Thought about it...if a pt looks at your face oddly like you have something on it, and you know you may, do you ignore their looks or do you try to be sneaky in wiping it off or woud you just say something?

Med school, it is school by school. Residency, it is a requirement (except maybe for path,psych,derm,ophthal,etc.)
 
No computer for me for a week...in the shop for minor repairs. But I did manage to start packing stuff up last night since I had nothing else to do (at my parents' now though).

Feels so good to no longer be an intern. Last shift was last night...and tomorrow I start trauma bright and early at 6am. Oh what an arse kicking it will be.

Good lord. If I keep up at this rate, I will have my RRC requirements completed after intern year, maybe before.

Suffice it to say it was a good night.
 
I would like to add that if you drive a convertible, for some reason 70 feels a lot colder when you are used to 100. It does make you drive slower though.

Enjoying my daycap now. Back to work tonight.
 
Still no computer. Hopefully tomorrow, or it will be a really long weekend and I will pretty much finish packing (if I only had those boxes...)

So found out parts are on back-order. No computer until next week. Did get some boxes...lots of packing will happen this weekend (what else am I going to do?) Already finished the shelf and desk. And disassembled a few things. And shoes are packed.

Went to the beach today. Same as last weekend. And the weekend before that.

Have I mentioned how happy I am that I'm not a surgery resident anymore?
 
Finally finished up the transtional EM year and joined the 'cool group' in our Emergency Medicine department.


Also got my BlackBerry Pearl Cell Phone with PepId (in lieu of a pager; bill foot by the dept of course), new Dell Laptop with Office 2007 and a leather case, Ipod 80gig, 9 pairs of monogramed scrubs, Rosens text... I think thats all they gave us? Free high speed internet at home also....

Had fireworks and brisket last night with our crew (might have been something else that starts with a B mixed in there too); Mississippi is a GREAT place!
 
Seriously...you new interns are slacking off. I would be on here more if I had access to the internet more often...and a computer
 
It's been a productive few weeks for me. Let's see

Take Vacation: Check 😎
Learned how to put in IVs: Check (have the bruises to prove it)
Intubation session: Check
Met with school's EM PD on career mentoring: Check

But you've also been posting...so yes that does count. There are a FEW others though that are really slacking off.

Told today that I may have my computer Friday or Monday...longest service time I've ever seen. I'll get it back just in time to pack it up...maybe make a few CDs for the road.

First couple shifts went as well as first shifts could. Have to drive 2 hours to take ATLS this weekend (the joys of being the first on trauma in my class). That is pretty much it. Hope everyone else is doing well.

i feel ridiculously incompetent every second of the day...
 
every time i think i have reached new levels of stupidity... i suprise myself with an even higher level... don't ever get sick in july
 
So I may have a problem...

One of my two EM (audition) rotations (and program of great interest to me) has yet to confirm my start date (in 3 and 1/2 weeks). The site has been corresponding with me, but awaiting "departmental approval" of my requested dates slot. I first applied for this rotation in March. I called about 2 weeks ago and emailed 2 days ago with no definite answer. I hate to be a pain and harass them, but I also do not want to lose the chance to 1) show my stuff and 2) get an additional SLOR.

Should I call the program director? Or is this a sign I should start searching for another audition site? I worry this is a mark of some institutional disorganization, but I would hate to burn bridges by jumping ship so early in the process.


Thoughts?
 
I wouldn't call the program director - they usually have very little to do with the day to day stuff like that. I'd call the program coordinator and ask.

Can't believe this thread started on 4/17...that's a whole 3 months ago, and we are only this far. We need new recruits.
 
Had to buy a new phone today. Went ahead and got a local number as well. It is odd, because I had the other one for 5 years. Just felt like changing it.

I think it is important to end lives with compassion, but I feel like at least half the MICU population are lost causes you are just keeping alive until you can convince the family to let go, so few actually get better 🙁
 
but I love the MICU - the critical pts and the procedures are right up my alley
 
and I like being the only doc in there at night - big cheese 😀

I still haven't gotten used to, "Doctor, thanks doctor, Dr. Hard24get, please doctor, what should we do doctor? etc, etc, etc" 😛
 
Got my a$$ kicked on my second shift in the department tonight. I feel only a little bit better that the upper level resident said it was the worst shift she'd ever worked as well.
 
and the interns are well-treated here. They make sure we eat and sleep and learn; and they listen to our ideas. I feel loved even though I am on the bottom of the totem pole 😍

at least you know what it's like to work in your ER. I won't be seeing mine until the end of the year! 🙁

I can't get used to that one either. I feel like I'm lying every time I say it.
 
considering the admits we get from the ER, they are having some fun down there! 😱
