I haven't posed on here for a while, but I can't take it anymore.

Is anyone else getting sick of hearing cop-outs for people not wanting to take the MCAT?? It really isn't that different from the DAT. It really can't be much longer that schools will even accept it. Just take the MCAT - it really isn't that bad.

That wasn't the question. Just answer the question smart one. Thanks 🙂

i agree with you. My biggest problem though is that schools still accept this damned thing. if we're gonna proceed further for more recognition, cant the schools decide to only accept the MCAT..i mean come on...

until then, well continue to hear about the DAT

Hey guys I'm writing this for my friend because she really needs advice and doesn't have access to a computer for a while. She is very interested in podiatry and she wants to know what her chances are of getting in.

She has a 3.0 overall gpa, and a 2.55 science gpa, and she just took her DAT and got a 19. I know that there were a few schools that accept DAT's and she wanted to apply to those and not have to take another exam again (the MCAT) because she already has graduated and is willing to apply to the schools that accept the DAT's. What do you guys think her chances are and which schools? Oh yea and she has excellent EC's and rec letters too and will be volunteering for a POD soon as well. Thanks for any advice 🙂

If I was on admissions I would ask her why she didn't take the MCAT during her time off with no other course work...especially when you say she "just" took the DAT...it might be a flag for backup. Additionally, she hasn't even started to shadow a pod yet. IMHO, she might need the MCAT to offset her science GPA. It would probably help.

If it smells like a backup...

I have to agree with the general remarks being made in this thread. However, if your friend is really considering podiatry she should first shadow with a podiatrist for a couple of months to see if she actually likes the profession. A 2.55 science gpa is something she will have to improve on. I hate to say it, but I really hope that she doesn’t get accepted to any of the podiatry schools because of her uninspired academic profile. Therefore, she should take more science courses to not only increase her science gpa but to demonstrate her renewed level of committed academic excellence.
