To people who did med school in the northeast, did the really snowy weather the weeks before rank list submission cause you to move northeast programs lower on their list? Perhaps in talking with fellow students? I'm hoping to match into the northeast, and, to be honest, I was watching with a small bit of glee as the northeast got swamped with snow. Perhaps the weather will give me the slight edge I need to get in....perhaps I'm just hoping too much 🙂.

With this crazy winter I'm suprised Unv of Az didn't get more love from the SDN users. The high tomorrow is 73.

One of my classmates has them first (AZ). I definitely think the weather and the fact that the interviews are in the winter do put the northern programs at a disadvantage, at least with applicants that do not know how nice summer is up here (or, how awfully hot/humid the summer is in some of the southern places).

it snows in the northeast and it is a fact - i dont think anyone should be affected by the fact that interviews are held in the winter...

if |you hate snow| more than |you love the program|, then dont rank it high.

It got down to -15 F when I interviewed at Mayo (Rochester, MN) in January 2005. That definitely convinced me to rank less-acclaimed programs in Texas higher, even though I really liked the faculty and residents I met at Mayo. So your hope is not totally unfounded.

Being so miserable in the snow this year is the reason that I ranked Cleveland Clinic, Ohio State, and U of Chicago so low.

They don't plow my street...that sucks really bad.

But don't you drive a jeep? 😀

considering many people use location as one of their primary factors for picking what schools they apply to and creating rank lists, i would guess weather probably does factor into decision making.

i had an interview last year where it snowed so much that some people got stuck in the airport, some got stuck at their hotel, and half the interviewers didn't show up. i think it definitely scared some of the non-northerners off.
