Stats of Applicants to Irish schools and Acceptance, Waitlist or Rejection

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hey! I got the same thing on Monday. Contacted ABP and TCD and they were very receptive in providing me with the login. Hope good news comes your way.👍

1st round offer for me at TCD. In my 4th year of BMSc at UWO. Any other Canadians considering accepting it? Any advice for someone that wants (will be) to come back to Canada for residency? Any info on match rates, or how good TCD is? It looks like a great school from what I've been reading on the forums....

Thanks 🙂 Good luck to everyone! Keep your head up - everything works out in the end, one way or another.

I'm a 4th year WLU B.Sc. Health Sciences student! Currently I'm deciding whether to accept it or not from the obvious risk of residency after studying. I have two family friends that go to school at TCD, one in 2nd and the other in 4th year. I will be contacting them this week to pick their brain about these sorts of things and any important info I will definitely post here!

Ya! PM me and let me know please!! I'll pass on the same info -- I'm waiting to hear back from a few family friends that are in Ireland as well. I have a lot of docs in my family and a LOT of their colleagues seem to have kids in Ireland studying medicine, which seems odd - but if they sent their kids there (some right out of high school), they must know how boggled the Canadian system is (there loss right? lol!) Residency is a huge concern for me as well - but I keep going back to the same logic: I can stick it out in Canada, do a 2 year Masters program and still at the end of that not get in and risk not being accepted to Ireland again based on the fact I rejected it this cycle; or go to Ireland and know the degree I'm going to finish with -- and still have the option to continue applying back to Canada while I'm there. Its a toughy, thats for sure....

Haha thanks - I think they only have the 5 year program? But yes, thats the one. I have a 3.9 GPA both in my 3rd and 4th (about 3.5 1st and 2nd year), a lot of clinical ECA and clinical research. I think my diverse experiences, strong references, and my GPA made up for my MCAT - which was average. Yes, I did have everything in by November.

I'm sure you'll hear back soon!! I just found out on Monday and its only Thursday. Honestly, I lost all hope in getting into Ireland. After getting rejection after rejection from Canada and a few in the States, I honestly thought I was going to be doing a Masters program next year. (I was actually about to board a plane to an interview out West for a Masters program when I found out). So good things can happen to you when you least expect it - keep truckin 🙂

Great GPA and ECs! Which Canadian/US Med schools did you apply/interview with those stats? I applied in Ontario and got an interview at NOSM, then applied late to the 6 Irish schools (first week Jan), both 5 year and GEP (I sometimes forget which schools offer which programs). I think since I applied late, and that I'm not writing MCAT until end of April are why I haven't heard back from a single Irish school yet (not even interview). Ideally I would like to go to NOSM but out of the Irish schools I like TCD, that's why I was so interested to see a Canadian applicant get acceptance there. I have a Masters in biochem lined up but I reeeally couldn't stand another couples years of research.
Well thanks for the info and support and maybe we will be in the same class! 😛

Conditions online: "3.3 (unweighted) for final High School transcript." Conditions in email: "3.3 cumulative in final transcript" (or something along the lines of that). Does this mean that you must maintain a 3.3 in your final year (so fourth year) or a 3.3 average between 4 years?

Congrats all!

Definitely a toughy! I had the same thoughts as you about 2 years ago! But after doing a masters program, I think I'm ready to go abroad. I may be overly optimistic thinking that well if I can't come back to Canada there's always the US or Australia, New Zealand, or other places in Europe, but I don't want to risk waiting for another year of being rejected from a Canadian school.

The physical letter with my RCSI rejection arrived today, 4/13. I am in the NYC suburbs for those who might want to check their mailboxes.

Have you tried the Caribbean medical schools, such as Ross or St George's? You do two years at the Caribbean and then two years of clinical in the US. This might be an earlier route to residency program in North America.

It depends on how many people accept their first round of offers. Currently there are at least 20 people who have accepted the first round of offers that we know of (I got in and we have a FB group for the 4 year GEP group). There are only 30 GEP spots for NA students, so that means maximum 10 spots for that group left. Not sure about the 5 or 6 year programs...

SJLIM- If I am not accepted at any Irish schools this year, I'll be attending a post-bacc premed program to finish courses i need to take the MCAT (orgo and physics) I'm also doing neuroscience research. I'll be reapplying starting june 2014 to US allopathic schools, both MD and MD/PhD programs(within the contiguous 48 only), Irish schools and perhaps Canadian and Australian schools. I hope to be accepted to one or more of the SUNY schools (Upstate, Buffalo, Downstate, Stony Brook) as I am a NY resident and SUNY graduate.

Thanks, dude. I hope the same for you, I'm sure we'll all do fine.

Hello everybody,
I was just wondering if anyone applied to NIUG ,TRINITY or UCS before January deadline and got any reply.
I really appreciate your reply ASAP

I applied in February and still haven't heard anything!

Do you think that late applicants have a lower chance of getting an offer?

This is the same situation I'm in and I do think we are put at a disadvantage. Can only wait and hope at this point!

can you please share your stats,I am in grade 12,what about you?

