Have any of you hear about someone not getting accepted to Ross?

My interviewer told me that some %, but yes people that get offered interviews do get rejected. Actually a much higher rate than I thought.

Does anyone know if we should bring like 5 sets of scrubs... or more.. or we wear casual wear to classes... :/ should we also bring our white coat?

They said that the white coats will be provided when we get down there. I'm thinking of bringing maybe 2 or 3 pairs of scrubs...I'm betting we'll need some for anatomy.

Now I am having a fun time guessing who people are on facebook and their user names here. I think mine is pretty obvious as my user name is my initals.😛

Bahaha! ME TOO. Mine's not so obvious, since my username is a reference to my fav musical, Wicked! But I guess I gave myself away by asking the same question here as I did on the fb page 👍

I got the call today 😉 I was accepted for the vet prep program in january 2012 and waitlisted for september 2011. Whats the name of the facebook group?

Congrats! I am in the Vetprep for Sep 11, so we will be classmates if you get off the waitlist. I never did for may which at the time was fine since I wouldn't of really had enough time to get everything ready to go.

Thankyou!! I was really hoping to get in on September, I graduated from college in January and I've been working on a vet clinic but i get bored in my house sometimes, I guess waiting a little longer will be worth it 😀

Hi Colegio I am in the process of applying for january 2012. Just wondering what your stats are like if you dont mind me asking, you can pm me if you want. I am hoping I get into vet prep also.
Thanks!!

I got in for September!! It has been a long process and I am so happy
it is finally over.
I can't wait to start Vet school.

Congrats!!

Thank you, yea, I was thinking the same thing... however they said they should be non green.

Congrats colegio!

Finally got my interview scheduled... this coming Thursday at 10am in Columbus! I'm stoked!!!

Congrats!! Columbus was where I had mine, so you'll probably have Erica Wasserman, no? If so, she's super nice and easy to talk to. I'm sure you'll do great!

Had my interview this morning. I think it went well. Erica said it could take up to 7 weeks to hear back, so it looks like I'll spend most of my summer in limbo!

I received the call more than a week ago, but I still haven't received any informtion about how to pay the seat deposit. I'm afraid that if I don't pay the deposit this week I won't be able to atend Ross in january 2012. How long after the call you paid the deposit?

You should get a packet in the mail that states how to pay the seat deposit.
I got mine a little over a week after I got my acceptance.
Other packets came first like the one that had all of the health certificate info.

I got in for September!!! It still feels so surreal omg. Can't wait to meet everyone in the fall!! 😀😀😀😀

Umm, stupid question, I am planning on applying to Ross this cycle but I am slightly confused. On their website they have a like to apply, does this mean you don't apply to Ross through VMCAS or is this simply their supplemental?

Not stupid! 🙂 Ross only has one application, which is the link on their website. There are no supplementals...just a $75 application fee. They don't work with VMCAS.

Oh super! Thanks for the answer!

Okay, so I have another question for you guys. In the area where it wants you to list extra-curricular activities and such, did you actually list as in bullet points or did you write a paragraph?

when i filled out the app this spring, i was given two lines to list extracurriculars. kind of a pain. theyve sinch stopped using that application server so perhaps theyve updated it? sorry! hope you get more room than 2 lines! (same went for vet experience!)

out of curiosity, do ya'll have to get rabies vaccinated before school?

Interesting, yeah now it just a big paragraph box. I ended up making bullet points, always can change it though.

Not necessarily. If we can it'd be good, but the nurses at Ross can order the vaccine for you if you can't get vaccinated before going to St. Kitts. Is that how it is for SGU too?

It's been more than 2 weeks since they called me to say I had been acepted to the vet prep program, but I still havn't received any papers on the mail or email. I'm worry about the deposit becouse I still don't know how to pay it and I don't want to loose my seat!

You're accepted into the vet prep program for Jan 2012 right? Were you assigned a new student coordinator? If anything, I would recommend calling and asking. They usually send a packet and an email w/ a link to place your deposit. They will also e-mail you and let you know that you have to send a copy of your itinerary before a certain deadline or else you risk losing your seat too. 😉 Just FYI

I had a feeling it was you! It's your coworker/potential roommate!! :hello: ...I'll get onto facebook soon....

