That makes a whole lot of difference!

First steps to take is to get GMC registration.

It would be easier to complete House officer jobs in the UK (FY1 & FY2 - Foundation Year 1 and 2) before applying in different training programs, as you'll have UK based references.

thanx alot man, but can u tell me is there a big difference between the PLAB and the USMLE. and is it better is i do the FY1 and FY2 before taking the PLAB ?

and additional help would be super

thnx agin

USMLE is very different to PLAB.
USMLE is more difficult due to the number of tests you need to take and the number of questions they cover.

As an EU-National, you are not required to take PLAB.

so if i'm not required to take the PLAB, what is my next then, who do i contact in order to get myself into a residency program in the UK..

i know i've been a pain in the ass, thnx alot

hi,
i would like to know if someone who graduates from an australian university with a basic medical degree is able to go to the UK to do his specialist training? will the location of the graduate's internship impact the location where he will do his specialist training? for example if the graduate wants to do specialist training in the UK, is it more preferable for him to do his internship in the UK and then continue working there and with specialist training there?

or, can he complete his internship elsewhere, but go on to practise as a medical officer in the UK before embarking on his specialist training there?

thanks!

Both options are possible but I think the NHS would rather take you young and keep you in the system. UK medical students must pass a 2 year registration phase with the GMC (general medical council) that authorises them to practise unsupervised called the foundation years 1 and 2 respectively. You would need these to practise in the UK.

Theres a website called www.study-medicine.co.uk that has info on British medical schools, probably worth asking there.

apologies for barging in on this thread with my question.

i'm a british citizen and my fiance is doing his medical degree in Pakistan (finishing at the end of next year). we should be getting married this december. we've been together for ages and i really want him to come and join me in the UK as soon as he's graduated rather than do any training in Pakistan. after a lot of digging around i came across an application form for IMG's for F1 posts - you just need to prove that you have completed your degree and you have a right to work in the UK (which he will have as my spouse - i think!).

is this correct? does anyone know of foreign graduates that have got foundation year training?
if he does manage to get F1/F2 training what would his chances of getting a job afterwards be? would the fact that he should have permanent residency in the UK by then help him or would the fact that he didn't study in a UK university disadvantage him?

any other info would be really helpful too!

My understanding is if you marry him then hes effectively a British citizen to should he choose, at least in most senses. He can certainly apply for an F1/F2 post although the chances of getting one are competitive depending on what he wants to go for. Its worth trying though, he stands a reasonably good chance.

hey stoppit
