So what have you stolen so far from work?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
just wondering what prescriptions you guys at retail and hospital have filled for yourself

I'm betting that such actions are punishable by law so I highly doubt anyone here is:

A) Dumb enough to risk one's career by stealing

B) Dumb enough to talk about it on this board if person in question did steal.

Common sense my friend, common sense.....🙄

Is this a ****ing serious question???? Someone has the power to banish this user no?

Troll - unless you mean the Ibu kept on stock for employees.

It happens, but I doubt that anyone will admit.

That's why CVS and Walgreens has an LP department. The number of people who steal is MIND BOGGLING!😱😱

The ability of humans to rationalize is why we have the word rationalize. I remember working in a store at Christmas and asking people when they purchased gift wrap if they needed tape. The most common answer was "I get it at work" I always wanted to say, you mean you steal it from work.

The last time I checked Pharmacists were human and as I can attest, they steal at the same rate as the rest of humanity. I have seen too many colleagues lose their 6 figure job over stealing a few dollars worth of ________. You can fill in the blank. Drugs, soda, money, ice cream.

It is however a silly question to ask on a public forum.

Um, nothing. Why would someone risk their entire career over a few pills? But I have gotten some pretty sweet pens and other crap as freebies.

Simple..

Because think they wouldn't get caught. Stealing/Selling can add 20-100% more salary. It's the temptation..

Like Old Timer says, We are all humans. Im not sure If I should bring up religion here, but the bible says the first humans risked everything for an apple.

One of the guys in my class told me about a staff pharmacist at his hospital that got busted last year for ripping off EPO. Apparently he started by stealing a vial or two, then he got kinda ballsy and starting stealing cases of it! He finally got caught though.

hilarious thread, I'm surprised it's still open. At my store it's only been the techs who've been caught stealing, as far as I know (percocet). Though I have been asked if I could "hook it up" with vicodin when telling someone I work in a pharmacy 🙄

Where I worked before, the only place I didn't see a camera was the bathroom...and yet, someone stole and got fired fired after being there for 20 years.

Is a camera legal in a bathroom???😱

I guess perhaps if the bathroom was totally within a pharmacy - but...what are the privacy rights, etc with using a bathroom without being photographed??? I know they photograph in store dressing rooms, but its posted. To me thats a different matter.

I truly don't know. Where's a JD when we need him/her???

Think Kelly said the only place she didn't see a camera was the bathroom.

Yeah - I read that..which made me think this 20yr employee thought he/she could take something to the bathroom to hide/steal.

I guess I misunderstood........my bad.

I'm surprised as well. Though it hasn't gone as bad as I thought it would. We'll see how long it takes to die or get ugly. Hopefully death before ugliness.

I took a pen once, but I brought it back the next day.🙂

I like to steal all the oxygen from the room. I sneakly replace it with carbon dioxide. I dont think anyone has noticed.

i've stolen nothing, but pharmacy has stolen my soul....
:scared:

I have a bad habit of coming home with extra Sharpies when I work in the IV Room but I like to think I make up for it by how many I lose in there too!

I think I've lost and then "borrowed" enough pens that I break even though.

I worked with a pharmacist who knew that one of her classmates stole things.

This guy was an intern for a local retail store and decided to conduct an independant study of the different ed meds. He tested how long he could go, how many times/day, and various other traits. He even had a dedicated experiment partner. He was a mid 20's guy and did not split the tabs, he even took more than 1 at a time. I am surprised he dident get caught.

i'm surprised something didn't get damaged.

I've accidentally stolen a ton of rubber bands and paper clips. I spend the whole day cramming them in my coat pockets, and even though I try to clean them out before I leave, I miss a few, they go through the wash, they end up around the house and I don't bother bringing them back to work.

But buddy, if you think anyone here is stupid enough to admit to stealing drugs from work...what are you, a rookie DEA agent? It's impossible to steal controlled substances without getting caught and having a paper trail in triplicate.

I know a pharmacist who would fill Tussionex and Xanax for herself and her daughters.....I could get her license yanked if I really wanted too.......

I've stolen a lot of package inserts...

I always come home with pens in my shirt pocket🙂. I bring them back eventually. But seriously, what kind of question is this? As a pharmacist, where would your morals be by stealing anything (drugs, money etc?). Im sorry, but my conscience is so strong that I could not imagine doing anything that would jeopordize my freedom and my career.

Dr. M

Um, her license and her freedom. Do you mean she is filling these meds with no valid rx from a physician? If so, then she is committing a felony. I would be obligated to turn her in. If It were me, I would distance myself from her as much as possible. Anyway, if you know something and authorities come asking you questions, and you said nothing before, I would hate to be you. Be careful. I have seen a few careers ruined due to stealing and the people who knew and did nothing!

Agree - however, cyclo is an intern. But, check your intern laws. Ignorance of the laws using that as an excuse to allow breaking a law to go on is not tolerated by the DEA or the state boards generally.

Be sure you document, document, document! Otherwise - it is your word against hers.

Oh, this was a couple of years ago, and I have since left that store.........and I knew of it from the tech's who were full time and counted them for her......

Thank God! If you are ever in that situation, dont ever look the other way! Always follow the laws and document as SDN mentioned! Good luck on your studies!

I worked for an independent for about 3 years and when we got $50's and $100's we had to walk them over to the pharmacist so that he could put them in the safe. One time we got really busy and I put a $50 in my scrub pocket and was going to run it over to the pharmacist once I got a chance. Well, I forgot and ended up finding it when I got home and emptied my pockets....I immediately called the owner and straightened the whole thing out. That also happened when a patient gave my an Rx to put on hold. Always returned though!

hey, this probably isnt the right place to ask but i didnt need a whole thread about it and i was too lazy to search. Can you fill prescriptions for yourself as a pharmacist of unscheduled/noncontrolled drugs? If it is legal, is it considered professional/unprofessional ??

You have a written script from a doctor. You should have no problem.....

Most states have their own laws that address this. However, corporations almost uniformly don't allow their employees to fill their own rxs or those for their families, unless its an emergency.

For myself, I have a colleague fill the rx, the tech rings it up & I take it home. It just leaves no question as to what was done.
