I am not sure. I think we can get into the dorms on August 25th, so I will probably plan to get there around then. My mom will be coming too and possibly my grandmother for a little vacation, so we may come sooner.

I am excited, but nervous about moving down there. Sad to leave my BF, horses, and cats.

Thanks!! I know we have to buy plane tickets ASAP to go down there does anyone know when they are planning to get there yet?? Obviously a week early for orientation but I'm still not sure ??🙂

Congrats on getting in! Ross should send you a welcome packet soon. Maybe after May class has settled in? I know that we have to be in St. Kitts no later than Sunday August 28. 2011. You can go as early as Thursday August 25th (that's when airport pick ups will start). The mandatory orientation begins on Monday August 29 and continues through Sunday Sept. 4th for all new students.

I' will most likely arrive Saturday or Sunday August 27/28. Wanna stay in the states as long as I can :meanie:... But St. Kitts will be an experience filled with lots of edumecation and fun (from what Ross alums at my clinic say)!!

Again congrats, see you there! :highfive:

Me too, I'm sad to leave my cat 🙁 But hopefully I'll be too busy to miss her too much. My mom and dad are coming too, and my sister might fly over from Dominica since I think her break is right around then (she goes to the Ross Medical School on Dominica). I hope they email/mail us soon with more info because I'm anxious to get started arranging everything!

Ok great, ya I was thinking of early that weekend. I'm coming from the west coast so regardless when I leave it takes at least a day (or overnight) to get there. I'm definitely going to miss everything here but at least we are the ones who get to go on the adventure so we'll be too busy!

Congrats again to everyone and good luck to anyone interviewing!

Got my welcome packet today! Need to get started on everything! September will be here before we know it!👍

Hello all! FYI.. I had my interview March 29th with Leslie Anderson and received my acceptance letter in the mail on May 2nd. I did not receive a phone call or an email stating my acceptance. If you have any questions about the interview, ie what questions were asked, just PM me. I would be glad to help!

So I have a couple of my own questions. So I received my acceptance letter but have yet to receive a preparation for enrollment packet with all the immigration forms. Has anyone received theirs yet? How soon did you get it after the acceptance letter? Do you think it's necessary to buy a car on the island bc I sure can't afford one. I'm just really anxious about this whole process.

I just got my welcome packet in the mail today (I was accepted in January for the September class), so it's been a long wait for me. But I think all the welcome packets are being sent out together right now, so yours is probably on the way.

I believe we are going to be living in the dorms for 1st semester, so it's probably not necessary to buy a car right away (at least I hope not lol). But probably by 2nd semester when we live off campus, we'll be needing cars. From what I hear, the cars there are crap, to put it nicely lol.

I'm still waiting on my welcome packet as well, I'm anxiously checking the mail everyday and of course nothing! From what I've heard we don't need cars until second semester and some people share the cost with friends because you have the same schedule and /or there are a couple places to live closer to the school. I wouldn't worry I'm sure we'll figure all of that out once we are down there.

I know I will end up with a car. Very supportive momma, thankfully! I hope to find a roommate that we can share rides and do errands together etc... I think back to safety in pairs from when I was a kid. I am a super paranoid person as it is as in I won't get gas by myself after dark. Its all my mom's fault, but I guess its better to be safe than sorry.🙄

I would not mind sharing a car as long as I make it to school when I need to than everything will be fine.👍

Lol I am the type of person who would prefer to have my own car. I mean, what if the person I'm sharing the car with wants to go to the library all day, but I need to go grocery shopping, or vice versa? I just hate being stuck somewhere because I don't have a ride. Although I hear there are taxis, so who knows. We'll see I guess.😉

I think most people would "prefer" to, it's a matter of cutting costs and how good of an investment it is.

In the case you suggested, person who needs to go grocery shopping drops off other person at library, goes grocery shopping, goes back to pick up other person at library at an agreed upon time. It's not rocket science, though it does take some compromise.

I am very independent as well, so totally understand.

Yes, you make a great point. Ultimately the car would be mine, but I would share it with someone to help them out...

