If you know you are going to specialize, would it be easier and in your best interest to apply to a program with an established PGY2 program? That way, once you finish the PGY1, you can just go into the PGY2? OR do you think it would ok if you completed a PGY1 at one place then apply again for a PGY2 someplace else? Also, assuming money is not a factor (which it is for me!) why doesn't the applicant just apply to about 20 residency programs...wouldn't it increase your chances of getting into at least one?

Thanks!!

Because you physically have to go to a site visit for all those programs which would be almost impossible to schedule.

There are adv/disadv to doing a residency at the same program. It is nice to start out off the bat and not have to worry about training....you can get started on projects right away and likely have already built relationships with other HCPs. But if you go somewhere else you get exposed to different things and can increase your networking. There isn't a right answer, just depends on your situation.

ok! thank you so much, that was a big help!!
