Rochester AEGD International Program 2016
There is no particular number of invites. Many people apply to this program so EIOH invite as many as possible that qualify to their eyes to be able to make an informed decision. Like the majority of programs....
And will i really be able to practice afterwards and get a dds title?

When i created the Post it was with the intention to be supportive to all those that are interested in Rochester. There is very few post here in SDN that are about the AEGD program. If it helps anyone, i am glad 🙂
And your chances to getting an IV are still good, dont lose hope. They may still call all those that still submitted their application all the way until august. Obviously they will start calling the candidates who submitted their application early. Keep positive, to all of you. 🙂

This is for all of those that want to know about practicing in NY. Do your own research to be more inform. I contacted NY dental board recently and this is what they replied back: Hope it helps!!!!
In order for a foreign dental graduate to become licensed in New York State, the candidate must:
take two years of additional dental education in general dentistry leading to the DDS or DMD degree in an ADA accredited dental school in the US or Canada (you are not limited to New York State Schools only);
receive passing scores on the National Dental Examinations Parts I and II; and
successfully complete an approved clinically-based dental residency program of at least one year's duration.
be of good moral character;
be at least 21 years of age;
be a United States citizen or an alien lawfully admitted in the United States; and complete coursework or training in the identification and reporting of child abuse offered by a New York State approved provider.
The requirements and application forms are available on our web site: http://www.op.nysed.gov/prof/dent/dentlic.htm
*You must have 6 years of pre-professional and professional education BEFORE you complete the 2 year AEGD program.
We hope you find this information helpful.

Thank you it was so helpful, one of my friends she's a us citizen and foreign trained dentist , she didnt take the boards yet and she doesnt have toefl , she applied to rochester and she got the iv today , did they accept with out the boards and toefl? Maybe they interview all the applicants that they apply
Not exactly. The fact that she is US citizen they will assume her english is good. And they may be giving her a chance by something they saw in her application. She will have to be very impressive in the interview to over shadow others applicants that have boards, toefl, great GPA and tons of experience. I just wish the best for everyone! In the end we are all in the same process of validating our Title here in USA.

Honestly before coming to USA, my impression of united state was very clean I mean here they look for tDid she finish any residency program in her own country?
1 residency is required if you need to practice in NY so u have to check your state's requirements@DDSNY15 thanks for sharing the info. I have a doubt ,We need atleast 1 year residency after 2 year training or its an option instead of 2 year aegd? Also 6 yrs prior education includes high school school diploma right?
So I just googled it nd found out that pre professional includes a year or 2 prior education the the profession u intend to pursue, so for us its pre dental. Does that mean an FTD who went to dental school straight after high school won't be eligible for license in NY even after AEGD?

Thats what 2 of the residents told me:
First you will be interviewed by the director that he's a bit short on his questions , he asked them why they choose UR and why AEGD program,and ask about the school they graduated in , then you get interviewed by the assistant director that he will ask more questions like about your experience and your goals , and the residents told me they are very nice and its not stressful at all, but about their stats most of the FTD that are accepted into AEGD were specialist in their home country and with much experience i asked this too but they said they dont know their criteria cuz there are residents with no experience that they're accepted to the program , so just be yourself i wish luckkkkkk for myself and everyone , im sure we are all ger accepted here in Rochester or some other schools

Hey everyone who got an iv plz share ur experience with stats if u can. If you guys are not comfortable sharing ryt now then share after the results are out. each negative or postive review wud help others decide if they want to pursue the aegd alternative over advanced standing.
So this is what's up!
Rochester is an extremely competitive program, period. They obviously want well qualified residents working for them that actually LOVE dentistry. They can see right thru you in the interview. What this means is that you can't go in thinking that you have this rehearse answer to their questions because they want honesty and for you to be yourself. Like a previous member mention in a post, the interview is not meant to be stressful but you become stress because of what's in the line. Since you know this is what you been working so far for you become nervous. Just try to be yourself, which is what i was told by many residents that have graduated from the program.
Also, there will be well qualify people with specialties and all their Stats in order like NBDE pass great GPA bla bla, and their will be others missing one board still, or not have anything done and still get an interview. That's why this program is great. They somehow give you a chance to see their program by inviting you in, they want to see the person behind the dentist. SO STOP getting so worked on "what's yours stats, please share" just focus on you and do your best
The post before stating that if you do a AEGD which is 2 years you don't need a residency extra year, is not true so far to my research and answered questions to working dentist in NY. Contact the Dental Board in NY on your own, or ADA if you want to be more sure.
The info is, and i posted it before:
if you are in a AEGD of two years you NEED a residency year EXTRA if you plan to work in NY. Period. Why>? well, NY is overflown with dentist that used to attend NYU and Columbia and somehow the state is trying to lower the number.
If you don't want to do that one more year of residency when you're done with your 2yr AEGD then move to another state, period.
If you do an Advance standing that mean you are in the third year with other dental students and you will graduate with a DDS or DMD AMERICAN TITLE and by far you do not need a year extra to practice.
Do your own research, because that's something that may be asked of you in the interview as well. Know your STUFF because if you are in US trying to pursue a professorial field such as dentistry you HAVE TO KNOW THE INFO ABOUT IT.
BTW This is for who ever reads it, not for one particular member or post.
Cheers!

For the AEGD program, yes. Depending if they happen to have an extra candidate that they definitely want to have they would open one spot for them. They have specialties that take FTD as well, and those are others spots that can be looked at as well.
