SO, that is why i chose not to apply

Me too. Off to NYC and I pray for the best outcome.

I called! Someone tried to deliver something to me today (I missed a call from my apartment buzzer), and I thought it might be the RCSI package, so I preemptively called them and they confirmed :) Hopefully they aren't wrong!!

Hey,

Can anyone tell me how hard it is to get into Trinity College Dublin? I have good letters of rec and a 3.6 GPA. Is it impossible?

Congrats guys. For those that had interviews with RCSI did you guys send thankyou letters to the people who did the interviews? I have an interview in a couple of weeks and I'm wondering if I should be trying to get the names down properly?

I'm not so sure sending a 'thank you' letter for an acceptance to med school is a wise decision. Sure if you meet them there then best to do it in person but a letter like that is a bit odd.

Also, Accepted to RCSI GEP program. 3.9 gpa (B.Eng, Chemical Engineering), 29 mcat (I've forgotten my letter score...), MASc in Biomedical Engineering. I interviewed in Toronto in early march.

A rather long list of ECs since it's been 5 years since my undergrad.

accepted to RCSI today!
mcat 33R
gpa 3.6
ec - sports, committee execs, community involvement, sports referee, etc.

agreed, a thank you note is not necessary at all - they didn't do anything worth thanking them for

Did you try for schools at home? Your gpa is awfully high and you probably could get your MCAT score higher too

Thanks for the replies. I would agree too. There are a few sites out there that suggest sending a thank you note after the interview. I'm not sure really what they would contain and how sincere they would really be, maybe just to reafirm your interest in the school and program after talking with them.

I had an 8 in verbal reasoning which eliminates basically most ontario schools (11 cutoff for UWO as an example, and even Mac now has 32% of their admissions score based on verbal reasoning which is absolutely inane), and ottawa seems to think 5 years of clinical research, volunteering, and publications isn't a competitive supplemental score.

Lastly, lately one has a better chance getting into Dalhousie with an arts degree, and they hate engineers, so that didn't pan out (I won't know exactly why I didn't get in here until I talk with the Dean of Admission in june). I was in province as well.

Excluding how insane it is going to be to get the specialty I want, I'm happy to go to RCSI.

*edit* having said this, the canadian schools left a bitter taste in my mouth

Sounds like this year's acceptances are in full swing. Congrats on those who've gotten a place; and best of luck to those who haven't heard yet.

If any Canadians have questions about studying in Ireland that they would like answered, feel free to email the Canadian Irish Medical Student Association (CIMSA) at [email protected]. And be sure to check out our website at www.cimsa.ie

CIMSA is a student organization, and as such we don't have any priviledged information about acceptances or grade ranges, and we do not participate in the admissions proccess. However, if you'd like to ask anything about the Colleges, Ireland, academics, housing, student life, or getting back to Canada, we'd love to hear from you.
