I was just asked to interview! For those of you that already interviewed how many people were at your interview session? Is Stony Brook the type of school where if you have an interview you have a good chance or is it still competitive at the interview stage? Thanks!
When I deferred my interview to March from January, the person said that there are fewer spots to fill, so it is more competitive.

@jkr566 Congrats! I think they have about 18 ppl at each interview session. When's your interview?

My interview is on March 4th! And thanks for the info! Do you remember some of the questions they asked at the interview?

The best thing you can do is compile a list of standard OT interview questions and practice your responses. Reread your essay and any observation notes you may have taken. And, spend some more time reading/rereading about OT. If you do that, you should be fine. My interview wasn't bad because I was prepared. I didn't have any questions I didn't have an answer for because I had done the above. Plus, everyone (faculty and students) was really nice, so that helped ease my nerves. Good luck!

I really liked the school and everyone was really nice but I felt that the interview questions were tricky. I stumbled a lot and didn't really know what to say for some questions but hopefully they'll be able to look past that.

I'm sure you did fine !

What type of questions?

Also, around how many students were at the interviews for your sessions?

OpOT, you were at the interview Jan 22nd right? I was at the morning session (and had similar feelings about the interview as jkr556), when did you hear back about your acceptance? And how did they contact you? It's scaring me that I still haven't heard anything back

@futureOT2094 I was at the same session as you! Dr Rodriquez called me the Tuesday after with the acceptance. Then, I received something in writing a few days later.

Congrats! I wonder why I haven't heard back yet  my friend who's currently in the program said they took a while to let some people know, but it's been a month and a half without a word. SBU is my first choice and I'll be devestated if I don't get in

I was in the afternoon session and much like @kgprospot , I heard that following Tuesday as well. I had a phone call from Dr.Rodriguez at around 11 am or noon and I received an official email and mailing later on that week.

Has anyone heard from SBU lately?

I haven't heard anything since the acceptance. I really hope to get more info soon.

Are you waiting for an answer from them, or were accepted and waiting on more info about enrolling?

I was invited to interview again after having to defer my January one - and it is, once again, on a day that I can't attend. I also never got my 2nd OT LOR Gonna chalk this one up as a no-go....

When did they invite you to interview? I'm trying to figure out when they're done with interviews so I can gauge when I'll finalllyyyyyy hear back lol

Does anyone have any idea of how filled the class is?

Has anyone who has been accepted heard anything about a deposit to reserve your spot? I received all of the initial acceptance info and have accepted the offer but there was nothing said about a deposit. I find that hard to believe, but that would be great!

@doOT16 Congrats! Which campus? I'll be at Southampton. I also have not received deposit info. And I think I read on one of the new student pages that grad students don't put a deposit. Seems weird, but totally fine by me. I'll try to find that page.

Found it! If you go to the acceptance email, there's a link to the new student quick guide. It brings you to the Health Sciences Office of Student Services webpage. If you scroll down to Quick Guide for Admitted Students and click on Orientation, Registration, and Billing, you'll end up on the page that says grad students are not required to pay a tuition deposit. (I guess that's why we have not been asked. I hope I am not wrong!)

They sent me the email a couple days ago, but they also included that it is the last interview session for admissions. Good luck!

I am waiting for an answer from them! 😀

I was at the January 22nd interview! The morning session! THE WAIT IS KILLING ME TOO! have you called yet? I called the other day and left a message but they haven't gotten back to me. I was thinking of calling tomorrow. I forgot what they said to us after out interview? Do we wait max 6 weeks?

i was also at the morning session! i haven't called, i thought about calling yesterday but i chickened out lol. After my interview when we sat down with Dr. Rodriguez i asked about when i could expect to hear back and she didn't give me an exact timeframe, but she did say in past years it was within a few weeks... soooo im really losing my mind. but my friend is currently in the program and she said it took a while for some of her friends to hear back, so its not completely abnormal.

I'm going out of my mind! I was the crazy asian girl who wouldn't stop talking and doing the finger guns lmao. I wish us luck!

