This is kind of dumb, but if you put down running as an extracurricular, should you list the different races you've competed in if they are like 5ks 10ks and marathons? I don't want to look like I'm trying to be like "Oh yeah, look at me, I ran in 85858932 races."

I'd suggest stating, "I enjoy running because ---list reasons. To date I have completed a number of races including: --- list 3 or 4. I am training for (or planning to participate in) the ____ in [month/year] in [location, if not obvious from the name of the event].

I kind of did the same. I listed when I started actually running (as in training and running races) and that i've done x# of 5/10ks and was in the midst of training for xMarathon.

Kept it short and sweet. I did talk about it in my statement though about it being a huge part of my life outside school/work.

lol I was similarly going to put "I like to work out, but for fun, not competitive". I think I'll still put that.

Maybe word it a little better..

"..keeping physcially fit is an important part of my life as well as a good outlet to relieve stress..."

Or something along those lines. Sounds more professional than "i like to work out for fun"

I included it in a list of hobbies/avocations. I did not list races I've run, but I did state the # of marathons I've run and mentioned qualifying for the Boston Marathon (cos some ppl have heard of it). I was asked about marathoning in a couple of interviews (which reminds me, I should post on the Worst Interview Answers thread...)

There is nothing wrong with fun. Some adcoms are interested in what you do for fun; some will ask about it as an interview question.
