actually, that's a pretty common thing to do for even real schools. Eastern Michigan University has a few billboards in the state that show pics of "students" which happen to be the exact same pictures of "students" used at another school in the state.

yeah- ive seen it done before too for advertisements and such. i was just hoping that they didn't actually coerce a few sorry souls to pay them and think that they are actually going to medical school. I've also seen ridiculous ads for this place in my school's newspaper. (http://www.dailybruin.ucla.edu/advertising/textads/stewart_university_110206/)

Well, I can't blame them for it. EMU is about the last place in Michigan I would consider for undergrad (other than Wayne State). :laugh: If your school don't have anything to brag about.....make stuff up.

Yeah, I was kinda confused by that...in season 1 it was mentioned that House and Cuddy were together at UMich at some point, and obviously House is older, but then they said he went to Hopkins med...I'll put it as House did his residency at UMich, still attaching him to my beloved school 😍

Hey, don't knock Chancellor Stewart and his entire extended family. They were good enough to graciously sit on the entire board of directors, thus saving them from searching for board members as well as faculty. Cost-efficiency!

I've spoken with Chanellor Stewart. He seems very sincere in his desire and commitment to the concept of opening a new medical school, improving on the curriculum offered by the foreign medical schools, recruiting a cadre of rather well qualified faculty, providing an exceptional educational experience, and ultimately pursuing WASC and LCME accreditation. Maybe not all of the pieces are in the right place just yet. But, this kind of undertaking is quite daunting. I rather doubt any of the foreign medical schools were in better shape when they originally opened the doors for their first medical students.

I would suggest we give SU-SOM a break. We should take a wait and see position. If Sewart has the right people, organization, and financing - then this may become the most attractive alternative to foreign medical school.

While there may be good reason for many potential students to wait until there is better evidence of the potential and viability of this new school - there is no good reason to impugn or malign the character of an individual who served our country with honor and integrity - and who is trying to provide an opportunity for similarly committed individuals to obtain a fine medical education withouyt having to leave the country.

I don't see anyone else trying to break the strangle hold vested interests have in so tightly controlling the availability of medical education that many potentially well qualified physician candidates cannot get into a domestic medical school. Give the man a chance to prove the integrity of his vision.

you know what... sure, if this lasts longer than a couple semesters, I think it might turn out to be a viable option for some... this is just weird, though... I have no idea what is going on here... there are people throwing out personal attacks at this guy, and he seems to actually think he's legitimate? 😕

"A facility, a curriculum, and a faculty" is what is required to be accredited according to the movie and BB.
I think SU is a hoax because you just can't find any official records on it. Sure, they posted ads in papers costing $$$$$$$ but that's one expensive hoax--heck, I'm starting to be impressed🙂 :laugh: :laugh: :laugh:
 
I asked Chancellor Stewart the hard questions: location, point of contact, company name to check legality, then the guy insults me. So, I'm wondering how many other people he insulted. And of those, I'm betting a lot don't know about SDN. Why does Chancellor Stewart lie about holding classes on a military installation???
Repeat: SU believes that since they are incorporated by an offshore agency, accredited by a foreign medical school, then they don't need permission of any US agency to teach classes in the US. Doesn't something seem strange about that??? That's saying any foreign gov't/school can set up school in the US, then use the back door of "since the medical school is recognized by FAIMER" to get the FMG certified by ECFMG to take the USMLE.😀 That's smooth😎 But is it legal? Will it work?
 
If you download the application to become a faculy member at his school you need to provide you social security number. I am no expert on this matter but why would a ss number be needed if it is an offshore company? Reason.... he is going to steal your ss number!!!!

One requests SSAN on job applications to help in checking references. There are easier ways to obtain social security numbers than offering employment or setting up a school. For example, just login at UCLA to download several hundred thousand SSAN's for former students, staff, and faculty.

I suspect we will see an unfortunate story unfold. Bill's position seems to me to be highly risky: He proposes to evade state regulators, regional and national accrediting agencies, and potential federal enforcement action - by employing armed military police (whether foreign military to defend foreign territory - or US MP's to defend "federal land") to evade regulatory authority.

