Stanford supp

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
really?! it says that if you don't get it in within 10 days, they will examin your app more thoroughly? geez, that's harsh...i can get in my app but not my letters =(

actually, the application does not say that it will be examined differently if you don't make the deadline, its just a recommended deadline.

also, i don't think they expect the letters to be in their hands within 10days, probably just mailed at least. how could they possibly file and get to reading all those letters in just 10 days?

Right. I just got an e-mail back from them and it said that the 10 day deadline is for your supplemental application, not necessarily for the LORs.

congrats to those who received the stanford supplemental application!!!!!! can anyone please post a copy of the email they received from stanford informing them to complete the supplemental application? it would be nice to read the email and hope for the best!!!! thanks in advance and good luck everyone!!!!!

"The applicant is responsible for ensuring that we receive all of the following materials...as early as possible. Any delays will lead to a prolonged application review period."

Wow, they were pretty quick. I submitted the secondary on Monday late afternoon and when I woke up this morning (Tuesday) I had the email that they had received and "looked forward" to reviewing my application. I guess they are serious about getting to it within 10 days. I was expecting a bit of a lag between "submitting" and "receiving." Of course my letter will take awhile to get there. But I hope they make decisions about interviews this quickly too. It would be nice to know either way 🙂

sorry about this silly question...but what constitutes a "unit" on question 7? so if i take semester courses...is that 4 units (similar to 4 semester hours on AMCAS)??? i'm so confused!

I took classes under the quarter system, but I entered the units in Semester units, because that's what's used on AMCAS. I think it's safe to use whatever units AMCAS converted your classes into.

has anyone completed the stanford app?
if so, did u pay the app. fee by credit card or check?
and do they need a 2x2 pic?

any UCLA grads here? i didn't take 6 quarters of chemistry lab, and i suspect no one from UCLA did either. what are we supposed to put down as an explanation for this? labs were available but not a requirement so i didn't take them... i don't think this will pass as an excuse though. anyone having similar problems?

6 quarters of Chem Lab? I don't think there are that many!
I took the Chem 20 series, so you have chem 20L, 30L, 130AL, and 130BL. 4 labs max, and most people only take up to 130AL for med school.

yeah that's exactly what i did. i took the 20 series: 20L, 30L, 130AL and stopped there. however, stanford requires 3 quarters of inorganic chem with lab and 3 quarters of organic chem with lab for a total of 6 quarters of lab. i could also include 153AL for an inorganic lab, but i'm still short. should i just tell them that ucla doesn't offer labs for every course? i suppose i could fulfill their requirements but then i'd have to take a lot more classes (not to mention go back to school). thanks.

I think when they say 6 quarters with lab, they refer to schools that have combined lecture and lab courses. I wouldn't worry about explaining because UCLA's "WONDERFUL" chem dept didn't design the courses that way.

phew....finally got the secondary

****....10 days?

Yayyyy... my first screened secondary arrived in my inbox, and it was from Stanford!!

I'm sure I'll be referring to this thread repeatedly over the next 10 days. Good luck to you all!

Hey you guys are all making me wonder here ... I thought Stanford was somewhere in the stratosphere in terms of no one gets in. But you all seem like a pretty diverse bunch and a variety of stats so maybe I would have a chance too. Over in the non-trad thread people kept mentioning Stanford so I feel like maybe I might add them, too.

Hey, you never know. It's funny, someone said to me: "don't apply to Stanford, you'll never get in ... " so I didn't even bother applying. I mean, how stupid is that ?? She was obviously full of **** and while I might not get in, who the heck was she to determine that for me ??? Peer pressure is for the birds ... 😛

Yeah, Paws! Apply! We all know it's a crapshoot, more or less, so it can't hurt to throw yourself into the pool. I mean, they have to accept somebody ... 😀
To those of you who just got secondaries: congrats and good luck! Don't let it bog you down... it's just two essays!

Question?

From the people who got the secondary invitation, how many or what percent do ya'll think will get an interview invite?

It says that 1/5 of secondary applicants will get an invite, somewhere on the web page.

Stanford is just relatively harder to get in b/c of its small size of entering class (about 86 a year), and quite a large proportion is underrepresented minority.

However, just like every other school, it seeks diversity; if you have done something different from the usual premed route, you probably have a higher chance of getting in.

It's just strange to me that Stanford's MCAT ave is only around 33 or so... and only two additional essays on the supplemental app... How do these people select 86 students based on that? I mean, clearly, mcat couldn't be their main focus...

Though stanford's entering class is about 86-90, i heard that MANY MANY MANY seats are reserved for stanford undergrads... GO FIGURE. 😡

Stanford generally accepts about 20 Stanford undergrads...