I posted them a while ago but here we go again:

I'm finishing up a combined honours bachelor of science in biochem & molecular biol with 3.45 GPA from prestigious Canadian uni. No MCAT yet but writing it April 26th. ECs are 2 varsity teams one of which I was president, paid clinical experience with direct patient contact, over a year of research experience, tutor for ESL and peer mentor, many others.
Applied: All Irish school and NOSM
Interviews: only NOSM
Rejects/Acceptances: None yet

Applied late to Ireland (mid Jan) and my first choice is NOSM (hear back May 14th)

I think you have pretty good chances getting in as your stats are much better than couple of my friends who got accepted (they are both in high school)and the funny thing is that one of them rejected the offer with fears of not getting a residency after finishing so ya good luck dude it's just a matter of time .did you apply for 4 or 5 years and what is NOMS

NOSM stands for Northern Ontario School of Medicine. It's the newest Canadian medical school and has 2 campuses but only accepts a total of 64 students. Out of 2000 applicants, there were only 320 interviewed so I feel pretty happy about that and I think the interview itself went well.

As for Ireland, I applied to 5 year at TCD and NUIG and 4 year at all others.

Got a rejection letter today from RCSI GEP in the mail...did not get invite to interview
Undergrad GPA ~ 3.0 overall (3.8 in last 2 years), MSc in Anatomy (GPA 3.95) with multiple scholarships throughout the program & award for graduating top of my class.
MCAT P8 V9 B10 writing R (27R).
Some of my ECs include 4 peer-reviewed publications (cardiac surgery), presenting at multiple national and international conferences, 2+ years clinical research (1 year paid), 2 years as a graduate teaching assistant at local med school, department rep for charity committee, 200+ hours clinical volunteering including patient contact, medical missions overseas, 4+ years volunteering at a nursing home, excellent references.

Invited for UL interview and haven't heard anything back from UCC or UCD

I would have thought I'd at least get an interview from RCSI. But I have received a rejection from them, no word form any of the other schools. I believed my stats were up to par.

Thembert and Kelliot12, what do you think? We three seem to be a cohort of similar background.

Wow. Your GPA is really impressive as are your ECs. And no love from North America? (Are you Canadian? Mac seems to love Masters students) Best of luck with the others - you'd think someone with a Masters degree would be put above those in younger years of undergrad simply based on your academic experience and maturity (no offense to others). That wouldn't happen to be the Clinical Anatomy program at UWO or Queen's would it?

Keep your head up!

I just got my rejection to RCSI through the mail. It wasn't my first choice anyway so I'm not that discouraged. Still have my UL interview this Friday. Other than that I haven't heard back from any other school. So should I assume all first round acceptances were given out for all other 4-5 yr schools?

LSP2000: In regards to TCD, NUIG, UCD and RCSI, yes. I don't know about UCC or UL, but have seen UCC acceptances on the forum.

Well I don't expect to hear from UL till after the interview haha. I guess I'll wait to see if any other rejections roll in otherwise I guess wait. Thanks OfflinePK for letting me know.

I agree- I just wish us all the best of luck!

Thanks! ZERO love from Canada because when I say my GPA was ~3.0 I mean it was 2.9 which does not get rounded up and basically excludes me from all but UWO, but my MCAT scores took care of that...and yes I did the Clinical Anatomy program at UWO.
Honestly not that bummed about the rejections...I have a number of friends going through the Irish system who have not had great experiences with RCSI, plus the $$ is a little insane.

Hi,

I was told by ABP that UCC will have second round offers going out in late April.

Has anyone who interviewed in Toronto for UL heard back yet? The day I interviewed, everyone said we'd hear back on Tuesday (yesterday) because a rep that was there told them so. I don't know if the rep was from UL or ABP. Considering it hasn't even been a week it seemed too early to hear back. But, nonetheless still curious if anyone has heard anything as of yet.

I interviewed Saturday and we were told we would get an email either Tuesday or Wednesday...I didn't get anything yesterday so it should be today sometime.
Best of luck to everyone!

No I don't think anyone's heard back yet (at least I haven't). I heard Tuesday too at the interview but other people have been saying today, or for sure this week sometime. There's discussion about it in the UL interview thread. The suspense is killing me though haha!

I interviewed in Toronto and got an offer from UL about 10 minutes ago through email!

Has anyone heard anything from the dental schools? Last I checked with ABP they said that UCC first round had gone out and Trinity would be sending a small first round this week.

Hi everyone!

I just wanted to say good luck to everyone still waiting for news. I also wanted to know if there were any others who are planning on attending UCD in the fall?

EmmalinA
Do you know if the second round of letters for UCD went out??? Or were you accepted initially

I'm not sure if the second round offers have gone out yet. I received my offer in late March! I was just hoping to connect with any other US students who were going as I'm trying to sort out the financial aid and was wondering if anyone else is going through the same thing!

I just received an email invitation for an online interview for RCSI-Bahrain's 6 year program! Do you guys have any advice as far as interview questions?

UCD GEM acceptance received today via FedEx! Dated April 30th.

Does anybody know if there is a Facebook group for the class of 2017?

EDIT:

For future reference, the fees for graduate entry medicine 2013-2014 are as follows:

University of Limerick
