Hey... I'm about to interview with Sophie Davis, but I'm not sure if I really want to go there... can any current students tell me about how they found the program, facilities, course difficulty, etc? and also any help for the interview would be appreciated. Is there anything I should look out for or be aware of about Sophie besides it's being 7 yr primary care ONLY+2 yrs work?

Thanks!

hey i go there...im a 4th year

when i entered, you had to pay 70,000 if u decided not to do primary care. i think its a 100,000+ now.

Although it is not encouraged, many students chose not to do primary care?(DON?T TELL THEM THAT IN THE INTERVIEWS THOUGH).

i dont think anyone ever wanted to go to sophie at first.....i guess probably because for the city college stigma. However , you will spend most of your time with sophie students, you would most likely have an apartment around campus....(all Sophie students are encouraged to do so). So you would get that campus feel even though city is a commuter college. And you probably spend most your time in a little sophie world separated form the realities of city coll . Especially now that Sophie has its own building.

In terms of the students that go there, the standards are as high as u can get. A majority of sophie students turned down ivy league acceptances, (I turned down Columbia, Georgetown, and 2 other combined degree programs) so you will be in good company. Many are either from your school, Bronx sci. or Gangsta tech?*cough cough*, I mean Brooklyn tech ,,,hahaha.

The facilities has improved since I got there. Sophie now has a new building, with new labs. There is also a new anatomy lab?.in the past Sophie students had to go to downstate for anatomy.

Course difficulty. Very difficult. Especially that first year. You take all of regular chem. (a one year course) in a semester, and orgo chem, in another semester. You will have mostly biomed courses (classes you take only with sophie students), these are usually difficult?and a few regular city college liberal art courses, these you should ace easily. You stop taking city college classes after you 2nd year I believe. The failure rate is high though?..especially in the first year. Of the original 74 that were in my entry class, less than 50 remains.. But people from your school and Bx. Sci, usually do well.

But the biggest advantage of Sophie is cost. You would be paying city college tuition for all of your undergrad and first 2 years of med school. This should not be more than 10,000. In addition, if you get accepted in sophie, chances are you may have scholarships?..I have not paid a single cent of tuition (and i have extra $ from scholarships). And I will not be paying anything until my last 2 years of med sch. So if I do decide to specialize?paying 70,000 would be nothing.

As for the interviews, just smile, ask humanitarian questions to show you are a caring person? , review your essays,?and you should be fine. Good luck. If you have any specifics, pm me.

Gots to run to neuro. clinical conference?.today?cerebella syndromes.
