OMFG, lol I JUST emailed Arturo 5 seconds ago!! I hope he's not annoyed.

Haha, I'm sure he understands. I guess they don't want to over-call waitlistees and end up more than 86. Whew, rolling basis i guess = spread out? Sigh...more waiting.

Edit: Page 9 Woot Woot

rolling basis sounds good at this point 😀

Arturo responded to my email quickly. He told me the same thing as mdeast. : \

I guess rolling admissions keeps hope alive!

Hey all, I'm new to the thread, and to SDN (yes, only got on here now that I am waitlisted at Stanford)...you guys are a good bunch! 🙂

Anyway...seems as though Garcia is going quite slowly with the WL accepts...only one person added him/herself on the official Facebook Stanford SOM accepted students group...making for a total of 64 students...but hey...that's still 22 spots!!

Anybody else get calls/e-mails back from them?

What exactly did Arturo's e-mail state?

Here's hoping for us all! 🙂🙂

Welcome to the thread and good luck!

So far only one person has posted that she got a spot, and someone else posted on the waitlist movement thread....but nothing so far today.

Also, not to be a debbie downer but I seriously doubt all the kids who are accepted/plan to matriculate are on the facebook group.

Here's the contents of the e-mail:

Dear Naijaba,

Our wait list has been activated for this year. Please make sure your
contact information is updated on AMCAS. Dr. Garcia will contact those
students on a rolling basis. We cannot give you any more details at this
time. Thank you for your continued interest in the Stanford School of
Medicine.

Best regards,
Arturo Herrera

Exact same email as I got. I sometimes wish Stanford was a bit more....warm in their communication. It's weird because they're so nice on interview day, you'd expect the rest of the communication to be the same way.

Anyway...looks like everyone on their mother is trying to get into Stanford this year. So, I'm getting less optimistic about my chances.

yeah just going to have to be patient and let whatever happens happen. hopefully it all shakes out for the better.

Hmmm...I'm still wondering why they are (seemingly) moving so slowly in offering acceptances...and BTW, that FB group has been changed from its original to an "Entering Stanford 2010" group, so those people (65 now) are likely all coming...from all the data we can gather, there are 20+ spots in the class left...

Anyone know of anyone else who got in? Got called?

I think it was always called the entering class of 2010. Anyway, I wouldn't read too much into the facebook group size. Not everyone who gets in has facebook or joins the group, there might be some people from earlier classes who post for housing/answering questions, and there's random fluctuations as some of those people who are entering might leave if they get off a waitlist elsewhere. And I don't think the group will ever hit 86, since these are the facebook group sizes for past 3 years classes: 68, 76, 72

Hmm, this pretty much convinces me the class the full. But, yes, I'm the pessimist.

Yeah, I also think quite a few ppl are waiting to see the financial aid before deciding too. Not sure if that's out.

Didn't they already have to decide? It's past May 15th!

Hm. I'm not sure. I knew a few students from last year that held multiple offers until they found out the financial aid from each school in June.

Hmm, well, this is a rare case so I wouldn't count on it. Most people have committed by now.

Anyway, Stanford Love everyone. 😍

Stay positive, mdeast...for both threads 🙂. In other news, I received my lease for an apartment in Pittsburgh yesterday. Deposit is due June 15th -this will make things 100x more real.

So tough, so tough. We're well past May 15th now! I was just hoping one of my waitlists would come through. 3:1 rule seems to be true...and I'm still holding on to 3! I've decided if I do end up getting in to one place, once I decide to go I'll probably end up withdrawing everywhere else.

I really just need to enjoy the rest of my summer.

I've never heard of the 3:1 rule. Is that if you have 3 waitlists you're bound to get into 1? I'm waitlisted here as well and 4 other schools. I'm hoping one pulls through as well. Best of luck mdeast.

i'm hanging on to 4 as well 😛 haha let's hope for 1! mdeast, i feel like we are waiting on the same places haha minus probably one school.

Yes, I think the old proverb is... "Waitlist times three? One acceptance ye shall see."

Where are you holding out? I'm Stanford, Penn, Cornell. Withdrew from Columbia.

Same -- minus Columbia + UCLA

Wolfie + Beeker = waitlist bros

I do feel bad posting so much on here about other places as if it does somehow degrade my love for Sinai. It's not as if I'm not incredibly excited about living in NYC next year. Quite frankly, I'm just grateful to be going someplace I really like next year in a city I really want to be in. Not everyone gets that option, so we all should be happy with our current choices.

Waitlist movement would be pretty sweet though. Woot Stanford! 🙂

I've got ants in my pants. So there were no calls that we know of yesterday?

Changed my avatar, just for you mdeast haha

I'm holding out for UCSF, UCLA, UCSD, Stanford, Case Western. I like that proverb. Let's hope it comes true for all three of us!
im waitlist bros with St. Jude. Trading UCSF for Vandy.

Hi guys, good news for you all: It looks like Stanford has a pretty brutal finaid option, so I'm most likely withdrawing. That being said, I want to double check a few things, but most likely next week a phone call will go out again w/ my spot for one of you...

thanks for the heads up! where are you likely headed instead?

Probably Mount Sinai. I am also into Cornell, but I like Sinai a lot and its cheaper... Duke could change my mind though if their admissions decides to let a yankee in 🙂

nice - yeah all of those schools are pretty cool. my friend interviewed at sinai and loved it. duke is a pretty awesome place to be too. good luck!

Question 123: What exactly did Garcia say? Did you get an official letter too by now? How long do you have to respond to the WL acceptance? Any other information? THANKS (and congrats on this and on going to Sinai!) 🙂

Sweet. I have a waitlist bro. Funny how you and I have almost identical waitlists.
yeah that's pretty sweet. hopefully it all works out for us. where are you headed otherwise?

I'm not sure exactly what Dean Garcia said but I remember his statement "this is what we call the fat envelope call"... he said I should have my package by today (i'm east coast), and gave me a week after to decide. The financial aid people moved at the speed of light (mostly to tell me I am not getting a dime, but at least they quickly decided that!). I really had hoped stanford had a matching thing...

Good luck guys!

this needs to be over so we can all move on!! I keep re-reading my LOI...super unhealthy thing to do but this is what it's come to...I've lost my mind.

I wish the 3:1 rule always worked! These schools are just so competitive and have pretty high yields. Hang in there guys!

sigh, its official, all wait lists i'm on have started moving and still no word 🙁

trolololololololol hahahahhaha

Killing time for wait list movement is terrible lol

Could it be that Dean Garcia is waiting until Friday to call? Didn't all of the regular acceptances go out on Fridays because (we thought) that the committee met on Thursdays?

Hmmm...good question. Didn't we think that at this stage the WL is basically in Dr. Garcia's hands (versus the committee)? I think we've passed the committee step...I was under the impression that now he sits with a somewhat ranked/preference based list, and he goes through that himself and hand-picks.

Also, seems as though he must have made some offers this week (meaning not waiting until Friday), as over the past 3 days, the FB entering class has exhibited some changes (that's an indication, and not everyone has facebook, etc)..went from 64 to 67...but again, some accepted students may still be waiting on other schools, and if they get pulled off wait lists, they will withdraw...so...hard to tell...waitlist movement at Stanford I hear DOES go until July/August for that reason...

Other thoughts?
