Retaking Part 1 & First Aid for NBDE Part 1

I made an 82 overall, boo. I plan on applying to pediatric programs, so I'm going to retake the sucker in December, and I hope to be much more confident this time around (I was really nervous, for no reason, the first time I took it).

Also, I'm considering purchasing the (newly released?) First Aid for NBDE Part 1 (http://www.amazon.com/First-Aid-NBD...pd_bbs_1/104-9680563-0684747?ie=UTF8&s=books). I know a lot of people used the USMLE one, so I was wondering if anyone had used the NBDE version and their opinions of it.

I'd appreciate any advice on boosting my score a bit, as I feel I have a decent foundation, but I know I missed out on something the first time around (mainly, I didn't feel confident in embryology and dental histology, so any references would be helpful).

I too am re-taking part I, but probably after December. I took it the first time about 2 years ago and got an 87, but I want to apply to endo now, so I need to boost my score a little bit.
My friends that did really well (>95) said that the key is understanding the concepts in the dental decks, not just memorizing them. If you don't understand something or don't have much background knowledge in a particular subject, go look it up somewhere (textbook, First Aid, whatever has comprehensive information). Also, old tests are good, not so much for hoping for repeat questions on your exam, but testing your knowledge. If you don't do well in a particular subject when testing yourself, you know what you need to study more.
The first time around, I spent a couple weeks half-way memorizing the decks, but I didn't have much background knowledge besides what was in the decks. I think that's where I fell short.
Anyway, that's my two-cents. It's painful to think about studying for this beast all over again, but you do what you have to do.

Good luck to you all. I wonder if somebody briefly guide me through the exams and admission procedure in US. I am new to the system, and want to get an idea about the exams and the funds needed for the study.
