I didn't send anything after the waitlist (think that's what we were told?), I did send one "I really like your school and think I'd fit in" email after my interview to both Arturo and Dean Garcia...

I actually didn't know that Stanford rejects post-interview until this Poll/Thread was made. Always thought they did what UCSD does, which is to put people on the alternate/wait list if they're not accepted.

Does anyone know the rough numbers of how many people were interviewed, accepted, on the waitlist, and historically how many got off? I don't know where/how anyone would have this information, but since this is SDN and we're all more or less neurotic pre-meds, figured someone just might have this info...haha. Thanks!

over the course of this thread, we've determined it is extremely variable. last year 50 got off, the year before none.

also - it looks like they're spreading the calls over a couple of days this year, so sit tight!
 
yeah, i should mention that he was in clinic so it sounds like this isn't something he's just doing straight up. but more spreading out. really nice guy.

From the USnews data and info from the admin office:

Interviews about 450 every cycle.

Accepts ~130 Straight away. % Yield is variable.

08-09 Cycle: Accepted 200ish eventually, so around 70 off the waitlist.
07-08 Cycle: Accepted 170ish, so around 40 off the waitlist.

But seriously, just ... relax (harder said than done). I think the general consensus is that there is very little we can do at this pt. If you get off they will call you.

But didn't Dean Garcia respond to your email with a "thank you"? I'm too lazy to go back through this thread to find out if it was you. I never got a response back from him.
 
Yup, he responded, it honestly was very short and I didn't think it meant anything positive...more because I wrote him whereas most just sent to arturo.
 
I think I need to officially bar everyone from calling my phone. Had two random (non-contact list) people call today and I freaked!

No, I don't want a "free" happy hour at Public House.

If I ever get hospitalized in the next few days due to a heart condition, and the docs need to boost my heart rate, they can forgo the drugs and just put my phone next to me...and call....
 
I will miss this thread once this whole process is over. We should get the prize for most epic waitlist thread.

In boredom this evening, I investigated the college at Cambridge I was placed in...(FYI: I'm still most likely not going, regardless of what med school I end up at...but it's so fun to investigate the weird things British people think is cool). It's home to Stephen Hawking (and he apparently comes to most social functions). They also wear robes at formal dinners...which happen, every evening at 7:20 PM.

That stuff is straight out of harry poter. I'm shocked that people still think that sort of formality is "cool".

Feels like we've been waiting for ages. I wonder how 'spread out' the waitlist admits are going to be.

Missed call I think? She called back, talked to Garcia, and was notified of the acceptance.

Everytime my phone rings I jump...only to be disappointed that it isn't an unknown number.

Missed call. Plus my phone is stupid so it takes like 10 minutes for the message to show up, so I called back and was all awkward like "um, hi whoever you are, did you call me". Yes it was Dean Garcia and I believe it was also from a cell phone (okay, it had to have been now that I think of it).

I'm having enormous difficulty being patient too. What are your guys takes on Arturo? Do you think I would gain anything by calling for more information about wait list movement? I want to know how spread out calls are going to be so I know how long I have to wait.

did you ever go back to college confidential after you got into college? granted, I am way way way way way more involved in sdn than I ever was in cc.
 
i didn't know cc existed until fairly recently, but i could see myself returning next year to guide nervous premeds

I think I'll limit it to that: posting occasionally in my school's thread. I know I certainly appreciated gleaming some insider information.
 
Well, Arturo emailed me back.

Waitlist is definitely activated, and Dean Garcia will be giving out calls to students on a rolling basis. That's all he could say at this point.
