I do standard allocation (401k, etc) no matter what. I'll do larger buys (5k yesterday) on large red days.
That strategy is still inferior to buying when you can without regards to what happen to the market. But, it does feel good buying on a 3% "dip", never mind the 10%+ run up on that money. I don't make that mistake again.

I’m new to stocks. Just started a couple months ago. I bought 50 shares of Twitter for $37. Now it’s over $52. I want to stay cause I’m hopeful that it’ll keep going up but is that a newb move?
Down 16% this morning....

Ouch

You can't lose what you don't wager~

Or have~

Your average is so low, what are you worried about with 5 shares LoL? My average is $25 and I'm still planning to buy big (for me). JP Morgan upgraded price target to $40.

I think NIO moved too fast imo. The analyst upgrade is encouraging but I wouldn't rely on it too much. I'm happy if NIO can get to 1000$ 🙂

Do they even make their own cars? Or are they still paying someone to do their manufacturing?

No, the state owned JAC motors makes the cars. They are backed by the government. China wants NIO to succeed.

BABA $285c 4/16/2021 x1

Might get some NIO on tHe DiP

At this point just going to hold 1-2 days max

1 BABA@285. Get it while it's cheap!

NIO earnings Nov 17 after hours so I'll prob sell both calls by then.

WMT $140c 3/19/21 x4 ($10.78/ea). Earnings pre-market so I definitely selling before then

Higher delta, more time to be "correct"/recover in case of downturn (like FB being at ATH in September and now back up to $295)

Jumping in on this thread - I'm brand new to buying individual stocks so I appreciate being able to read all of your guys wisdom and experience.

I picked up NIO at 31, and bought 997 TCDA at 5.01 after reading their clinical trials with the big drop. I grabbed a little bit of LI today on the dip and will see how the China EV market goes.

I gambled a little on FSR as I love Fisker but so far it's been a fools errand.

Welcome! Congrats on your purchases!

I've thought about LI and XPEV too but one Chinese EV is enough for me. Just know that they may due for a hard correction since they are so new. NIO is a few years ahead of them and already went through the life support stage when it bottomed at $1-2. LI and XPEV haven't gotten to that stage yet. They have much lower sales than NIO yet rose just as quickly, it doesn't really make sense.

The Chinese EVs are mainstream now so I've been trying to find the next NIO. My picks are PLTR and NNDM. They both skyrocketed like crazy these past two days.

Thanks Mentos, I appreciate the advice! I may dump Li next week (hoping it won't tank before then) as I agree the EV's right now seem to be overvalued. I won't lie, I definitely fell victim to FOMO

I added PLTR and NNDM to my watchlist - they've had a solid couple of days! I wish I had found this thread weeks ago, I would have jumped on the Nio train earlier =)

There are literally over 400+ EV companies in China. All want those investor IPO money, they become billionaire as soon as they IPO. Who the hell knows who will win. Everyone is copying each other. Good luck bois.

I will live vicariously through you.

That's what I like about PLTR and NNDM. They don't really have any competition.

Any thoughts on CBAT? They've already had their rocketship moment but there are "rumors" they're gonna be a major player in the battery market. Their financials are questionable (like all Chinese companies) but they're about to release another earnings report. I'm not sure if this is all just PR from a shady company or if they actually have a future.

Buy more NIO or wait for the dip?

You already missed the dip at 41. JP Morgan and Citi just upgraded price targets to $46. If you're long then buy and hold forever.

Opinions on when I should jump in on PLTR and NNDM? Are they following a NIO trajectory and jumping in any time is good or should I wait for a dip?

Debating whether to sell my 1 share of AMZN and put it into NIO instead...

IMO yes. They are both cheap. NNDM dip is like 30 cents. PLTR dip might be $1 or so. If you're long then it won't matter much.

Seriously considering beyond meat tomorrow

I'm going to pick up a few shares on this dip, they just announced a McDonald's partnership and should be able to bounce right back up (wrong). I have a freezer full of their stuff so I may as well own their shares.

If you haven't tried their burgers that you grill yourself I strongly recommend them. I'll never go back to real meat burgers.

Nevermind, I was only half wrong. Per CNBC the McPlant is a cooperative effort between beyond meat and McDonalds (I swore I had read it was a beyond meat product, turns out its a hybrid)

While I am surprised by how good they are they don’t compare to the real deal. For me it’s a novelty product, not something I would ever consider eating regularly.

Tattooed chef is similar to Beyond Meat if you're interested.

Just to add to this. I sold my AMZN, MSFT and AAPL and put it all into NIO at 39.5 last week. I'm not sure about your situation, but this is my play money account so I'm okay with the risk. My goal is to build it up to 100k and if I make it there, I'll probably reallocate to safe and boring blue chips.

IMO the trillion dollar companies won't give you the bang for your buck that growth stocks do. Even Tesla hasn't moved much since it split. Not to say that they can't pop later on, but right now is the time to get into NIO, PLTR, NNDM etc that have 10x potential.

Dip is coming again...questions is how far will it dip before climbing again

I'm in pretty similar situation thinking of this as my play money, albeit I passed the 100k mark in January after about 4 years of playing (fluctuate between 120-130k now). I told myself I was going to reallocate to safe and boring blue chips when I hit my outstanding mortgage balance, around 300k.

But yeah, AMZN wasn't really a pick I had in mind - it was more for my wife as she was starting to get interested in individual stocks but now she's got her own account. I sold it this morning and as good a company as it is, there's other ways I'd like to invest the 3k odd dollars.

Good day to buy today!

To you NIO holders, does it make you nervous at all that the Chinese government has so much control over the market? I feel like a solid company can go under from one day to the next at the whim of the government. I hope this is nothing but propaganda-driven paranoia. I hold 232 shares of NIO @ 28 now.
