hello everyone, so i was just curious what everyone thinks abot this
i've been volunteering/working for about 12 hours per week. I was offered a scribe job that I am thinking about doing for my senior year only that asks me to commit 10 hours per week. I will be dropping some most volunteering except for one and my other restaurant job
Do you think that this is a wise decision?
I'm thinking about taking the scribe position bc I want to gain that particular experience before i graduate. would you think that it'd be foolish for me to drop volunteering to do this scribe job?
thanx everyone

I think it depends on what type of volunteer experience you would be giving up. Giving up the restaurant job for the scribe job is definitely a good idea. But what type of volunteer experience would you be losing? If its an immersive one that stands out and is important to you, I would think hard about it. If its a generic thing that you just sort of do to fill in your CV.. then trying something new like the scribe job could only add to your CV and knowledge base. Just my take on it.

I agree. Go off the quality of your volunteer experience and if you feel that you have enough of it. I was scribe for about 2 years and loved the experience. I learned a ton and it gave me a lot of talking points during interviews. It has also carried me pretty far here in medschool in terms of having relevant, real-world, background knowledge.

Scribe position is great for experience and it comes up in interviews! But the pay is low low low low low. So take that into consideration. If possible I would switch out the restaurant gig with the scribing one and continue all volunteering.

Thank you all for the replies!

I also would've volunteered as a first aid for about ~70 hours total which i would be dropping as well.
