Stats for George Washington alternate list?

Does anybody know how many people usually get on the alternate list and how many people eventually get accepted from the alternate list for GW?

I just got the letter. Is there a difference between alternate list and waitlist?

Oh btw, I think their interview process sucked. I did REALLY well and my stats are above their average. If i didn't have another acceptance right now I would be really pissed.

I kind of felt the same way about the interview process. I felt like I built a great rapport with both my student and faculty interviewers, and I think I'm above their stats as well.

Then again, I'm on so many waitlists that I completely doubt my ability to evaluate how my interviews went.

I am a GWU undergrad student and also got the 'alternate' list letter today for the SOM. The 'alternate list' is the 'wait list'. I've heard mixed things about calling and asking them where you are on the list. Some people I know who are current SOM students that came off the wait list said that they just kept bugging the admissions office every week.

btw, does anybody know if the waitlist letters this year had the top-priority group separated? I know it's been done in past years.

the "alternate list" is the waitlist. the waitlist isn't ranked, so there's no point in calling to find out where you stand. some people will be told they are at the top of the list, but that is a small group. other than that, i don't think there's anyway to gauge your chances, unfortunately. several of us in our class came off the waitlist - some of us from the top of the list, others from the regular pool. some of us were accepted from the list in mid-may; i know some people who were accepted in june, maybe even july (?). there's still plenty of time. what ever you decide to do to help your chances, it probably should be a bit more tactful than "bugging the admissions office every week." good luck.

i was a full 7 weeks to the day. Feb 6th - Today (altho letter dated 3/21).

GW is actually one of the schools known for not taking (many if any) people off the WL.

I don't think that's true. Maybe some years, but even two years ago when there was very little movement, there was still some movement.

My advice to the waitlistees is not to be shy about your interest in GW if you really want to attend. They like to accept people who truely want to come to GW for med school. Don't give up hope either, it definitely can happen, even if you aren't in the top pool of the waitlist. 🙂

20 or so? and probably a few hundred. those are just educated guesses, though. i wish i could give you guys some more concrete info (i was definitely in your place last year at this time).

neither have I. from last year's gwu waitlist thread, ppl got the second waitlist letter around 3/30...apparently it comes in a large envelope, and either says that you're in a select group at the top of the waitlist, or in the regular waitlist...
