Should I even bother clarifying?

Most of the time when I tell people that I play the synthesizer and made music with a couple of local amaetur musicians before, people automatically assume that I am a DJ who scratches because I tell them that . Even though I worked for a DJ and hosted some parties by myself before but I've never even used vinyls for parties (too heavy to carry and most venues don't have the audiophilic system that actually shows the difference in SQ)
During my second visits, several profs and admission officers came up to me and tried to talk to me about DJ and disc scratching. I tried to tell them that I'm technically not a DJ even though I do a lot of stuff with sound.
Should I send the admission offices a letter to clarify?

I don't think so. I don't see how it would really affect your admissions chances. Either way it's a neat hobby, and that's all that really matters.

if i were on the adcom and read a letter like the one you are describing, i would say "uhhhh okkaaaayyyy..." and toss it into the file.

i'm gonna go with no. is scratching vs. synthesizing inherently more competitive as an EC? i'm going to guess that neither really matters.

Usually when I think synthesizer I think keyboard. Are you using a keyboard or are you controlling it with a computer? If it's a keyboard say you play that.
