Could someone tell me what to expect tomorrow?
I went partially matched (prelim only) and was shocked not to match advanced. I decided to SOAP what was left on Monday and didn't think about it much more until today when I started processing things and thinking rationally and realized that my chances are slim to none for soaping or matching next year and that I would be very happy in rads. I applied to all of the rads programs in SOAP around 6PM today (tuesday). Only a couple of them have been downloaded so far. Did I miss the boat or do I need to be prepared to receive calls tomorrow (i.e., stay home from rotations) morning?

Tuesday was technically the day for receiving phone call interviews/Skype etc. Programs make their list by 11:55 AM Wednesday (today) and at 12 PM you check R3 under the "offers" button to see if you have any offers. Yes, you can get offers without having been interviewed. You have until 2 PM to accept or decline, and then there is round 2 immediately after. Between the end of round 2 and the start of round 3 (Thursday AM) is another period to send 10 more applications and potentially be contacted by programs. Hope that's clear.

So it would be atypical for a program to read a new application and make a call Wednesday morning? I.e., my application is not going to get looked at by most places I applied to Tuesday night? Or would they be looking throughout the day on Wednesday for potential second round candidates?

As I know it, yes it would be atypical for a program to do that. I think some of the people in the know here said that programs basically have their rank list ready for the first 2 rounds by the end of Tuesday, and the next time they go to reconsider people is between 2 and 3 (Wed 5 PM to Thursday AM).

DO student here, applied to PM&R, average-ish step 1usmle/COMLEX, 620 step 2, got zero bad feedback on my interviews...knew there was a chance I could not match, but felt good after audition rotation and interviews. Looking at Peds, Child Neuro, Neuro, and some IM prelim. Got one call from neuro on Monday afternoon then nothing since then. Thought my one quick response was a good sign but clearly not. Anyone else looking at peds or child neurology programs and hear anything?

Sleepless night... hope this is the last one
Man this SOAP thread is not very active. Does that mean not that many people are SOAPing? or just not on here?

So we can put in our apps to the final 10 today. How would we know until after round 2 has ended which spots are still open? Advice on when to submit final 10--after round 2 or right at 2:30 pm today?

Was about to post to ask for clarification on this - is there an update on open spots between round 1 and 2 (from 2 PM to 2:55 pm)?????????????/

Compared to the one last year this is dead, I don't get it at all...

This is what I asked last night. From looking at last year's thread, it seems the answer is no. But I would still like clarification on this if anyone knows the answer, Thanks!

I am here just not that active

Here is hoping we all have good news in a few hours

I don't know how much we can go off of last year, because I was told they changed the number of rounds, among other things, from last year to this year. But obv. that is a good clue, just don't see why they can't bother to update

I can't imagine the programs being very productive in changing their preferences between 2 and 3pm. I could be wrong, but I think I'll hold off to submit my 10 until after round 2 (2nd offer period, 3-5pm)...

Unless, everyone on their rank list has taken a spot somewhere else. So, you might get lucky if that is the case.

I feel like phone calls give false hope, since they're so short and you don't know how many other people they're calling or considering. There has got to be a better way about this. Don't they realize how much unhealthy stress this whole process creates? The damage to one's self esteem is enough to kill them or end them on a downward spiral.
But them again, the world of medicine cares nothing about health and quality of life to those who work in it...

Also, did we come to a conclusion about getting end email from NRMP or do we have to log in at noon?

As an aside, I'm really curious to see who gave false hope based on what they said in the calls...it will be very clear based on the results. If they didn't do what they clearly all but stated, it would be alarming that they'd make the choice to be so manipulative when they really don't need to be as compared to the match. If there are 1 or 2 spots open they really don't need to have that long of a list, they should be realistic with people. We;ll see

felt the same about those thank you letters. If I had known better, I would have tried so much harder once the interviews were done.

It looks like from reading last year's thread and the SOAP guide that we get an email at 12:00 PM.

How are people passing the next 3 hours, I can't focus on anything

S***, shower, shave, pray.

Chief of my service gave me yesterday and today off. Nice guy. Attending even offered to make a call for me.

Medicine is cruel. You wonder why any of us signed up for this kind of abuse. Right now I honestly couldn't advocate anyone making this career choice. Between the psychological insults, the strained interpersonal relationships, the opportunity loss and the practice environment, its a bum deal.

The last few years it seems like the idea that docs make too much is out there...that's pretty irritating. I read somewhere that being a FP is the worst effort to income ratio of any job in America (something along those lines), yeah what a sweet deal...

I'm not thinking about income. I'm thinking about having a job to pay loans and be able to eat.

Agreed. I had no idea that this sort of thing was an issue. I am fairly certain most people in general public don't realize the issue either. The issue being of course the bottleneck effect of residency programs

Most people in the general public, for my experience, make snippy comments about doctors and making money. I thought this kind of anger was usually towards business people, but not anymore

I should get off here and start my application to the local homeless shelter. It is an application process right, with $53452234 per shelter, 4 recommendation letters, and a personal statement for why the shelter is right for me.....right?

Someone mentioned that this thread is less active than last year's. Maybe there are less positions available this year and more people matched overall.

Hi, I have been reading this thread since yesterday and thought I would join the club. So here is my story, I obviously didn't match and I received a phone call yesterday very early, it actually woke me up 9:30am. Yes I was still asleep at that hr, trying not to wake up to the real world and facing the fact that I didn't match. BTW I'm an US IMG. Good luck to everyone!!

If I counted up correctly, this year has approximately the same amount of prelim-surg as last year. If someone is too anxious to sit and wait, he can have a little distraction by counting those spots up. 🙂

I have the list of positions that didn't fill by specialty, I think total there were 1252 PGY-1 positions that didn't fill this year, and 127 PGY-2 positions. I think this is comparable to years past.

I have been wondering about one aspect of the SOAP. Let us say we DO NOT get an offer at 12, do you just hear nothing? As opposed to a "you were not offered a position in Round X of the SOAP."

That would be a terrible email to receive, brutal

I am not sure and I sure don't want to know the answer to that question...

Besides wallowing in my own self pity, I've been fortunate enough to have such great support. My family is all here for me, and my friends all check up on me very often. Some of my friends didn't match last year and they really stepped it up with support and advice (since they've been through it, they know how important they are to me right now).

This is a terrible time in my life, like a bunch of you guys probably, but if you take a step back, people still love you, no one's sick or dying, and you WILL get through it and move on.

We gotta think positive, eh?

I think staring at my email with nothing but tumbleweed rolling by would be equally as devastating. I'd prefer some type of acknowledgement as opposed to nothing.

I was going off of the thought that you get an email from them, you expect it says you have an offer, but then the contents say you didn't. To me, that would suck so much worse.

from last years experience, it will say something like "you have no offers this round. next round of offers will be sent at etc." I dont recall getting emails about having no offers, just seeing it on the NRMP r3. but perhaps people who do get offers will get emails im assuming.

Ehhh, they both suck equally I suppose!

I loled at your "I would kill any and all of you comment" btw lol

So have people gotten emails/calls? We don't have to get into this if its gonna make things more stressful...

Nothing for me today. Things are not looking good and everyone I talk to say getting a spot on SOAP is almost impossible for an IMG. Guess I'm **** out of luck.

My sister got 3 calls and 1 email conversation Monday and Tuesday, all local programs, nobody offering anything yet.
