Hey all! I’m glad to report that I finally got accepted, after many tries. I have my degree but I have decided to take several classes this spring semester in order to get myself prepared for med school. Since I’m also working this semester I don’t know how great my grades will be. Does anyone know if schools would ever retract an acceptance for poor grades after acceptance? Since all the classes are electives I’m thinking I could get Cs or drop them if lower and Ill be ok. Am I wrong?

Also anyone know what classes would be the most beneficial. Ive heard Anatomy and Biochem, I was also thinking of taking some other electives for the sheer joy of learning. Any possible pitfalls of this strategy, I’ll be happy as long as it doesn’t jeopardize my acceptance.

You don't want to relax for a bit? You'll have plenty of time for school, why not take a vacation instead 🙂

Just audit the courses, or if you really want them to show up on your transcript, take them for NC (no credit). That way you don't have to worry about the pressures of making a grade.

But I agree with the first response, take a vacation.

Well One reason is that I dont have much of a Science background. I was a history major and only had the very basic science requirments. Also I figure I can take the summer off. So do you all think they would even look at this semesters grades, I'm just a little paranoid that somehow the acceptance will be taken away! Thanks

1. YES, your admission can be revoked with low grades.
2. With admission, you have the sufficient knowledge to enter med school currently, since you have the prerequisites and performed well on the MCAT. No additional information is neccessary, since it will be learned in medical school. Even if you take extra classes, you will study just as hard in medical school if you didn't, so why waste your time? You're going to be so sick of studying that you will wish you didn't waste that precious free time.

I don't think they are going to take acceptance away, as long as you pass the classes. I really think you should just audit them anyhow. Oh, and I am a philosophy major, but I certainly am not spending my summer studying for medical school. I think the consensus is it is a waste of time anyhow. That is why you can major in anything; they teach you all you need to know in medical school. Anyhow, just take the classes p/f or audit them, or just pass! good luck

Thanks for all the replies, I just thought that actually taking the classes for a grade may force me to study and learn. It seems like everyone is telling me to just relax, but I just think having even a little background may make med school a little better. I know I'll study hard either way.

Well I think I'll give the classes a shot, and if I'm doing bad I'll drop them. Another paranoid question. Assuming that I want to waste time and money. Can an acceptance be revoked if I ended up droping a whole semester classes later on after I realized I'm doing poorly in them. Would a bunch of W's cause them to ask questions. Sorry about these random questions.

I doubt it. I think you would have to REALLY screw up to have an acceptance be revoked. I've never even heard of such a thing. I must add my 2 cents and reiterate the above that you are going to work hard in med school anyway no matter what. You might as well see it for the first time in med school while it's still interesting and do well. If it's seeing it for the second time, some people are already so bored with the material they end up not studying as well and don't do as well. Not to say you're that kind of person, but just a thought.

Some acceptance letters specify that they are contingent with getting C's or better in all remaining coursework. I've been told that there is no course you really need to take prior to med school beyond the prerequisites that will be particularly helpful (I have been swayed away from bothering with biochem and anatomy by various faculty and med students). I agree with the other posters, either take a vacation, or find a way to earn some $ while you have time.

Can you take the elective classes on a pass/no pass basis? This way you could work hard and learn the material while not worrying about grades. 👍

Thanks for all the posts...Does anyone know what one has to do (in general) to get an acceptance revoked? Any horror stories? I'm pretty sure its rare but thought it may be useful to know.
