Umm I am 24 as well. LOL I enjoy a relationship where we are BOTH the attractive ones!

Were you born in 1984 as your screen name says? If so, wouldn't you just be turning 29 that year you graduate?

hahaha...you got me. Yes I am born in 1984. However, I just recently (1 month ago) decided to apply to Pharmacy school...I haven't taken the PCAT (I will take it Jan 2009) and just got my pharm tech job 3 days ago...so chances are I won't be ready to apply for Fall 2009...so I will be applying next year for Fall 2010. I will be 29 when I graduate but turning 30 in Oct.

Here is my rant of the day:

You mean you can't imagine yourself with a younger guy?

Forgive me if I've jumped to conclusions too quickly, but everything you've written have led me to believe you want to marry an older man who makes more money than you and is in a position of power. nothing wrong with that.

My question is why is it that women's roles have expanded way more than men's roles?

In comparison, we often look down on the concept of younger men dating older women when it is more acceptable for women to date either a younger or older men. Could it be women voice their opinions more than men? maybe...

There are so many roles women can take on but men simply cannot. Men are suppose to be the bread winner and not being able to make more money is almost an embarrassment in the public eye. Yet it is perfectly okay to be either a trophy wife or an independent women who makes her own money.

I'm not saying women have it easier than men. I think we should be open minded and realize what may be weird to us isn't weird at all to others and that's okay. We should understand what is the accepted norm and make our own informed decisions in terms of what we want for ourselves.

SHC1984, to answer your question, yes men who are potential eye candies to the ladies and have game, can also date them for money. It happens all the time.

I totally agree with you, women's roles have expanded MORE.

To answer your question: There are two roles in society. Masculine and feminine. Masculine means power and indepence...which is positive. Men was traditionally associated with being masculine while women were not. Women were traditionally associated with being feminine...which was more negative than positive.

Society values improvement. If women move up to being powerful...its going from negative to positive...which is great. If a woman doesn't move up...then it's still okay...b/c we are women! 😛 (not to mention SOCIETY value women for their looks, and men for their money...it's shallow, but it's the way it works and that's another REASON why its acceptable for women to be trophy wives...😉)

However, a man is traditionally associated with being masculine...if he moves DOWN its look bad.

Let me just make up an example here: The same goes with a straight A student and a straight C student. If a straight C student moves up and becomes a straight A student its GREAT...but if a straight A student becomes a straight C student its diasppointing...same concept...a straight A student has NO room for "expanding" just like a man doesn't either. However a straight C student can "expanded" and get all A(s) OR the student can stay being a straight C student and nothing is wrong with that. 😉

I am not sure who has it harder...men or women?

I have been in a long distance relationship for almost 5 years now. Me and my fiance started dating in January of my senior year of high school and I left for school the next August.
For undergrad he stayed in our hometown and I went home almost every weekend.
Now in pharmacy school I have my own apartment and he comes down most every weekend to see me and about one weekend a month I go home.
This arrangement sucks, but due to his job it has to be that way, especially since he has a stable job in an unstable job market. While, I miss him all of the time and Sundays are incrediably rough days, I didn't have much of a choice on where to go to school since UK was the only in-state pharmacy school at the time I was applying. We are now discussing arrangements that we will have to make depending on where I decide to go for residency, but that discussion is a little harder due to the fact that we will be married by that point and time.
I will say though, that I glad that we have stayed together through the distance and if I had to go back and redo I would.
Also, I truely believe that most people should have time to "date" in pharmacy school. However, most of my class was already committed is some way when we got to school 1st year.

When people talk about long distance relationships... they are talking about when two are too far away from each other to meet up every week. No way would he be taking plane rides back and forth every week. If seeing each other once a week was hard for both of you than imagine not being in your hometown and somewhere many miles away. That relationship would have been right on the edge. You were in a very lucky situation where you could stay in your area, but some students have no choice but to go to even a different state. I wouldn't consider your relationship to be long distance. Nor would I consider a long distance relationship if your with someone who has free plane rides anywhere (or make so much he/she could afford it), CEO of a major company so has his own private jet/helicopter, etc. Those are exceptions to the norm.

Where do you go to school?
I forgot to mention that location makes a big difference. Some colleges have a lot of students marrying after high school and others don't ever get married till after college. I went to two colleges in different areas and one you just never heard of anyone getting married or was married. The other school it was rare to see someone not in a relationship.

You also mentioned you went to an in-state school? Well then most of the students were from that area, so their relationship will continue without a problem. When you talk about private schools with students from everywhere, then that's a different situation.

No there is not! The one you love should be all... "child-bearing worthy"... how sad for your baby momma!
I hope you're trolling. Or are you just naïve?

