big, dumb labs. And I got to see 3 of them today. The staff was definitely not as thrilled as I was.
Pretty sure at least 2 out of the 3 I saw today are in the running for “world’s dumbest lab”. The third was a huge lady who just really likes hugs, and will pee all over the place In total submission if she thinks she’s displeased you in any way. We didn’t get peed on today!!!You're welcome to befriend mine. There are some bigger but none dumber

Forgot another one until he did it again this morning, but every time he comes into my bathroom he will get stuck in my shower curtains without fail. I don't even understand how but he does it within 30 seconds every timeToday my dog:
- Ran into a glass door
- Twice
- Thought I couldn't see him if he didn't make eye contact
- Ran into a tree branch and thought it was trying to play with him, then accidentally whipped himself with a tree branch while playing with it
- Barked at the sound of himself in his kennel because he thought it was another dog
- Tried to lick dishes in the dishwasher but missed and licked nothing instead
- Tried to eat some mail and then pretended it was actually a dog toy instead of contraband
- Forgot to stop drinking water until I called his name and he remembered he was done. He had been drinking water for five minutes straight
- I accidentally dropped the kibbles out of his food bowl all over the floor and the first place he looked for kibbles was his food bowl. Which was upside down. Surrounded by kibbles.
I still stand by my claim that there are none dumber 😉
I'll never go back!Spayed a barely-2lb shelter kitten today and it went awesome. Also autoligating is da bomb.

Thanks! Ironically had just googled it and was watching the video on this site haha
Looks neat. Also scary. But then, I haven't spayed anything since March and in general spaying things is scary
I'll never go back!
sameeeeee. Am a convert.
Covid taking away my main surgery time in 4th year can suck a big ol' dick.
I mean I'm still learning. The main thing is this is only in cats. Dogs have too much fat lol. I'm glad I learned the hard way first but I like this technique waaaaay better. I also don't have to worry about my knots coming undone because I feel like autoligation is way more secure. Idk whyWould you say this is something you were ok learning because you were already comfortable with spays? Or something you wish you'd done when still learning?
I'm having a very hard time wrapping my head around being a DVM and needing to spay things when I am 0% confident haha. I like this a lot in theory but am unsure if I should get comfortable with regular ligation before trying this etc etc.
Covid taking away my main surgery time in 4th year can suck a big ol' dick. I can chop balls off anything but abdomens are scurry

I learned "typical" spay techniques and high volume basically at the same time during school. They're both helpful.Would you say this is something you were ok learning because you were already comfortable with spays? Or something you wish you'd done when still learning?

They really are. I don't know how anyone does big dog spays without them.miller or strangle knots are the secret to dog spays...which you can also learn from a video🙂