Yeah, I realize that it does take compromise...but then whoever doesn't have the car is kind of stuck at the mercy of whoever has the car. I mean, I've had to share a car for most of my young adult life, until about 2 years ago actually, and I've had my fair share of people forgetting to pick me up, or plans change and I need a ride somewhere but I don't have the car. I've been sharing a car for so long that I'm tired of it lol.

Anyone know if bicycles are available there? That's really my transportation of choice.

I can empathize - I've been without a car for the last 4 years since I moved to Davis. Let me tell you though, in vet school your schedule will align with your classmates pretty often and it MIGHT be easier... (YMMV!)

Haha yeah it sucks being without a car! But I guess if the schedules match pretty well, then maybe it won't be a big deal. Yeah, that sure would save a lot of money to share a car. I am glad that we stay in the dorms for 1st semester (although I hear there was recently a mold problem?), so at least we can get a lay of the land before moving off campus.

Good Luck! I will be down there in Sept. I was accepted into the Vet Prep program, but I am really hoping after they get my transcript from this semester they will put me into the vet class! I currently have an A in O Chem and with only 2 1/2 weeks left it should stay that way! I also have an "A" in bio 2...CSU didn't require I take it. Let just say the lowest grade I have gotten this semester is a 99%.:laugh::laugh: I feel like I am in elementary school. People manage to fail these test and I really think I would have to not study and take the test drunk to even get an F.

I wish I didn't have to be in St. Kitts an extra 3 months, but its worth it to be a vet.👍 My undergrad GPA is not example of my true intelligence or ability as a student, but I do understand the admissions committee's concerns as its REALLY BAD! 😉

Congrats on your acceptance!!! I was wondering... Is your GPA below 3.00... I interviewed last week and am kind of nervious because my GPA is 3.07 :/

Yes, my undergrad GPA was lower than a 3.0. 🙁 I went to a college prep private school and had super strict parents, so after studying my brains out in high school. I had a little too much fun in college. Whoops. I still graduated in 3 years because I came in with 32 credits from all the AP tests I took, but didn't live up to my true potential at all. I just went back to retake Organic chem and take Bio 2 because Colorado State didn't require it. I am happy to say I got "A"s in both my classes!👍 I was the only person in Organic to get an "A"!😀

I hear ya on that. I went to a public high school, but I had an immense amount of pressure to get involved in absolutely everything and get A's in all my classes. After all that, by the time I reached college, I was burned out and just wanted to experience life for a while, and that's why I didn't do so well at first either.

Thank you so much, its a relief...

Contrats for your A in o chem!! The important thing is you lived life and still managed to make it to vet school!! 🙂

Hopefully ill manage to make it to septiembre class:/

Not on the island, it's not. St. Kitts is very hilly/mountainous and the road are narrow, full of potholes and the some of the drivers here are absolutely insane and have no regard for other people's safety.

There are taxis, but you have to wait awhile to be picked up and often there's a bit of a walk involved. It's also $20 EC (~$7 US) to go anywhere, which adds up quickly. Honestly, you need a car or at the very least need a roommate with a car.

Also, as far as schedules being the same, hopefully that will remain the case. However, many people do repeat semesters and in that case you wouldn't share the same schedule throughout your time at Ross.

Anyone know about the bus system over there? Hopefully I'll have a roommate with a car for groceries and the like. I'll just chip in for gas.

BTW.. I finally got my welcome packet.

I called admissions today because I STILL hadn't heard anything. Turns out they were waiting for my final transcript for this semester. It is on its way so I hope to hear something about an interview soon.

All this waiting again is giving me an ulcer!

For those that have been accepted already, do you know where friends/family who are coming for orientation stay? Do most friends/family stay at the Marriott or at another hotel? My mom's cousin is coming with my mom and me to orientation and she was just wondering where to stay.

I think my family is planning on staying there, but my mom has marriott rewards. I am not sure what other places there are on the island to tell you the truth.

Dr. Bolaski (My interviewer) called me yesterday to let me know I was accepted!!!! 🙂

Congrats to all who got accepted!!! Looking foward to meet you all in September!

Hey Everyone, congrats on getting into Ross! I am in the process of applying to for the January Semester, however I am stuck on the essay portion.. Anything I come up with sounds so standard and boring. What did you guys write about?

