Studying time

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
So far it seems like peeps aren't studying that much. I was all gung ho for the first week, but haven't studied in a week bc of a buncha other crap. I'm ramping up again this week. I studied for about three hours yesterday, and probably shoot for about that ea day during the week. That's waaay more than other peeps that i know.

SC i think tries to keep the load pretty sensible the first year. They're so da$n into meetings and seminars that they want you to go to that there isn't a lot of time.

They have at least two seminars each day. Yesterday the Director of the UCI Medical Center Jody Jacobsen came and gave a talk about residencies. A Pharmacist that runs the entire med center!! She talked about getting surgeons to comply with drug innovations, etc. Pretty impressive. Moreover, she only has a BS in pharmacy. The seminars are definitely worth it.

SC goes above and beyond to generate an impressive environment. It's cool.

Not to say that all of these guys are out for the beneficence of mankind. A lot are doing it for the dough, but at the same time the by-product of their motives is improving care. I can't really question that.

I dunno about UOP. Personally I hardly study but again I'm not doing that great at school. Alot of people are too zealous about pharmacy school and are at the library and then study at home till 2-4 in the morning.

it really depends o if i have a quiz or test.. coming up.. but so fars it about 3-4 hours a day... but bio, biochem tests are coming..and we start pchem in 2 weeks.. so i thinks it going to change soon..

I study every day and every night and still feel like I am behind. I didn't think the load would be so bad when I looked at the credit hours. For instance, Med Chem is only a 1 credit hour course, but there are 4 hours of lecture each week. The class is over on Sept 29th. We had our first exam last week and our last exam on the 29th. At least the final is optional.

We have weekly quizzes in the pathophysiology class. There are only 5 tests during the semester with a cumulative final (non-optional). The first test was very difficult. I walked in knowing the material inside out, but I still don't think I aced the test. The questions were worded oddly to try and trick you, instead of testing your knowledge. Also, you must write down everything that a lecturer says, because there were questions on things that they just mentioned in passing. At the time, you just think that they are giving you some interesting trivia.

Clinical Biochem is not so bad, but other people are struggling. UF didn't require biochem as a prereq, which they should have. Almost everyone is confused and there is an exam on Monday. I'm glad I took biochem & molecular genetics as an undergrad or I'd be lost.

The non-science classes are easy, but time consuming. We also have presentations to make for the science classes as well as the non-science classes. We were randomly put into groups on Wednesday for a project that is due for presentation on Tuesday. It didn't matter that we have 2 tests and 2 quizzes in that time period and they assigned students to the same group who live 2 hours apart. This takes away from study time.

Last semester as an undergrad, I took 21 credit hours - all sciences with labs. So far, the first year of pharmacy school makes that seem like a piece of cake.
