Hi. I had a question about Step 2 CK score reporting delay. I'm planning to take CK in August.

This is what ECFMG says in its website:
"The USMLE program usually reports Step 2 Clinical Knowledge (CK) scores within four weeks of testing. However, because of necessary modifications to the test item pool, there will be a delay in reporting for some examinees who test between the week of July 13 through late August. The target date for reporting Step 2 CK scores for most examinees who test during this time period will be Wednesday, September 16, 2015.

If you need to receive a Step 2 CK score before September 16, we recommend that you take Step 2 CK no later than Friday, July 10, 2015."

1. Does this mean, regardless of the date I take CK in August (either August 7 or August 28), the results will be out only on September 16?

2. Any idea what exactly they mean by "late August"? Does August 28 count as late August?

I know only ECFMG would know this specifically, but if someone who went through the same problem before (last year or the years before) could answer this, that would be very helpful.

Thanks!

It says "there will be a delay in reporting for some examinees".

My understanding is that most people's score should be out in the usual 3-4 Wednesdays time frame but some will by delayed. For people that ARE delayed, their target date is Sept 16 at the latest it seems. I know a couple people who took their CK after last years "delay date" (around July 27 or so, much later than this years, damn them) and they still received their scores in the usual time frame.

In the case that we are delayed...September 16 is one day after the apps open, so I doubt it will much of a problem at all anyways. I doubt any programs are screening out Step 2 CK already at this point (even for IMGs), especially without the MSPE letters being released yet. I figure the real screening will start October 1 when the MSPEs are released.

If people from last year could chime in, would be helpful!

Depends on the specialty. I'm in Peds and received multiple interviews prior to the MSPE's being released. Some programs won't look at applications until after that point, but there are others who start screening as soon as they get applications.

That said, I still don't think not having a Step 2 score on the first day will kill you, especially if you predict it will show up on the second day. You just have to be vigilant and resubmit your USMLE transcript once you get your score.

The OP is an IMG so things may be a bit different (or not) in his case. That said, a one day (or one week) difference in the date you release your scores, is irrelevant, at least at the beginning of the season.

Okay. Thank you.

So I am also in the delayed reporting category for CK. I am debating whether I should apply to ERAS on Sept 15 without my Step 2 CK, then resend my USMLE transcript the following day. Or just wait until Sept 16 when I receive my CK scores, and send everything off together? I am a US-IMG, and I've heard it's better to have both your Step 1 and Step 2 when you apply as an IMG. HELP PLEASE! Thanks!

I should have probably also mentioned that I blew it with my Step 1 score last year - 210. 🙁 So I was thinking I didn't want any PD's to see my app without my improved CK score next to that crappy Step 1 number. Is having a complete app worth applying one day late? Or is it more important to have an early incomplete app?

Thanks for the reply, btw!

At this rate, tomorrow will be the earliest you can submit anyways...

Hi! Yes, I received my score on Sept 16 around 10am! Did you take it right at the end of August? Yours might be here in one more week?
