SOAP 2019 Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I submitted 45 at 3pm on Monday.

Same question. Has any IMG (us or non-us) gotten any interviews.

You should definitely send a thank you email and indirectly express your interest like how much you would love to be in the program and add some non medical conversation you had with the PD during the interview in the email.
Thank you for this advice! The doc said they talked to the PD and they are very interested in me. Taking this with a grain of salt cause I heard this multiple times from programs during interviews and ended up not matching. Still emailing with them though so hopefully it translates into an offer tomorrow morning!

I submitted like 10 applications before the glitch. ~25 applications yesterday when the system opened again and the rest last night and this morning.

Has any non-US IMG got a SOAP call yet?
I'm a non-US IMG and got a phone interview for IM Categorical, but then again I am a permanent resident.

US IMG submitted 44 around 2:30pm Monday. No calls, No emails, No communication in anyway from any programs applied to.

Is it possible to receive offers in the rounds even if they didnt call you?? Im a FMG with ok scores (222,241,1st pass) and no red flags. however I havent received a single phonecall or email
I'm in the exact same position with the same scores. No calls. I have no idea what the problem is. Do you?

Still nothing.

it's a sucker punch that a program that I did 7 different rotations at including a Sub-I in this specialty, got good evaluations from, wont even give me a call right now.

Hi! Any DOs in the house in this same SOAP fiasco?

Yeah man, I’m a 2nd time reapplicant. Did a TY, have an unrestricted license and work PT as a PCP for a small clinic (probably the most clinical thing ever, since I am actually doctoring). I have multiple COMLEX failures that led to a late graduation date, but rocked Level 3 first time around to try and show that I have changed. Despite all this, still no damn calls as of yet.

In the worst case scenario, what would you do next academic year? Extend your medical education to a 5th year to do research/clinicals?

I already graduated and did a research year this year. School wouldn't let me postpone graduation and they've been invisible this whole process even after promising to help me even after I graduate. It was expected of the general structure of that school anyway.

So the desperation is through the roof. I'm not sure what I'm going to do to be honest.

If anyone has had any video interviews - how long did they last and what kinds of questions did they ask?

Not a clue... hope its because programs got their schedule messed up because of the SOAP fiasco and will extend invites without interviews... one can only dream

I want to make sure I understand the SOAP process so I don't mess this up like I somehow messed up the match despite ranking 14 programs (sigh). I had 5 phone interviews today, in two different specialties (neither speciality is what I originally applied to). I am getting the feeling from talking to these program directors that they basically need to hear me commit in order to get an offer. One PD even gave me her cell phone number, told me to call/text her if I want to go there. Maybe I am just cynical based on what went down in the match, but how could I possibly trust that she isn't full of crap? Am I honestly supposed to "pick" some place and go after it or am I supposed to aggressively pursue all leads like they are all my first choice? How does this even work? Part of me is still holding on to the hope that a program in my intended specialty contacts me, but bottom line is I need to match. No research years or what not for me.
Wow that's a lot of interviews! I had one friend just get one and I haven't received any so far. Do you mind sharing your scores and what you applied to? Also are you an IMG?

How do programs gauge candidates during SOAP? I don't think programs will have enough time to read personal statements and look through the entire application.

Is it mostly based on scores, citizenship/visa status, and perceived interest in the specialty?

That's what I'm curious about. What are you applying to?

just got my second call from Uganda -- what is going on with all these spam calls? It's like they know we're all anxiously waiting by our phones

few hours left!! I don't think I'll get something now 🙁

Glad to hear. Hope we all match.

I just want just one chance to interview so that at least I can express my passion toward internal medicine and patients. That too much to ask. I can do on call everyday!!!

I seriously feel like those of us who had to SOAP should sue. Technical difficulties on the part of ERAS, and we're the ones who had to pay for their "service," and have an entire round eliminated!

We're in the medical field. Freedom of discussion is maybe North Korea level.

You'll just get blacklisted for "unprofessionalism" and they will move on.

Lost a few years of my life expectancy over these last 2 days
You made me chuckle with this, but let me set the scene. I scrambled back in 2003 - US FMG, from the Caribbean 2002, couldn't be in the match the year before due to the CSA fiasco (which was piloted then for USMLE Step II CS), signed outside the match for a prelim IM spot. Didn't match 2003, and found out Mt. Sinai EM did not rank me (because they didn't fill). Found out later it's because I was Carib. Scrambled into EM 2003, by "playing stupid" - the main number was something like 555-2240, and the coordinator 555-2241. So, I just "accidentally" called 555-2239. I got the PD. She was not angry. She phone interviewed me, I was especially charming for 5 minutes, and she said, "You know what? You're one of our interns!"

So, your comment about losing a few years of life: I have been playing Diablo 3 again recently, and finally got to a difficulty level where I get killed (Barbarian level 70, paragon 104). And, when I die, the screen says, "You have died. Your equipment loses 10% of durability". So, your comment made me think of that! But, you know what? Even with durability loss, they still work fine!!

DOs did you all reach out to the open programs from the AOA match? (If you were registered in that match)
