hey, i tried contacting a podiatrist in my area to see if he would allow me to shadow him. I first tried emailing his office with no reply. I then tried the email address from the mentor page on the APMA website again with no answer. It's been about a week since I did the second email and about 3 weeks since the first. Should I maybe take a hint that he doesn't want to allow shadowing? would it be too much to call his office and ask to talk to him because he is on the mentor list so i'm guessing that he would allow shadowing

Thanks

get an address. put on your fancy driving shoes and ask in person.

Use the phone!

haha yes, emailing is usually the worst way to get a hold of a podiatrist. calling or personally talking to the medical assistant to relay a message is most likely the best way to do it 👍

Also, you are limited to the podiatrists on the mentor page, I believe. The podiatrist I will be shadowing was not on the list for my state (Delaware). Part of the reason I chose that podiatrist was that he was on-campus and not having a car on campus made it quite difficult to shadow the pods. listed on the mentor page.

So, call the office, and if that doesn't work....just pick another pod; there are plenty to choose from!😀

I heard you can talk to podiatrists using telecanesis. But don't quote me on that.

No but really, put on a tie or nice polo and go see him/her in person. Worst thing the office staff will take your name and number. But be nice to them cause they are your way in. It worked for me. Tell the gatekeepers how nice they look then you'll be a shoe-in.

The best way to contact a podiatrist is to stand outside of the podiatrist's office and click your heels three times

If you cannot find a DPM on the DPM Mentor list or if you need assistance, you can always contact the APMA. Just send an email to [email protected] and we'll try to help you out as quickly as possible.

I contacted the APMA myself and they were of immense help and through them I got to shadow a doctor extensively.

Sometimes the doctors may be preoccupied, may not be interested or may not have had your messages relayed to them through their office staff. If it gets to that, do not hesitate to contact the APMA.

There are so many wonderful DPM's out there who will be glad to allow you shadow. Do not be discouraged 🙂.

here's what i did. google "podiatrist (your city)" and just start calling around. i contacted at least 15 offices before i found a pod willing to let me shadow them. worst thing that can happen is that they say no.

btw, i actually just got home from my first day of shadowing at the pod. it was pretty sweet and well worth the trouble.

How soon do you start shadowing?
