Heh guys, any clue to how to set up those problems


The ridees of a rectangle are 15 inches by 8 inches. If the rectangle were changed into a square of equal area, what would be the approx. lenght of each sifde of the sqare?

5. 15.50



The current sales price of a power drill is $117. This is $ 30.00 more than half the list price. At what discount is the drill being sold?

1. 32.8%
2. 48.7

15X8 = 120 sqaure inches.....a square has 4 equal sides and the area is the product of two sides... you know that 11x11 is 121, so each side is slightly less than 11, or 10.96


2)
117 = 30 + 1/2(x)
87 = 1/2(x)
X = 174... the original cost of the drill
174(.328) = 57... 174-57 = 117

117 = 30 + 1/2L
L (list price) = 174

The difference between the list price and sale price is: 174-117 = 57

So, the % dicount = price difference/list price: 57/174 = 32.8% [A]
