hi everyone!

I have a really really bad cold...who gets a cold at this time of the year? I feel worse today than I did yesterday morning.

So is the RFU adcom meeting today? If they do, do you think we'll find out next week about their decisions? I just can't wait until I know their decision about my app. This wait is so not helping me with my MCAT studying.

I tried calling today but got no answer. Let me know what they say if anybody gets a hold of them.

For those of you retaking the MCAT:

I took the MCAT for the second time last summer. I was really disappointed that they still only had two MCATs per year. I suggest taking the MCAT as soon as you feel ready to take it. (I would've retaken in May or June if I could've last year) It really sucked this cycle because my vastly improved scores did not arrive at medical schools until October (took the August MCAT). I feel as though I could've gotten more interviews, earlier interviews, and on top of that more acceptances. I interviewed at three places and none were before February.

Especially if you feel as though you have studied the stuff enough and know what you should. Do one practice test each Saturday and Sunday morning until the next exam you can register for and you should be good to go.

I hope so :scared: I might try calling after lunch...

Constantly Changing Midwest Weather=The potential for a cold anytime
🙁 Hope you feel better.

True, early applications are key! Ugh, taking the MCAT again seems so depressing. I might just go volunteer oversears or something, I rather do something interesting rather than go back to the library/Barnes everyday 🙁

Hopefully, I will get a hold of them later..

hi everyone!

I have a really really bad cold...who gets a cold at this time of the year? I feel worse today than I did yesterday morning.

I had a cold for most of last week. I think I just crashed after finals got done. 🙁

Good luck to you, and everyone else still waiting! In a couple more years, youll get to experience the joy of USMLE Step 1, as I am right now... :scared:

i just checked my uic status. i think they updated the online status page today. mine just says Decision Pending. Which seems to be a bad thing bc if you get in; it generally tells you to please wait 2 weeks for correspondence.
So for me, the first time i checked my email in the morning, turns out to be pretty sh*tty. yay! time to hit up the waitlist, or get rejected.

:luck: :luck:

UIC is so whacky, you never know what they are sending. Hopefully it is an acceptance!! :luck: :luck:

I take it you interviewed there...

I hate UIC! Seems like being a resident of Illinois means crap.

I completely agree. It's a way of making money for them, I feel.

When I applied to undergrad, I applied to UIC. Never heard from them. Didn't really care too much because I got into the school I wanted to, but still. They suck.

I called up RFU today and no one picked up. The operator said no one had been answering for a while at the admissions office. Maybe they are having their meeting today!

Its possible... I remember being told that their committee meetings are held on fridays.

I'm hoping, praying for an acceptance here. I was just going to send out my LOI saying that I'd turn down my other acceptance.

It would be nice if they have their meeting today.

I am in desparate need of good news right now...
just got rejected from Wayne State U after being waitlisted post interview for several months....grrr 🙁

Sorry man. Hope is around the corner for you, I believe.

so what's your status at other schools, any waitlists or acceptance?

Zip. Nada. RFU is the ONLY school that gave me an interview. I felt I did really well in the interview, but I doubt that matters much.

In the words of princess Leah, "Help me RFU, you're my only hope."

That's rough. 🙁

Ok guys so heres the advice that i've gotten today from an extremely experienced med school grad; former president of his student council. I wanted to get some input on it by you guys.

So basically I know a person who interviewed after me (mine was 3/22) and was accepted a good 2+ weeks ago. The stats are not; quite similar to mine. Implying that mine are higher. Application wise, similar but again not quite the same. Obviously just the app doesn't have everything to do with getting an acceptance.
So what this person X who interviewed did apparently was set up an appt. with someone from RFU, i'm assuming someone from admissions. Obviously setting up an appt. like that shows you have a vested interest in the school. So I was advised to do the same thing, take my LOI in personally and set-up an appt beforehand. This advice is from the med school friend who also advised person X the same thing; who got in.
Does it really make a difference though? They never responded to my phone call or email, how can I get an appt., who would i meet with, what would i talk about? Just beg is all i can think of.

I thought about that, but what would one say when meeting that can't be said in the LOI, you know? Does it serve as a second interview??

and who really feels like driving to RFU... i mean its out in the middle of nowhere to eveyrone except for those that live next to wisconsin.

anyone still contemplating the minivan?

to add to this yesterday (the same day as the Wayne rejection), got an email from Des Moines, I am on the bottom quartile of the waitlist. What's wrong with me?
basically I had four chances still left and in matter of five hours, I was left with two options...I know being on the bottom quartile is still something (i do have a small chance, but who am I kidding!). So, RFU and West Virginia, please one of you take me!

worried about med school? can't wait to find out what the decision is?
do what i do. Drink! Cheers RFU hopefulls.

This might be more for current CMS students, but I got an acceptance the other day from cms, and was wondering how well cms takes care of their students financially. Do they give you enough for everything like tution, housing, car insurance, medical bills out of student loans that I dont need to pay off until 4 years of med school? What if i need money for extra expenses such as a laptop, etc?

thank you!

when did you get the acceptance letter, when was it postmarked and dated? also when did you interview and your stats...sorry to throw so many questions at you but just wondering.

i second that... when did u receive the envelope? any post mark date?

and, oh yeah, congrats. :]

It was kind of a werid situation. I called them every 2 weeks or so to get an update. They kept telling me that there was no change. I called even like 3 weeks ago. Then, I called the other day and they told me I had been accepted a long time ago. Over a month ago. They just told me that that the acceptance letter was not sent out until a few days ago. I got it in the mail today, Sat. So....call them and check your status one more time.

Hey Guys,

Just a heads up. I interviewed there on April 10, and I just got an acceptance letter today, dated May 21. You guys might have some good news headed your way. :luck:

Not necessarily. Mail comes into LAX so it's possible that someone in L.A. would get their mail before SD and OC because they still have to bus ours out. So who knows! 😱😕:scared:

Applying to med school has totally taken the joy out of the three day weekend. It used to be: Woohoo! Three days off! Now it's: Damn. Two days of no mail. 🙄 Lame.

Anyway, I think news is coming this week so good luck to you all! :luck::luck::luck:

Seriously, now I CAN"T wait for Tuesday lol. Anyways, I live about 60 miles from RFU, so looks like im screwed 😳

Anyone doing anything fun this weekend?

I'm seeing the "Bodies" exhibit on Monday. I am really excited about it!

I went and saw my favorite band (Good Riddance) play last night. They're parting ways so this was their second to last show and I watched the whole thing from the stage. It was pretty great.

Now I need to write my personal statement so the greatness is over and the hell begins! 😀

So if people are already getting acceptence letters dated from may 21 does that mean that the committe has already met this month? Is it possible that they won't meet again until June or that when we had expected them to meet (Fri) they didn't?
I think better than asking all these questions is to just stop trying to make sense of this god foresaken process.
On that note, Good Luck!

Hi Doctor Nick! (hehe)

Are you seeing Bodies at UTC?
I've been meaning to get tickets. Maybe I'll go next week.

Okay, can I just say this? Now I'm really nervous because it *seems* that the ADCOM met on or before the 21st, which means that they sent my email (saying I'd hear something soon) after this date. If they sent me an email saying "I'd hear real soon" because my rejection letter is on the way....well that's just mean. 🙁
