Got accepted off the waitlist at Rochester today and currently holding a spot at UConn. Rochester will actually be a little bit cheaper (better aid), and I loved their program when I visited.

UConn, however, is much closer to family and my significant other (45 min drive vs 6 hour drive to UR). Was hoping to get some insight from anyone familiar with these programs or who has faced a similar decision.

URochester is amazing and might have a stronger national reputation overall, but UConn arguably could have an even better match list than Rochester. SO 45 min away, support network nearby, quite a wonderful match list across the board (Derm at UCSF?! BID for IM, Brown for Med-peds, Yale and CHOP for peds?!) sign me up! Normally you shouldn't look at the match to compare and contrast schools, but in this case you can see that UConn will not limit your absolute potential for the match.

I think you will do exceptionally well at UConn, not just because the training clearly gets you where you want to be, but also because you will be happier overall (assuming the medical school itself makes you happy as well). Why put unnecessary strain on your relationship for 4 years? If you were dumping UConn for an Ivy or equivalent.. that would be a different conundrum. Go to UConn.

i'd take UConn here. Having a SO close by is a big deal and very underrated in these decisions. The difference in perceived school prestige is much smaller than being able to see them often. Same goes for family.

Thank you for the response! I did take a look at both match lists and they are both strong.

One of the unknowns about UConn is that they are rolling out a new 18 month pre clinical curriculum, so my class would be the Guinea pigs. I'm not sure how much this matters in a larger context or if it's a reason to have reservations.
