Hello fellow stressed out pre-meds,

I have been pulling hairs ever since I received an email from the physician I have been working with that he finally finished my LoR, and he insisted that he made it a strong letter.

I really want to submit it to the schools I've already sent and got "completion updates" from but I am worried that it will also adversely affect my application (ie: sending a letter over their "requested number of letters" or it resetting the order in which they will review my secondary)

Right now, I am considering these two options and would love peoples input.

  1. Literally email all the admissions offices of schools I have submitted and been marked "complete" for and ask if sending an extra letter will have a negative impact, OR if it will reset the order in which my application is reviewed.
  2. Only submit the LoR to the remaining schools I have left.

How many of those schools require a physician letter?

Just assign it to the schools you want from your AMCAS portal and don’t worry too much about the process at each school.
It will be added to your file and won’t set anything back

At least 10 of them require/recommend physician letters but I already have one from a physician that they wrote back in 2023. This new LoR is different from my other one because my physician told me he expounded on how I did extra work helping run learning groups and how we served under-resourced patient populations.

With the older LoR, my physician told me he focused on my personality and how I will be a good fit for incoming classes

I think they're both strong but after reading a bunch of these secondary prompts, I feel like the new one speaks to their missions and such

I appreciate the response! Would you still recommend this course of action if some of these schools confirmed completion of my application within the two-week recommendation deadline? I ask this because it seems its universal that getting it in earlier in the context of those two weeks is extremely important, and I worked very hard to do so.

Thank you so much!

Yes go ahead. That 2 week goal was for your essays

Send it. If your application hasn't already been read and scored, the letter will be there in the electronic file and will be read when the application is read. It is so easy these days as the upload is automatic vs the old days when the physical letter had to be opened, date stamped and routed to the clerk in the file room to be inserted into your cardboard folder. In those days, the reader would see it only if the file had not yet been assigned and handed to them. Now, if the reader is sitting there with the file in their queue, the letter will magically appear and be there for the reader.
