School Checklist Input?

I'm confused... Are you applying for the 2013 cycle?

Aren't traditional students rising seniors, not rising juniors?

Hi all,

I am new to SDN and would appreciate any feedback that you may have. I am currently studying for the DAT and plan to take it in early fall (I will be a junior this coming fall). I know that GPA and DAT obviously factor into which schools I should apply to, but I was wondering if these schools looked good from a purely OOS friendly standpoint, under the assumption that my scores would be considered "competitive". I haven't calculated my GPA, but it probably is 3.5 total/3.3 science. I know this is on the lower side, but I do attend a very rigorous and well-known liberal arts college (I don't want to come off conceited, I just didn't know how else to phrase).

Here is the list of schools...
Tufts
Temple
UConn
Howard
BU
UPitt
NYU
Case Western
Louisville
Creighton
ASDOH

Other potential factors
- I live in the east coast, but don't have any state-associated public dental school
- I am Asian-American

Thank you

Until you have a valid DAT score it's hard to guesstimate.

Also this.

However, based on just GPA, remove CaseWestern + UConn.

Unless you have a tremendous amount of volunteering (1,000 +), remove ASDOH.

No, I will be applying for the 2014 cycle. Therefore, I will apply June 4th, 2013 (at the end of my junior year). You're making me second guess myself now. I have my dates correct, yes?

Beginning of June, not necessarily the 4th. For example, it was June 1st last year.

You do have your dates correct, however, I just think you might be ahead of yourself. Make sure you are prepared to take the DAT. You can take it up until June of 2014 and still have it be in the first batch. (Takes 3 weeks to process your DAT scores, takes 3 weeks for AADSAS to verify your application. They will coincide perfectly).

Generally, student's don't take the test until mid Jr Year (December 2012 - April 2013 in your case)

If you are prepared though, sooner is good to get it out of the way.

You need to focus on your DAT let all the 2013ers freak out about our school list. You have a year of course work and DAT to ace before you put together a school list

Good luck on the DAT

I completely understand your point. I mentioned, however, that my question was based on the assumption of a competitive DAT score. For simplicity, what OOS friendly schools would be a good choice to apply to if i had 21s straight across the board?

ADEA Guide would be your best bet

Off the top of my head... Pittsburgh, Buffalo, UMDNJ, and almost all private schools.

why make assumptions... you just make an a.... out of yourself lol just wait for the real score no need for guessing games.

Try to get you science GPA to a 3.5 . I think it makes you look a lot more competitive on paper. For the DAT I would personally recommended not doing 3 months of studying. I feel like 4-6 solid weeks is ideal any longer you will start to forget stuff you learned.

I think most people would agree kaplan is over priced read up on SDN about good study material and make your own study plan. Save the kaplan money for AADSAS fees.

@Panther5,

DAT studying can be completed within 6-8 weeks with the right foundation. Please let me know if you have any questions about your Kaplan course or study schedules etc.

Happy studies!

Patrick
