It's not like medical school where you're constantly studying for exams. In Ortho residency we only take one exam every year (OITE, an annual standardized test) but fellowships don't see the scores so its really more for you to see how you're progressing with your knowledge.
Studying in residency is different, there's not really any deadlines so you're studying to review for upcoming surgeries, to learn more about an interesting consult or to keep up with whatever rotation you're on.
Our program uses the Orthobullets.com curriculum so we get daily assigned reading topics which help to keep you up to date on the high yield Ortho knowledge.
Great question though, if you have any more questions feel free to DM our residency page
