I’ve decided to play, I just may have a lot of catch up reading to do when I have my tests. But other then that it sounds like I won’t have a lot of schoolwork, so I’ll need something to occupy my time

Posting this here so I’m not clogging up main thread. If anyone wants a milkshake added to their profile pic let me know the flavor of the milkshake and what photo you want used

I’m kicking myself for not keeping track of lynches. I usually do so in a very detailed spreadsheet but I have not had the time since I’ve been at my internship.
Kind of weird question but when you mention internship you mean... undergrad internship? Sorry I keep getting it confused, vet internships are a very unique thing right before residency. I don't mean to be rude, hope you're having a good time!

Yes... I think? It’s not like a legit internship program. I’m working with wildlife and learning to bottle feed babies and eventually rehab them. It’s super exciting but I’m not actually working with a vet. However, I hope to be meeting the vet that cares for their wildlife soon because he seems like a really interesting guy!!

Oh thank you for the clarification!

Just for your information, vet internships are typically after graduating vet school. They're typically in pursuit of a residency or other high education.

I hope you really enjoy your learning with wildlife. I've heard that can be extremely rewarding.

Of course! I’ve been calling it an internship because that’s what the farm that’s running it is calling it! I’m excited because once the director goes back to work I’ll be paid for all the hours I’m putting in. I am really enjoying wildlife! It’s something I’ve never experienced before and I hope it helps diversify my application this time around. Not sure if I want to be a full wildlife vet as it’s a rather impersonal field. I wouldn’t be opposed to continuing in rehab but I really like the connection vets can have with people and their animals and it’s what I love about the field. Wildlife vet med I don’t think sees a whole lot of that.

Ah yeah that makes sense. Good luck!

Yeah I definitely did a couple things in undergrad that were termed internships too, even working with vets. Such confusion. Actually at the zoo I most recently did an externship at, they have an undergrad Animal Health Internship in the hospital as well as an actual veterinary internship...

Also nobody outside of medical fields ever knows what externships are

Yeah I think most places call any sort of intensive thing geared towards undergrads or high schoolers an internship. It’s just the norm for things there. Like you get a summer internship at a business if you’re getting a business degree.

This. It’s always internships until you go to vet school and you’re like noooooo, not what I’m thinking!!

Yeah what’s an externship? I’m a lil pre vet still lol
Those are the clinical rotations you do at other places than your own school. Like if you went to a different school to do an imaging rotation because yours doesn’t offer that, that would be an externship. Or if you went to some private practice (general practice or a specialty practice) and did a rotation there. Or a zoo and did a couple weeks there for a rotation.
It’s basically an internship(in the same sense of the word as your current summer internship is) because you are doing a short term “job” at a different place that’s meant for a learning experience.
Professional internships in the vet field would be *after* you’ve already graduated vet school and are a full on vet. You get a ton of experience in a short amount of time (1 full year) and rotate between services (for small animal rotating internships, which generally you do first if you’re specializing). You don’t have to be trying to specialize to do an internship after graduating though. Some people just like the supervised experience because you see a t o n of things in a short period of time. There’s also specialty internships that people can do after a rotating internship if they’re specializing and don’t get a residency straight after their rotating internship. Like derm (just one example) you could do a specialty internship after your rotating internship and you’re on that service all the time for that year. And then after your specialty internship you’d try again for a residency which is 3 more years of intensive training to become a boarded specialist in that field.

Anyone else feel free to add anything or correct things.
