Hey everyone,

My first post on here so I'll give a brief intro since I might be posting more in the upcoming months since I want to apply this application period :xf:

CA student, was pre-med until this the summer of 2012, then  lets switch to pre-vet during my senior year and pursue my childhood dream of being a vet

So I've been feverishly trying to get experience hours during the year and fulfill the requirements all while trying to finish my BS in Bio.

So busy that I didn't realize that vet school admissions (CA ones at least), require physiology and statistics. DERP. So I've pushed my grad date back to this summer and enrolled in physiology (human) and want to take statistics. My problem is that the only open one is introduction to biological statistics during summer session 1. There is regular intro to statistics in summer session 2 but I want this done early so I can submit my applications!

Anyone please give me some advice/feedback? Should I contact the schools directly to make sure that the introduction to biological statistics class fills the pre-req? THANKS!!

you should ask but it should be fine. I applied with a stats that wasn't straight forward(it was like intro to stats or something) and it worked just fine

I don't know about Davis, but Penn specifies "bio stats or math stats" for their statisics class (and I still got in with psych stats, although I suspect that was somewhat of a special case). I definitely second asking the school, but I would be optimistic about it.

in most cases schools allow you to have classes in progress when you apply. Not sure about Davis and Western but you can USUALLY even take classes in spring semester of the year you have applied. If you are tight on hours for experience and can get some going into the fall you might want to wait a little longer anyway. At leaset in the past you could only count hours up until the day you submit your application. I know they are changing the VMCAS this year but that might also be something for you to look at.

I'm a CA resident as well and Davis has noted on their website that they want Statistics 13 or 100. Go to www.assist.org, select UC Davis from the drop down menu then select your school (has to be a CA school) from the next menu. Select Statistics from the "From Department at University of California, Davis" menu and it'll bring up the course equivalencies at your school. If your school doesn't have an equivalent Stats 13 or 100 then you should definitely call or email Davis vet school admissions 👍

Good luck!

Maybe you should ask yourself this: Why would you NOT contact them to verify it? (Hint: Of course you should ask them. It costs you nothing and they don't mind and you'll sleep better at night.)

G'luck!! 🙂