I'm speaking in terms of evolutionary biology. The truth hurts, but then again, the world isn't a pretty place, nor is it fair...

LOL. Touche! Well I think if you push yourself you "might" finish in time. Though I think the last PCAT "most" if not all schools will accept is October. I just hope I get accepted for 2009...otherwise it's back to finish my undergrad. :annoyed:

I'm looking at residencies - the closest being 8 hours from where my boyfriend is now. Only an hour flight though, but he has 3 more years of pharmacy school.

ugh. not fun. I've done long distance before but only lasted a year before I got tired of being on the phone all the time.

I agree with you here. For now, I'm supporting pre-nups too. (Especially with marriages where both spouses make the same amount of money)

Generally, all the female pharmacists I work with or know are either single and loving it or have married men who are currently making at least the same amount of money or more (e.g. PharmDs, DDS, DMS, DOs, MDs, CEOs, etc)

Male pharmacists usually marry women who make less money than they do. (e.g. social workers, teachers, and teachers...somehow teachers are good catches for male pharmacists)

There are exceptions and I may be dead wrong but this is the general trend I've observed from my limited experiences working with pharmacists.

what do you guys and gals think?!🙂

I'm a married pharmacy student. I got married at the age of 22 to a guy 4 years my senior, who was a Japanese citizen. I'm Caucasian, so the cultural differences have been interesting 😛. Japanese women have a different place in society than American women. He is probably going to be making half of what I make by the time I get out of school and get a job. I married for love 😍 He's college educated, which is good because I don't think I could have had a long lasting relationship with someone that wasn't intelligent. Things are going great so far! Ha, ha, well for the most part. The debt freaks him out a bit. I feel like a bad wife around finals, and midterm season. Plus I get really stressed out, and kind of not nice. We both can't wait for pharmacy school to end 😉

What's your stats? if you don't mind sharing. Well, I really wanted to apply to UNC and UCSF...but both of their supplemental deadline are on Nov 1st. so there was no way I could have made it...(plus I still need to take public speaking, statistics, and microbiology Lab)
I guess I can still go for Wingate, Campbell and Georgia...but most schools say on their website that if you take the PCAT on Jan...you are applying for a waitlist spot! 🙁 Maybe I will still apply...maybe I can get off the waiting list! do you want to write my PS for me so I can apply now? hehehe.. j/k

I personally veer away from the "professional types." I have dated many in my younger years from pre-meds to Engineers...I have found yes, they tend to be highly intelligent and have higher paychecks....I was able to go to Hawaii without paying a dime 😉. But, I have found one commonality...they can be extremely boring individuals. I think trying to find someone just like you equates to nothing but boredom and basing love on a paycheck or having a highly regarded profession is ridiculous and makes you no different from fake-breasted, uneducated, fake-tanned bimbos that frequent bars looking for their ticket to the good life. It also is slightly sad that although a woman could be so confident as to pursue a graduate degree, she still needs to find validation of her worth in the man she chooses to marry. I have found compatibility with the unlikeliest of characters....a graphic designer/artist/musician, and he has truly opended my eyes to how narrowminded I have been in the past. He has even led me to tap into my artistic side and we spend our sundays half-naked, painting the afternoon away. Plus he is hot and how often are professional men hot? Only on tv my bitches LOL

Eh, not really something I share. My GPA isn't horrible, but I feel it's subpar. Well you can still take those classes next semester right? I am taking physics, statistics and calculus spring 2009.

Waitlist spot might not be so bad though. When you think about how many people change their mind last minute. I remember july/august of this year, tons of people were getting pulled off waiting lists. Haha my PS was nothing special. Though, I think I had to write up short essays for a few of the schools I applied. Just get it over with, you will feel much better. 😀

I would disagree with you there. Just because you have the resources to see someone does not mean they have the time. Show me a CEO that does not put in 80+ hours a week. Traveling takes alot out of someone, you basically have to uplift your life for that time to go see someone. It is still long distance in my book.

Lol. I guess it would come down to how hot I think the girl is I am seeing. There are people of the opposite sex everywhere. No one can say they wouldn't end up falling for someone else for sure. That's why I play it by ear. haha

Well i was trying to make the comparison between time and location. That long distance is actually more like taking "a long time" than "long distance." Depending on distance, traveling by helicopter might not actually take very long at all. Sure most CEOs have longer hours than normal people, but it was under the assumption that the CEO had weekends off and could see someone every week. In either case this is just extremely rare. I mean even meeting someone that rich is one in a million. Really no point arguing over it as it is situational and a very rare occurrence. Probably shouldn't have even gone there, but was just trying to make the point that seeing each other every week is something I don't consider long distance.

