Hello Everyone!
I'm trying to compare UCONN to RWJMS in regards to the quality of education, student life and opportunities for research (im interested in MD/PHD). Can any current students or applicants comment on this comparison? I would really really appreciate it!!

sounds like you haven't applied yet. apply to both (plus many others) and hopefully you then have a choice between multiple acceptances. til then, the goal is to get into at least one school

I have applied and I was accepted to UMDNJ-SOM and RWJMS so far. I am waiting to hear from UCONN next Tuesday :xf: . I am a CT resident (went to school at Rutgers) and I think my interview at UCONN went well so I am anticipating an acceptance from UCONN also. I have to respond to RWJMS by March 5th so I am trying to decide which one would be best for me now.

For researchers, publications are the key to future career opportunities. You should take special care in picking the school that will give you the best opportunity to publish well. I'd suggest picking a school with multiple well-funded labs performing research of high interest to you.

Do you have a specific area of research interest? If you haven't yet done so, look up faculty performing research in that field at each school. It may be the case that one school is particularly strong in your area of interest. If you don't have a specific area of interest, maybe you at least know whether you are more interested in basic or clinical research. In that case, you can compare the relative sizes of the respective departments at each school or use this site as a tool to get an idea of the level of funding (NIH only) of the various departments at your schools of interest.

Thank You! That is a GREAT website! I am interested in psychiatry and epigenetic research and it looks like UCONN has about $700,000 more funds for both areas than RWJMS.
I was also informed that RWJMS pays for all MD and PHD years, while UCONN will only pay for 5 out of the possible 7 years (for students who were not directly put in the program before matriculating). I have 2 publications and originally applied straight for the MD/PHD program last year, but I didn't get in. This year I applied with the intentions of matriculating as an MD student and then transfer into the program.
