$950/mo.!!! Wow, that is steep.

Is there any other housing around CCOM that is cheaper? I am thinking about applying to DO schools second time around.

it depends on alot of factors. my location is pretty prime, walking to all the shopping restaurants. 2 min from all major highways. 30 min drive from anything desirable within Chicago and all its suburbs. its also a 3 min drive to school.
if you're willing to drive 15 min then u can find apt for ~700 (a one bedroom)
if you're willing to share thats cuts cost alot more and you can find a 2 bed close to school for ~600 each. i dont really know anyone yet so i'll look to share next year and just put up with the high cost for now.

Yea, I guess I find it steep cuz I'm below I-80 where it is much cheaper to live. I think the added convenience is worth paying extra on the rent.

okay, first time posting in this thread, but i do check up on it from time to time. friend of mine who interviewed a while back (winter?) just got a call of acceptance. she isn't sure if she is going to take it yet. just thought i would give all of a little hope. good luck all, maybe your phone calls are on the way 👍

Sweet, I'd love to get a call. I think it could happen too, considering I just finished redoing my AMCAS application.

Thanks for the info...do you know if she got the call today?

I also got a call today. I was at work all afternoon so I missed the call and didn't have a chance to call back before admissions closed, but based on what everyone else has been saying I'm going to start celebrating.

I'm in state with a 3.75 gpa and a 32O (10 physical, 11 verbal, 11 bio)

Good luck to everyone else! Hopefully you'll be my classmates in a few months.

Wow, great stats! I missed my call, too. You should get some emails in a day or two. I just went up last week to find a place to live. If you're not local and you want some suggestions, PM me! If not, see you in a month!

Grats to those who were accepted today. All I got was an accident on my way home from work. Can't catch a break.

🙁

Still rootin' for ya. Not that that helps but....yeah. 😳

Yea, one of my desi friends got off the waitlist but there are just too many Indians applying to med school.

Haha. I just got the movie accepted and the new MSM reminds me of that.

I think it's kind of true tho. When i was at my interview at RFU there were A LOT of desis there. There is no way that it has zero influence over your application. I'm sure its not an over-riding factor, but still.

Side note- i went to my dr. office (dr. patel) today to get some immunizations. behind the front counter are all the files, the manilla folders with a bright letter tag on them. One entire section, 6-7 shevles high were all P's. P for patel. and everytime i go to the office, they just assume my last name is patel. i'm just waiting for the day when visa changes the name on the credit card commercial to patel instead of smith.

I think 1/3rd of my interview group was desi. It seems to be worse for desi males as opposed to females. Personally, I don't know any desi male that got an acceptance to RFU that didn't have above a 32 or above on the MCAT. I thought I was a competitive applicant with a 3.85 GPA and a 30 MCAT but apparently not competive enough.

Well, this thread is turning into a desi revolt thread.

hey, I'm Caucasian and not in (I had a friend who had an interview at Rush and they said the only problem with his application was that he is white). But let's not turn this into a hoopla of ethnic babble.

Tell me some news people! Is there still movement? Is there chance for me???

As long as you don't get a rejection letter there is always a chance. There were some acceptances on Tuesday. It seems like the last few weeks, people have been receiving calls on Tuesday if there are any open spots.

Hey guys. Just wanted to wish you all some more luck. Hang in there! If being a doc is what you want, you will get it sooner of later.:luck: :luck: :luck: :luck: :luck: :luck:

UIC basically told me that I didn't interview because I was indian. 😡

Nice!!! Make sure you go in with the mindset of rocking the program, nothing else!! All the advice I have gotten to suceed in the SMP year--become a gunner--and remove yourself from the world to just study---and have fun post tests and after you get in!

I did have a good time. The first wedding was at the same place where Eminem go married - needless to say these people were rich and I took FULL advantage of their open bar.

Second wedding was completely the opposite. Plus, because I was in it, I was put to work putting stuff together. And no alcohol! AH!

Had a good week and a half, though. Met a few girls...we'll see what happens. He he.

I'm ready to find a job and start working! I'm becoming poor!

BTW, did anyone do Taste of Chicago? Went today. I always love doing stuff like that in Chicago. I love this city!

That's funny, because I received the same e-mail yesterday as well, and have the same feelings about it...after talking with some knowledgeable folks on here, I'm pretty sure I won't end up going.

Still waiting for other SMPs though. Hopefully they'll come through!

I made the same decision, Ggnome. I think you'll thank yourself in the end.

Well, that was partly because of the advice you gave me, Heston. 😉 I think you were very right- when I thought about paying that much and possibly being worse off than I am right now, that just did it. Too much risk.

BTW, you crossed my thoughts yesterday...I was at Blockbuster & saw an old a Charlton Heston movie sitting on the shelf. Not sure if it has anything at all to do with him, but that is a cool sdn name that you have. 👍

I'll be a doctor after all. I got the call from SGU yesterday...I got accepted for the August semester and will be going there unless ofcourse RFU acceptes me.

In the end, we will all go our separate ways.

This is a very comforting thread. A very fun one. The reason why i check sdn daily. Now as classes are about to begin, most people's "back-up" plan is soon becoming a reality. Wether its attending another university, adding one more degree to your repitoire, or going abroad, I think we should all be happy that we are doing something. As we go through the next year, it's important to remember that everything happens for a reason. One of us might get a call on the first day of classes, drop everything, and run. The rest of us will continue with our lives, and eventually get where we want to be. Some people take the direct path, others just have to take a detour. Just remember, perseverance. There is no doubt you'll get to where you want to be. In 20 years, no one is going to care what you did or where you went for these 4 years of your life.