Awesome, thanks! I will also be at Southampton campus. So excited! Do you know if there is a facebook group or anything set up yet??

Same here; I cannot wait to get started and to meet everyone in our class!! I haven't heard or seen anything about a Facebook group, but I also have to admit that I am not on Facebook anymore. Looking forward to meeting in June!!

Has anyone heard anything?

I'm just decided to attend VCUs program instead so I withdrew my app. Hopefully this lets up a spot from the wait list!

I haven't, but I spoke to Dr Rodriquez earlier this week and she told me the admissions committee was meeting this week- so I'm hoping we'll have an answer soon

Congrats on your acceptance to VCU!!!

Just got a call that I was accepted to the Southhampton campus!!

@jkr566 Congrats!! I interviewed the same day, we spoke about these forums! I'm so nervous now that you've heard, I haven't heard anything from them yet. I finally caved and made an account. @OTSeeker1 any word yet?

Nothing yet! I called and they said I should hear back in two weeks! She was super nice though 🙂

@kgprospot I am most likely going to accept! And @LIOTJH haha yes I remember! I'm sure they haven't given out all the acceptances yet so hopefully you will hear soon.

Hey everyone, I got accepted into Stony Brook Southampton as well. Where is everyone commuting from? I'm coming from Nassau county. I am so very thankful for the acceptance but am a little worried about commuting because living out there really isn't an option for me. I was hoping to get into SBU's main campus as I commute to and from there now and am used to the drive

@cnfot94 congrats! I live about 40 mins from southampton campus. I am mostly worried about the summer commute...

I live in Suffolk County but pretty close to Nassau. I also preferred the Stony Brook campus but was placed at Southampton. I live about 50 miles from the campus so it'll be around a 50-55 minute drive. Moving is also not an option for me and the thought of the commute is somewhat stressful, but I think it will be an easy drive because there shouldn't be too much traffic in that direction.

Thanks so much! Yeah 40 min is about what I am at now from stony brook (main campus)... And I don't find it to be that terrible especially bc you are going in the opposite direction but yes I'm thinking the summer might be more

I am right on the border between Nassau and Suffolk it is about 60 miles from my house and with no traffic google maps tells me 1 hour ... Eva said a lot of people commute from around here so I know it's totally doable I just hope I'm not a zombie

Hi all! First off, congrats to everyone that has been accepted to SBU so far and good luck to those still waiting to hear! I was accepted to Stony Brook campus back in December and have been waiting to hear about what our next steps would be. I'm especially worried about when I should start taking the steps for student loans. I figure that we won't hear much else until they complete all of their interviews, and I know that the last round of interviews are in March. Does anyone know when they are? I am soo excited to start school in June and meet all of you!!

I was at the March 4th morning interview session and I got the call last Thursday that I was accepted to the Southampton campus! Anyone that heard back last week - have you received the email/letter yet?

@jbOT2019 so the last round of interviews was this past Friday (March 18th) ... I would assume we will all get a notice when everyone has been called/accepted?

@nyOT2016 I was at the March 4th one as well and got a call last Wednesday the 16th and have not gotten an e mail or official letter yet she just said I would hear from them soon.

For those who haven't heard back yet... I applied to 3 schools and only got accepted to Stony Brook... I also know people who interviewed in previous years in late March and got accepted or got put on the wait list and then as people accept or deny the offer they start calling the wait list... So just be positive. My plan if I didn't get accepted was to retake 1 or 2 classes to raise my GPA, and work for a year to save money, and re-apply. Now that you know the process, you can submit your application earlier and get interviews by December or so which is not too far away!

I interviewed back in December and I still haven't heard anything. I'm really hoping to get in here, it's my top choice school (either campus). Does anyone know more specifically when they will be notifying people?

Well I think that since the last interviews were Friday it's going to be maybe another 10 days to 2 weeks before they can sit down with all the applicants and decide but that's just a broad guess. I emailed dr Rodriguez and she was quick to email me back. Just be honest and tell her your concern