👍 I agree with you on seeing each other on a regular basis. Long distant relationship means not being able to see someone on a regular basis. So we are agrueing the same point😀.

The estrogen is strong in this thread.

But I heard that messing around with girls will give me burning sensations in my no-no spot.

Long distance is hard. It will get to you over time and you'll want more but when you can't have more you'll start questioning the relationship I've been in one for 3 years and we only see each other 4 times a year if we're lucky. Truthfully, it's almost like not being in a relationship period. At first it was okay and I was satisfied because we were each doing our separate thing to prepare for the future. All good things come to an end and now I'm feeling the burn that says I want more.

I hear that. LOL

I love quoting people and cutting out parts of what they say so it sounds funny. Haha.

These days, it's not just the burn of a relationship, but the burn of everything. Wanting to get into pharmacy school and just the application process itself is burning me out.

Good question. I was originally planning to meet a new significant other in pharm school; however, the new Obama rules effectively force a pharmacist to marry a ***** in order to avoid being heavily taxed. So we'll see. 😀

Oh I wouldn't worry. I have it on pretty good authority that there are some impressive *****s entering pharmacy school as well. 🙄

My wife will be my meal ticket while I am in pharmacy school. She will be working as a nurse to pay the basics and student loans (hopefully 😱 ) will take care of the rest.

I have already graduated with a chemistry degree May 2007. I haven't applied as a pos bacc to go back to school yet...I was hoping to study for the PCAT all the way through Jan 24th. Classes for next semester starts Jan 9 I believe...so thats why I was thinking about taking them Fall 2009 instead. Do you think I should apply for Fall 2009 and take the classes Spring 2009???

So I am not currently seeing anyone, but I was asked an interesting question. What if I start dating someone before school? Will they go with me? What about them having a job?

Since I didn't really have an answer, I was just curious what everyone else here was planning. Those that are married will obviously take their spouse, so there really isn't a question for them.

if my bf had gone to midwestern 2 yrs ago, it might have been a very hard long-distance relationship i dont think we would have made it through. But since he stayed in-state for UMB, i didn't have to move at all! When he finishes school and wants to move, i would go with him. But, if i get into pharmacy school next fall, we'll have to do the long-distance till he finishes school and come live with me!

You already have a chemistry degree? What pre reqs for pharmacy school do you need to do now?? (biology?) I think you still should apply this year for fall 2009 if you already have a chemistry degree, the pharmacy admissions would love that chemistry degree. If you don't have much pre reqs to do, yes, you should finish all your pre reqs by taking classes next semester and/or summer.

On the other hand, remember that there is a rule for how old your pre reqs can be. My school is 7 years and after that, I would have to update the pre reqs all over again. I am not trying to pressure you or anything but you may have to finish your pre reqs very soon (if you started school in fall 2003 and ended spring 2007, that would mean your pre reqs would start to expire 2010!).

EDIT: But you didn't take your PCAT? I don't know if it is possible to go to pharm school without PCAT (I heard there are small amount of pharm schools that doesn't do PCAT, so maybe apply to those?).

Yes I have a chemistry degree. I have more biol classes than most people I know so I don't have to take anymore biol classes. Haha..
But I do have to take. Statistics, Public Speaking, Microbiology Lab and maybe Economics...(the economics I took was very basic...not sure if its acceptable at some schools that require Micro AND Macro! )

I want to apply to UNC, Wingate, Campbell, UCSF, Geogria, and Mercer.

Do any of these school have expiration dates for preqs????

No I haven't taken the PCAT yet. Studying NOW to take it Jan 24th. 😱

That is good you finished all your biology! I have tons of bio courses to take next semester! 😱😱😱

In my school, you don't need statistics (only calculus), presentational speaking (same as public speaking), microbiology lab and only one economics (micro OR macro...lol), so I think your 'basic' economics might be enough for University of Colorado Denver pharm school.

Here is the website I found:

I don't know where to find the other universities info but here is my school info on the pre req rule:

Seven-Year Policy: Since the pre-pharmacy curriculum is essential in the preparation for pharmacy school, calculus and pre-pharmacy science courses taken more than seven years prior to the fall semester admission is desired must be retaken for a grade unless the applicant's subsequent academic or work experiences relate directly to the coursework. Request for a waiver of this policy must be submitted in writing; all requests will be handled on an individual basis.

It was from this website:

http://www.uchsc.edu/sop/pharmd/7.Admissions/3.Pre-Pharmacy_Coursework/

I will try to look at the other universities after I write my paper for Brit/American Literature course...

If you take PCAT now, how can you show the universities your scores if you want to enroll by fall 2009? I thought scores take a long time?
