SOAP 2019 Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Call me crazy, but I feel like maybe not everyone’s applications went through due to the issues on MyEras, but they’re keeping it hush-hush to avoid the drama.

- believer in all things paranoid

Honestly, where’s the confidence that ERAS is actually functioning properly? How do we check?!

I'm ok with hassling them now. Even if nothing comes from it, all the stress /trouble we can cause for ERAS I'm 1000% for.

Dude, I actually sent them a message after writing that asking how I can verify my apps went through!

I know it says available by the document name. But as a former programmer, what makes that available thing show? Confirmation of it being successfully sent or just because you pushed the apply button?
I guess I’m just ranting due to my own inadequacy of not matching! lol

I’m just entertaining myself because I already did 2 loads of unnecessary laundry and cleaned my kitchen and bedroom

I had a phone interview with a categorical Peds program! The person I spoke to seem to be interested and asked me a lot of questions. A question asked was why I thought I didn't match in the first place. Definitely be prepared to answer that question. The interview lasted about 25 mins, but I'm sure that doesn't mean anything.

I have only received this phone call throughout yesterday and today.

DOs did you all reach out to the open programs from the AOA match? (If you were registered in that match)

If we are registered in the soap, I don't believe we are allowed to contact any open AOA spots until after or else it constitutes a match violation.
Just from my obs though after the DO match, alot of there leftover spots went over to the soap. Hang in there guys 🙁

Going to have to leave my current research position immediately, if things don't work out this week. Can't expect me to run trials and take it seriously without having the job I intended on at the end of the year.

Should be a fun Friday conversation with my supervisor

Hang in there everyone. I would echo the DOs above regarding the AOA Post Match. Contacting the NRMP and/or AOA regarding the potential violation may be worth your while. Information on the AOA Post-match, including contact information, can be found at:

https://osteopathic.org/students/prepping-for-residency/post-match-procedure/

This match should be available to all DO candidates, regardless of if you participated in the main AOA match. Don't give up! I'm rooting for all of you.

Hey Guys, I am going to the Bar, is not worth it to wait more time. PDs are not making the phone calls at this time.

Not a single anesthesia call today. I have good stats as well. I think the ENT and ortho people must be taking the spots or something.

That's a match violation, even then, open programs are not even listed. We have to pretty much wait for either a call or scramble :/

I tried to but I didn’t get anything today. Either did my friend that applied ortho. Both of us had 240+ usmles

i got 2 path interviews today. Spoke with my school again they said that in SOAP even 1 interview is good. Also due to everything thats been happening Im sure the PD's will be working late so dont give up hope in getting calls.

Congrats!

I don't know.. I doubt a PD is going to work past 7pm to call someone like me esp since its IM/FM I went for

ERAS sent out an email and it stated all applications were processed. I believe all programs received applications.

I still plan to wait by my phone til 9pm. Are there any interviews after the 1st round of offers or is this it.

Yes there can still be interviews

That email was more of a "hey guys see we fixed it look how competent we are.... please don't sue us or look for other possible solutions"

That’s what I thought but I wasn’t sure. Thanks for clarifying! I hope that helps some of our DO buddies out

Don’t give up folks! You never know how things will work out. It’s the uncertainty that sucks for the most part, but you will all end up doing something worthwhile and meaningful.

I applied derm back in 2011, 249 step I (was a great score then), 15 interviews, didn’t match. When i read that email it felt like I got smacked upside the head with a two by four. There was only one real legit derm spot left. That was when it was still the scramble. I called the program every day. I was in bed with the shades pulled for like 3 days.

I lost pretty much all hope. I still had my intern year spot. I called them asap and asked them to please give me a derm rotation early. I worked so hard and wasn’t going to give up regardless of how crappy I felt.

Fast forward to April and the derm program with the spot called me and offered me an interview. I went in May. The Thursday before Memorial day the PD/head called me and offered me the spot.

I gave my early rotation intern year in derm to a fellow intern who didnt match derm. She applied that year we were interns and got a derm spot.

We both went on to be chief residents. I got into the fellowship I wanted and have an awesome job with phenomenal colleagues.

My main current problem is whether I should adopt a cat or dog.

So the tl;dr is keep going. You’ve worked too hard. I know, I’ve been there.

if you've been there you might remember that it's not very helpful to know right now that someone else's main current problem is whether he/she should adopt a cat or dog.

I know. I don’t mean it in a bad way. It’s meant to illustrate that you guys will almost certainly be that same way and look back to these days as just a memory. I apologize if that comes off as insensitive.

To be perfectly honest with you I have more significant things I’m dealing with, but I want to try to keep the thread as positive as possible.

I think you should be thankful that people are posting success stories that show to many that not matching is not the end of the world (though it may seem that way now) and that everything works out at the end for everyone because we all deserve to be a practicing physician! please do not be mean to those who try to provide positive and motivating examples about their road on becoming a doctor!

Thank you for the kind words, but it’s ok I do get it since I was there. Misery really does love company so I suppose some of what I said could make things worse despite my best intentions. Let’s not worry about those things in this thread since there are currently more important things at hand.

Thank you for understanding my intentions though!

For anyone who may be into it or at least receptive to it, practicing some mindfulness during the next few days may help a little.

I want to make sure I understand the SOAP process so I don't mess this up like I somehow messed up the match despite ranking 14 programs (sigh). I had 5 phone interviews today, in two different specialties (neither speciality is what I originally applied to). I am getting the feeling from talking to these program directors that they basically need to hear me commit in order to get an offer. One PD even gave me her cell phone number, told me to call/text her if I want to go there. Maybe I am just cynical based on what went down in the match, but how could I possibly trust that she isn't full of crap? Am I honestly supposed to "pick" some place and go after it or am I supposed to aggressively pursue all leads like they are all my first choice? How does this even work? Part of me is still holding on to the hope that a program in my intended specialty contacts me, but bottom line is I need to match. No research years or what not for me.

I think your point was well intentioned but I agree, right now, it probably does not help. Despite your good intentions! 🙂

Very well. I will delete what I wrote if it’s doing more harm than good.

I will keep this: You will all end up doing meaningful things (you already have). Best of luck to everyone!

People just can't miss the opportunity to tell others what they should or should not do or be.

Hah! I'm doing a mindfulness based study at research currently. Not exactly helping

9 PM EST is slowly approaching. Any updates from US and Non-US (visa-requiring) IMGs?
