I thought a compilation of resources would be helpful for those creating a school list for next cycle (like myself). Please post any helpful information that may help with school decisions (Related threads, sites, PDF's, etc.). Obviously a lot of information can be found on each school's website, this thread is meant to highlight additional material.

One resource I have found useful for an overview of the process and school-specific information: http://www.aacom.org/docs/default-source/cib/cib_web_full-publication.pdf?sfvrsn=36

@EnigmaticScale would you be willing to share your ranking list and some of the methodology behind it? It may help other students determine important criteria and form their own list.

The search function is great for these purposes. It may net a lot of "school lists" in this regard.

Concur.

Isn't there an MSAR of sorts for DO schools? Most of what an applicant should know would be located there. Not trying to knock your idea OP, just saying that the info might already be available.

Calculate your LizzyM score (https://schools.studentdoctor.net/lizzym_score?reload=1&r=1483827611694) and compare it to this list provided via @Wjldenver in another thread. It's a solid way to start a general list.. you can fine-tune it as you research schools more thoroughly:

Make a list consisting of some schools below your LizzyM (safety schools), a handful close to your LizzyM (target schools), and a few above your LizzyM (reach schools.)

If you read through the school-specific threads (https://forums.studentdoctor.net/forums/osteopathic-school-specific-discussions.603/) you can find great info on the nuance of individual schools.

If you've got solid stats, I think most people apply to 10-15 schools.. If you've got borderline/lower/underdog stats, you should apply more broadly (~20.) The number of schools I suggested are only numbers I've seen thrown around on here.. it's pretty subjective/variable. Some people apply to way more schools, some less. Finances play a big role in the process too.

My opinion of schools you should consider:

Public schools, especially ones with a teaching hospital:
Ex: MSUCOM, Rowan, OSUCOM, TCOM, OUHCOM

Original 5 DO schools:
Ex: KCOM, DMU, PCOM, CCOM, KCUMB

I don't think you can go wrong with any of these 10 schools. However, if there is a school that clicks with you, nothing else matters.

For example:

If you want to go cheap since we all get the same degree-LECOM
Love good weather and an active campus-NOVA
Have a high MCAT and willing to pay big bucks- CCOM, AZCOM
Want a high intensity curriculum structured for boards- RVU, KCU

I can go on for a while in terms of groupings, but you get my point.

Top ranking schools:
PCOM, ROWAN, MSUCOM, OUHCOM, KCUMB, NOVA, AZCOM, CCOM

the rest...

fuhhgeddabout it

Thanks everyone for your responses, I definitely did not mean to add a repetitive thread.

@Alienman52 - I do not believe an MSAR for DO schools exists, which is partly why I asked for input, but yes the info is probably available elsewhere as others have suggested.

@AlteredScale - As others have pointed out, the information in this thread can be readily found elsewhere. I have gotten what I need, feel free to close the thread before any pissing matches begin.