Then after evading medical education regulators - he proposes to apply to those same regulators for state (CA BPPVE), regional (WASC), and national accreditation (LCME) accreditation - where he will receive an exceedingly cold reception.

The core concept is interesting - threaten to run a foreign medical school on consular territory - inside the United States - to pressure state, regional, and national accreditation authorities to approve a new domestic medical school. Or, actually operate a foreign medical school on consular property in the US. Legally a bit thin - but colorable under international law - and potentially justifiable as a form of cultural exchange.

Personally, as much as I want to go to medical school, I would wait to see whether SU-SOM provides better evidence that it can succeed before even considering applying to this school. I sincerely worry about the future of students who attend this school.

What leaves me concerned about the wisdom (much less coherence) of Bill's approach - is reliance on armed military officers (whether US or foreign military) - to "defend" his school's territory against regulators. While potentially consistent with his family's tradition (and his own training) in defending territory of national interest - the defense of Bill's medical school is not worth threatening or taking anyone's life.

This element of Bill's approach appears to go well beyond visionary - it might even be psychotic.

As of today, Stewart University isn't listed on FAIMER. So unless the Chancellor is quietly greasing some palms, any January enrollees won't be attending a school recognized for FMG placement into the US allo match.

Plus, if you're a Ponzi scheme fan, you'll love that the monthly salary for the professors is exactly equal to the one semester of tuition that has to be paid to learn the secret location of your classes. The next communique will probably demand the recruitment of five additional students before revealing class dates and times.

On the bright side, 999 other students is going to make for a great group of classmates. 😀

I really wish Bill's efforts appeared more feasible. I know a lot of very well qualified people who would apply, attend, and (yes really) even teach for a credible new medical school. But, they're all headed for Caribean schools, Europe (for EU nationals), and/or UAG. The rest of us who are stuck in LA have given up on medical school.

I could even bring him investors with 10's of millions of dollars - not 100's of millions of dollars he says he has. But, they would insist on a Chancellor, Deans, Provost, Registrar, and faculty possessing good solid credentials and experience, a complete curriculum, syllabi, adequate academic oversight, politically correct approachs to state, regional, and national accreditating organizatiuons, a verifiable for profit or nonprofit corporation, an independent board, and no BS (double entendre intended) tending to bring doubt and/or disrepute to the medical school they are funding.

No one is going to invest in an institution that will be sued for all it is worth once Bill's military guards start pointing guns and shooting at whoever he designates an unauthorized visitors.

The idea is enticing, but the execution sucks, and BS is the wrong person.

No doubt we will see the fallout in the evening news - perhaps 60 minutes.

This school is very real and those who ridicule it on this website indanger this website of a serious lawsuit for their violation of the terms of use of this website. I know the qualifications of the instructors at Stewart University School of Medicine and they are very good.
 
Stewart University School of Medicine is at least as good as the University of Michigan Medical School. I have seen many medical schools and from experience I can tell you that you should apply to this school if you want a good solid medical education.

I suppose the person who thought that engram1 was the Chancellor of Stewart University School of Medicine, and who violated the terms of use of this website by calling Stewart University School of Medicine a rip off is a spoiled rich kid, who never had his butt kicked. Perhaps it is about time for someone to kick his butt!! or may bloody his nose. If he ran his mouth that way in any bar, he wouldn't be standing very long, as most people in bars don't put up with it.

It's Vietnamese. No offense taken... I have various relatives with names like Dang, Bich, and Phuc. Languages can be funny like that. That's why I have a nice English alternative name.

That essay made me cringe/die a little, for a multitude of reasons. Not to mention the fact that, on a practical level, it's highly questionable for a med school to publicly post its students admissions essays in the first place. But that's the least of its problems.

I wrestled on my college varsity team for two years. I definatly have gotten the sh** kicked out of me plenty of times. I probably get a bloody nose at least 3 times a week (when I wrestled) so I had to get those white thingies put up my nose to stop the bleeeding (if you wrestled you know what I am talking about). I don't go to bars so that makes your second point false. Finally, I am a rich spoiled kid so you are right on that point. 1/3 is good!