For my essay, I took my VMCAS Personal Statement and stripped it down to the bare bones (since the Ross one is only like 300 words or something really short like that). I talked about my vet experiences, my school and educational experiences, and also my study abroad that I did in college. basically everything that I believed would make me an excellent candidate for Ross.

yup, thats exactly what I did too

A lot of Ross students whose families can't afford the Marriott stay at the Timothy Beach Resort, and I've heard nothing but good things from all of them. It's also located in Frigate Bay, not far from the Marriott.

I finally got my interview notice!!! I'm waiting on a phone call to schedule it.

Is any one else really worried about the debt you will have after finishing Ross and paying off student loans for like 40 years?

Naw, any where you go you will have loans. I don't think Ross is really all that more expensive than others place if you go out of state. I am glad I have no debt from undergrad(thanks mom!!), so all my debt will come from going to Ross. My vet assured me that I wouldn't have trouble paying them off. The best part is that I have a job waiting for me when I get done, so that is a little bit of a relief.

O, and congrats on the interview!!

yeah the $230k vs $200k estimates i got from Ross/SGU were definitely a factor in my decision, but every time i do the math out, out of state is the same or more so obviously it can be done and paid off (but it does scare me!!)

Any of y'all(sry I am from the south) gotten information regarding housing applications? Just getting antsy!

I sent an e-mail today... They said next week is when they are going to start to make the arrangements. A couple of days after getting your acceptance letter an email should be sent with the housing email. 🙂

Finally!! Congrats!!!

My interview was really nice, my interviewer was great, really down to earth and relatable were is your interview!?

About the debt, I know it's a lot of money, but I feel like in the end is going to be worth it!!!

Best of luck!!!

Okay cool. I got my letter awhile ago and it said it would be sometime in May to hear about housing once they got the May class all settled in. Well its the 21st now, so I am getting antsy! 😛

yeah me 2!!! I can't wait to know were I'm going to stay... I want a 2 or 3 bedroom... So at least I know people.. a single would be kind of lonely :/

Hey guys! I'm starting in September also. Anyone from the Boston area going? It would be fun to fly down together! Sooo excited!! 🙂

Wow, they do seem nice.
I am still waiting to hear back from Ross, I had my interview on April 11, so I am hoping to hear something soon.
Anyone else waiting?

That is odd, are you still taking a course or something? My interview was April 28th and my interviewer called Thursday :/ Best of luck!

BTW, is there anyone from PR? I doubt it but it would be nice to know someone before I leave!!

I asked my interviewer and an alumni and they both said that neither motorcycle or bicycle are good ideas because it's pretty dangerous and its mountainous...

🙁 I would have also preferred to ride a bicycle!

It came!! Wahoo! Okay so I filling out the forum and all along I have thought I wanted to live with someone else, but filling out the forum makes me think maybe I want to live alone. I really prefer living alone, but living with someone will allow you to know someone right away, but what if you don't get along...ahh

I think I am gonna go with living with someone, then alone, then with 2 other people. Its a bit cheaper to live with someone than by yourself, so that needs be considered. Also at least you have your own room its not too people in one room like in a dorm, so that a plus.🙂

I aplied for september 2011. I had my interview in April 8th and I still haven't heard from them 🙁

Yeah, I'm debating about that too. I mean, it's cheaper to live with other people, but at the same time, if you don't get along, it could make your first semester go badly. And I don't want to get started off on the wrong foot. I used to live alone in an apartment after I graduated from college and it wasn't as lonely as I thought it would be, especially since I was spending most of my time at work anyway. But the money thing is a huge factor too.

i am jealous of the Ross housing, I don't like SGU's first term arrangement nearly as much. we get 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom and a kitchenette for 2 people. lucky for me, my current roommate is also attending so we don't have to gamble with getting someone we might not like sharing a room with. it will definitely be a challenge to go from having our own rooms to sharing though!

Question: I was looking at the Laptop Buying Guide on the Ross website, and it says they recommend getting a UPS universal power source for when the power goes out. Most of the ones I've found online are like $150 and up, and are at least 20 pounds (which might be difficult to pack with luggage). Does anyone know if these are really necessary? Or can it wait until after the 1st semester to be brought to St Kitts?
