So I was wondering how common it is for and EM doctor to have a second job. I know that a lot of it depends on where you work because different places have different schedules, but it seems that a lot of EM doctors work only a few shifts a week. Is it more common for interns/residents to have a second job? Just wondering. Thanks!

My memory is a little foggy, but I think Quinn has an interesting "job" outside of EM....

It's pretty common for EPs to have second jobs. Usually it's at a different hospital with a different population than their main job. For example lots of the the guys in my group (including me) also work at a little rural hospital up in the middle of nowhere. It's a change from the inner city population. Other guys I know have second jobs in other cities so they can travel.

What about people who have done EM fellowships, such as Sports Medicine, Toxicology, Undersea/Hyperbarics, etc.? Does anyone know of anyone that has done this, and if so, what jobs do they work and how much?

Are they hyperbaric fellows hard to get into? I live in a rural area and hyperbaric treatment has b/c quite big here. We have two hospitals and they both have put in hyperbaric chambers.

What exactly is hyperbaric medicine?

in the past it was used to treat divers that had the bends but now has been implemented to treat non healing wounds and many other disorders. With the population getting older this will probably rise in demand. Older people get wounds from being bed ridden, diabetes, etc......

I don't really know but it involves alot of pressure.

My second job (or expensive hobby according to my wife) is as an immunology researcher.