Hey I never got an e-mail with a link just so you know. I just got my letter in the mail. I think it took a couple weeks. Maybe e-mail them if you don't get anything this week. It told me how to pay etc...

Not sure why but my student coordinator to this day has never e-mailed me although an admissions person told me who it is. Unless its just got kicked to spam and auto deleted which is always a possibility.

we're supposed to have it before we come (along with all the other required childhood vaccines). i was just curious since st. kitts is a rabies free island-grenada is not-if you had to have it for school before your clinical year.

Oops, I didnt realize how I worded the sentence. I meant that we have to pay our deposit online; they'll provide you with a link to pay in your info packet. My interviewer also sent me a link when she notified me of my acceptance. Sorry for the confusion! =)

My NSC had also e-mailed me within the week of my acceptance to introduce himself. Maybe it varies on each student when receiving the welcome packet and having the NSC introducing themselves? (depending on when they got accepted?) Idk..Either way, congrats to all and excited to meet you guys!

I' think Ross prefers that we receive the Rabies vaccine before arriving into St. Kitts, but they are aware of certain areas having a shortage of places administering the vaccine - if that is the case, we would have to contact the nurses at Ross to place us on a waitlist to have the Rabies vaccine done on the island. I'm assuming we would have to have it done by our first year?

for any lurkers perusing the Ross thread, I just got an email from admissions stating that they have officially filled the September 2011 class and are moving all applications into the January 2012 pile now (some how my application wasnt officially withdrawn until now, oops!)

Well, I got into Jan 2012, but think I'm going to defer until May. Just to get one more application cycle in stateside. This debt to income ratio really has me on edge.

I have been lurking on this thread for quite some time now but have never posted. Just wanted to say congrats to all of the incoming class and this thread has been quite a bit of an inspiration to me! I completed my undergraduate degree at CSU, Long Beach in Dec 2010 and have been haunted by vet school apps all this time. I was definitely planning to apply to my IS school as well as several OOS schools but I've been so discouraged from reading rejection threads. These people getting rejected have higher GPAs than I do... and mine isn't even that bad! Anyway there were always Ross Uni flyers all over our biology department (they market that school very well on our campus) and I've finally given it consideration. It wasn't until I read this thread that my perspective on this school totally changed. I don't know if I should bother with my IS school app anymore just to get a rejection letter (i am a bit of a pessimist), and Ross doesn't seem like a plan B, but rather a second plan A. Anyway I am going on a bit of a rant/short novel here so I just wanted to say congrats again and I hope I will be joining you guys at Ross sometime soon.

to jamr0ckin: how hard is it to defer your start date once you've already been accepted into a particular class? just curious

I originally applied for the Sept. '10 class but asked during my interview if I could push that back to Jan. '11. There was no problem at all. Granted, I hadn't already been accepted so the situation is slightly different, but I doubt it would be terribly difficult.

I interviewed 2+ weeks ago, originally for fall entrance but now for January. Now that starting in the fall isn't an option, I'm nearly positive that, if I get in for January, I'm also going to defer til May so that I can get a 3rd application cycle in. With the fact that it takes people an average of 3 application cycles to get in, I feel like I'd be missing out on a potential opportunity if I didn't apply a 3rd time.

I have applied to vet school the past few years and either am rejected or get alternate; I have actually been alternate at one school three years in a row. I finally applied to Ross, and was accepted for Jan 2012. I am now beginning to freak out and am considering not going because I am completely overwhelmed when I think about what I would have to give up in order to go there. I have many animals (dogs, cats, horses) and I also ride horses competitively. I lease a farm and do all the work myself and I love it, I can not even imagine everything that is part of my everyday routine no longer being available to me. I have started the process in order to bring my cat with me, but would be unable to bring two of my dogs due to their special needs and the breed restrictions. (Not to mention it is very expensive, but would be worth it in my opinion) One dog is a staffordshire bull terrier, they say no american bulldogs or staffordshire terriers, so I thought that would also include his breed, does anyone know for sure? I am a vet tech and when I'm not at work I am with my animals.I love my life now, except for the fact that I havent been accepted at a state school. If I do not go to Ross I could use my masters to get a decent job but I would probably rather do tech work and be in a clinic, I just dont want to potentially regret my decision down the road. I was wondering if there is anyone out there that has had to give up A LOT (it seriously feels like it is the end of the world) and how they coped with it. Are you happy with your decision that you made? If I do not take my animals then my parents will have to look after them and they have enough on their plate (my mom was just seriously injured and will not regain full use of her arm). Another question is if anyone has ever shipped a horse over there? I know it is possible because I contacted the shipper that brings horses to Ross, and also any info about boarding facilities would be great, I haven't found anything other than a TB racing barn. I would only potentially bring one horse. I am just confused and having a hard time dealing with all of this; I never thought that I would feel this way when I finally got accepted. I guess in the back of my mind I thought I would eventually get into my IS and be able to continue life as usual. Finally, has anyone ever transfered from Ross to another school, I have researched all the schools that allow it, but I know it is very competitive. Any advice, suggestions, personal experience from any student Ross or not would be greatly appreciated. I am still hoping I get called off one of these alt. lists, but I know it is a real long shot. Also I am new to SDN so I apologize in advance if this is not on the correct thread.

