EM2BE, you ever gonna update the schedule in your signature? I mean, now that you're matched and all, what else do you have to do...

On the "having nothing else to do" note, let me say that I'm really looking forward to being done with Step 2 CK next week. One of my classmates on AI just took CS yesterday. During rounds, she had this dazed-but-happy grin on her face. I asked her why. "Because when I go home tonight, I have NOTHING hanging over my head anymore—other than the Match."

T-minus eight days 'til I'm there!

how much are you guys taking out for the residency relocation loan?

I'm waiting to see where I match before taking out the loan -- as I think distance will play a major factor in how much stuff I choose to move and how much I sell.

Edited it just for you 😛

I had some savings, so I used those, but I would wait until after the match to decide an amount.

You will need enough to:
a) Cover living expenses for June and possibly part of July (first paycheck might not be until the end of July depending upon how your program handles payroll!). Keep in mind that you might be more social than usual if your program has an orientation - lots of free time, new classmates = going out.
b) Pay security deposit (I had to pay first, last, and security deposit equal to a month's rent). Pay rent for June and July (since it's due July 1!).
c) Cover moving expenses including any hotel rooms you might need if your program is a full day's drive from where you currently live.

For me this came to about 5,000. I didn't move very far (60 miles), had family help and paid about $300 to some family members for their help. Rent and housing was obviously a massive expense, given that I paid the equivalent of 4 month's rent by the end of July!!!!

Dammmmmnnnnnnnn thats a lotta rent money....

So this whole step 1/COMLEX thing..... yeah.

<---- already over studying.

I'm ready for Thursday to roll around so that I cannot change my ROL even if I want to.

I hear you. I'd been holding steady for the last three weeks but I decided to change it up a little over the weekend.

I really want to just stop thinking about the Match, period.

Good luck to all of you. As I understand, it's great to have the ROL in, nothing you can do but worry at that time. Then the match comes!

I'm eating frosting right out of the container. Stress? 😳

Yes! Finished with my last clinical rotation of the year!

I'm thinking of seeing "Shutter Island" this weekend. Anyone see it yet? Comments? Thoughts? I also want to see "The Crazies".

I can't even express how jealous I am...I've completely checked out, yet I have 11 weeks of rotations left. 😱

4 more weeks left...and it's radiology. Also finally back to my other home.

scary to know that nrmp already has my match result in hand! i wish i knew someone who works at nrmp!

I filled out the NRMP user questionaire ...

I didn't really have much to say on my use of the NRMP system, except that a faster result would save a good deal of stress & worry.

I know it's all out my hands, interviews seemed to go pretty well, and in my saner moments I can tell myself there's no reason why i shouldn't match somewhere I really want to go. But all this, or indeed reassurance from resident friends not to worry, doesn't stop me from worrying - and I'm usually pretty sensible.

Matchitis sucks.:xf:

Congrats on making it through interview season and good luck to everyone in the match!

I wrote the same thing on my NRMP questionaire. Waiting till 3/15 to know if you matched is completely unacceptable. I can no loger tolerate the waiting!!!! I wish i could just go to sleep and wake up and it be 3/15. Now that i think about it, there might be a way...anyone know how to get in contact with Dr. Conrad Murray??

on my last rotation, pathology. so nice to have a chair and a working computer that IT has not blocked gchat. also nice that i dont have to get in until 10-1030am and get out by 3-4pm

As an aside note, you can may be able to bypass IT filters with gmail and gchat by using "https://..." instead of "http://...". For some reason, inserting the 's' at the end of the http works for me at the CDC...go figure.

Haven't tried facebook but it doesn't work with espn =(

I tried it last night on facebook and it worked. But every time you navigate away from your own page, it gets re-blocked. if you then repeat the http --> https trick on these pages, it usually worked, but not always. Total hassle of a way to navigate though.

Good luck everyone.

Good luck everyone.

Thanks, roja! And the same to you on the other side!

I'm just wonder why the NRMP couldn't just release the results next week. I understand the need to ensure the fidelity of the algorithm by running it several times, to analyze the data for the annual match report, etc...but do they really need THREE WEEKS accomplish it all in this day and age?!

Oh well. Back to twiddling my thumbs...

Someone mentioned to me the other day that it was less than two weeks until match day. "Whoa! 😱," said I.

Good luck folks. If you're doing EM because you truly love it then you're gonna be pumped once you're doing it. As an intern, I've had some truly "Oh crap!" moments but also lots of "Damn, really? I did that? 😀" times too.

I can't believe how far apart the osteo and allo matches are. Allo should move theirs closer to the osteo match - or even on the same day. Plus the results and if you matched all came in the same email so you didn't have to worry all week long. Good luck to all of you - this process is just horrible! (or good if you get what you want)

Well, you wouldn't want them on the same day, but still separated. That might make things difficult for those who shoot for the moon in the osteo match but then have some safety programs in the allo match.

What they need to do is just have one big unified match. (for more discussion on the unified match idea, please see any of the two thousand threads on that topic).

hahaha...I was trying to avoid that discussion. Just saying it's unfair you all have to wait so long. I have friends who have already put down offers on houses. It seems so crazy.

If you have the osteo match after the allo match certification deadline one couldn't rank in both matches. As it is, isn't it unfair to allo students that they don't get two shots like osteos do? Not that I'm complaining, given the difficulties and narrowed opportunities that osteos have to suffer through. Just sayin.

Technically you still could rank both, just would be pulled from allo if matched osteo. I think it could be a one-shot thing, but if it were, would like if the match were in Feb and not March. It seems so late. Why not have things earlier? No reason to drag it all out.

Dear NRMP,

Would you please cease and desist with these emails you are sending me? Anytime I receive an email from you with "NRMP Match" in the title, you throw me into PVCs, thus increasing my chances of possibly lurching into a truly unstable rhythm. Sadly, I am not a doctor yet and can not likely do effective CPR on myself, despite singing "Stayin' Al-i-i-i-i stayin' alive" at the top of my lungs.

Sincerely,
Sev

It's absolutely unfair. There really ought to be one big match with all the programs. One can't argue that DOs and MDs are the same and deserve the same privileges, but then turn around and say that the extra OMM teaching that all DOs got as M1s and M2s is somehow vitally integral to the residency process.

Really, if you asked a PGY1 resident to do most of the OMM procedures that they learned as an M1 and M2, most wouldn't be able to do it correctly. And I doubt that an osteopathic neurosurgery residency (for example) is really heavy into OMM. There's no reason an MD resident couldn't be quickly brought up to speed on what little OMM the program does do.

Getting closer! One week before everything is official and you get to celebrate!

Good luck to all of you!

You really are angling for that 10,000th post eh?

😉

Ya, I'll say that's the reason. Not that I was scatter-brained and it took 2 posts to say what I was trying to say.
