Shadowing a family member/father?

I was just curious if shadowing a family member, same last name, would hinder an application or prevent me from being taken seriously. Obviously I haven't just shadowed him but I did get a significant amount of hours from him.

I wouldn't worry about it. I think a LOR would raise some questions though...

Shadow whoever you want. You can't get a LOR from family but anyone else is fair game. You wouldn't be the first who shadowed a family member in the industry.

Not an issue whatsoever. The issue arises if you try and have your family member write you a LOR. Big no no.
 
Shouldn't be a problem shadowing him but you should fulfill the school's shadowing requirements from other dentists. I'm sure your dad can introduce you to other dentists you can shadow.
