I was on an away rotation at Hennepin when I first encountered this research. For those unfamiliar, it's an "Active Compression Decompression" device designed to create a larger negative thoracic pressure during CPR, thus increasing preload, thus leading to greater perfusion to vital organs (coronary vasculature and brain), ultimately better outcomes in the short term. I have just started (will start on Monday) my first year of residency and would love to get be a part of this research. Unfortunately the only site involved in the study that's geographically near me is a "competing" hospital with it's own EM program/residents. Would it be completely inappropriate to attempt to make this my scholarly project and contact the institution across town to jump on board. I am ABSOLUTELY not interested in pi$$ing anyone off, I am just very interested in this area and want to learn/participate in data analysis/collection, whatever.
Any thoughts from anyone???