I really hate to be discouraging, but since you feel like it's the end of the world to go away and give up so much...don't do it! It's not worth giving up everything you love. Plus, you probably will feel even more that way once you get down to the island, and many Ross students have dropped out exactly for these types of reasons. In fact, they have a very high drop-out rate as compared to other vet schools. I know people who go there who say that the drop-out rate is down-played and manipulated by the admissions people. There is plenty of space for a large entering class (120 students or so) but not nearly as much space/facilities for those in the upper semesters there. They assume a large number of students either dropping out, transfering or failing. I would suggest talking to current (not ones who haven't gotten there yet) Ross students to get their true perspectives on the place. But you do sound like someone who would be really homesick and lost down there. I'm sorry to be so blunt, and I don't want to hurt you or anyone else. I think you should take more courses (upper level), do better, get more animal and vet experience and keep on trying for your IS school. You will get there if you don't give up!

I agree with Bisbee, except for the part about the university taking on more students than they know they can accommodate. That's a fairly insidious myth that I'm rather sick of seeing. Yes, there's a high drop out rate. For instance, we lost over 20 of our incoming class after the 1st semester. Island life is very, very different than life in the U.S. That is not to say that it is bad, but it is certainly less convenient in a number of ways. Even the most optimistic, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed students get down here and find that they hate it, are homesick, weren't prepared for the stress of vet school so far away from their friends/family, etc. Reading through your post, I don't think you'd stay at Ross very long and would advise you not to waste your money.

I guess in the back of my mind I thought I would eventually get into my IS and be able to continue life as usual.

This is something you need to get out of your head right now. You will not be able to do many of the things you listed once you are in any vet school, including in state schools. Vet school is very demanding and takes up a lot of your time. Trying to juggle a tech job, running a farm, exercising your horses, etc. and your course load is a recipe for failing out.

I got accepted for this fall semester... so I'm not there yet. However there is a Facebook group for current students and accepted students, maybe there you will find more/better info.

In the group I've read of ppl who left kids and spouses behind. Remember that its not a lot of time in the island. It's just 2.3 yrs... if you pass every trimester, it is a big sacrifice to go to vet school in general. What I normally do when I'm facing a tough decision I make a list of pros and cons ... maybe this will help you!!

Wish you the best either decision you make!!

I was just recently looking into applying for Ross. Does anyone know if Canadian residents require the MCAT or the GRE? Or both? The website seems to say they require the MCAT, but I'm not sure.

So I got an email today from Bill Bingham saying "Congratulations, Welcome to the January 2012 vet class Here's a checklist of things to do next...." (as an aside: yayyy!!!) However, I haven't gotten a call from my interviewer or anything in the mail. Should I be worried for any reason or is my interviewer just behind schedule or is the USPS being slow? Anyone else accepted for January 2012 experience anything similar?

Congratulations!! I just got accpeted to the January 2012 vet class too! I got an email followed by a letter in the mail, but I never recieved a call from my intervier. The USPS was very slow or at least for me and I did not recieve the letter until alomst 2 weeks after the email.

Congrats you two!! I will be in the Jan 2012 vet class as well!! Well as long as I pass vet prep which I am planning to do!! 😀

After a long conversation with the boy and the parents, I decided to accept my spot at Ross and not apply for a 3rd time to US schools. Sent in my seat deposit this morning -- taking the first step felt awesome. Ross January 2012 here I come!
