I have started a new research project that is currently in the data-gathering phase. It's a great project, and really displays my interests in the field (it's more of a process improvement project rather than a specialty-specific project). I've talked about it extensively on pretty much all of my interviews, however it never made it into my application because I started it after. Should I send a formal update to the programs to discuss this project? It would probably only be about half a page and I don't think I have other updates to add. If so, when is the optimal time to send it--as soon as possible, or perhaps some time in early January?

Many thanks.

No. Nobody cares. Unless you had a publication from it (and even then it's debatable) I wouldn't bother sending updates about that in particular to programs. Especially since you say you've already discussed it during your interviews.

On the topic of publications, I had a pub listed on my app as "submitted" but it was recently published. Do I update them with that ****?
