Sullivan University Anyone?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Got this email today, thought I would post it here since 2013 has their own closed facebook group too.

Good afternoon, Ladies and Gentlemen:
It has come to the attention of the Office of Student Affairs that SUCOP students have initiated a closed Face Book page with the name and logo of the College of Pharmacy. As it is a closed Face Book, SUCOP cannot take responsibility for any content therein or actions of participants . Therefore, the name and logo of the College of Pharmacy must be removed by tomorrow, Tuesday, October 27, 2009 at 5:00 pm.
Thank you for your cooperation in this important matter

I'm not really sure. I think their concern was that they can't monitor the group, but the group was using their name and image. I assume an open group would be fine, 2012 has an open and a closed group and they never complained about our open group.

I never thought the school would care.........i mean facebook should be personal....it doesnt make sense if the school requires the SUCOP students to have their facebook be opened to public.

Read that message again. He's talking about using their Sullivan logo. When you use their logo, you represent them and they don't want to be represented by something (or someone) they cannot monitor. Take their logo off.

Well it's name and logo. Its kinda hard to have a group for sullivan students without using their name (well not hard, but wierd since the group name generally appears on your profile) You could either have everyone join a group with a random name or open it to the public so SUCOP can make sure their name isn't being used as some sort of underground terrorist operation.

Has anyone looked into apartments yet? I'm thinking about going over Thanksgiving Break or Christmas Break to check it out....

After the apartment search, then its on to finding the roommate, so if anyone is interested.....let me know. (Pref looking for another female, lol) 👍

Also, anyone get their letters today? I know a few the previous posters are anxiously awaiting....

EDIT: What banks are the most popular in Louisville? I use a local bank, and I'm going to need to switch to something more universal.

I got in to uc berkeley post bac today lol but no word from sullivan university yet

1) Will opening this group to the public destroys the purpose of the group?
2) If an "Office of Student Affairs" person joins the group, will this make the group transparent, semi-opened?
3) Will creating another group destroys the purpose of the group?

We can ask Office of Student Affairs for opinion on option #2. OR we can combine option #1 & #3, which is to expose the group to the public (so the name & logo display), and then leaves a link to the closed group that only the class can access. :meanie:

I had an interview on 10/15 and expected my letter this week. I was anxious and called Paige today. She told me the committee hasn't met yet but will Friday. Just figured I would let those waiting know...

Biostat
OchemII (retaking to replace grade)
A&P II
and another class or two 😀

if you fail those then you have to give up your seat? if you got accepted why bother retaking ochem ii?

It is crazy to think I'll be done with undergrad in a few months.

Nice classes. Enjoy that Gene Structure & Function, Tristan! 😛

Plenty of 5/3 & PNC Banks. If you want something more regional, I hear good things with Stock Yards Bank.

I just found my study partner. 😀

Good luck with the classes amigo.

In what format did you interpret your Pcat score on the admission application?

😕

I'm currently taking biostats at UofL. I had already taken stats, but I thought biostats would be an opportunity to see how stats can apply to biological studies. Wrong! In my class, the only time you see biology is in the questions on the test. It makes for interesting deduction work to see if you can figure out which distribution you are suppose to be using. Still learning a lot more than I learned in my first stats class though.

You look to be very prepared 👍

Thanks Miles 🙂 I'm currently in genetics, but I am particularly interested in pharmacogenomics and figure that another genetics class would be helpful for that down the road.

Ha! I have to get in first 😛 But pending I am accepted, that would be cool as long as you help me when biochem comes along.

I wrote my composite score.

Hey, I heard pharmacists, PA only make around 75-100 K. Dentists make around 89-120 K. MD 120-250 K. RN 65-100 K. Pharmacists, PA, and RN are in the same range of salary. 😱

Just curious if this had been asked and answered already..

What is Sullivans Board pass rate? We are looking at Sullivan and UK, since we live in ky and UK is boasting a 100% pass rate.

Also, We like the idea of 3 years v. 4 years but is there any sort of stigma in the Pharmacist Community based upon the school that they greaduate from?

Reason I ask is that with Laywers, going to Harvard, Yale and Stanford is it. Going anywhere else is considered sub-par even though there are tons of excellent schools that provide the same education.

The Sullivan first class will be done in 2011 so we will see. The NAPLEX passing rate depends on the students performances. It doesn't matter if you go to the top pharm schools. If you take pharm school seriously, then you shouldnt have a problem passing the NAPLEX.

Pharmacists start at 75-100K+ and that is for 40 hours. You won't be a RN working 40 hours making 100K unless you are a nurse anesthetist or you are traveling all the time. At least the nurses I know don't make that kind of money. I figure I can make a good living and still not miss my family. There are tons of career opportunities with the PharmD degree which makes it very attractive to me, also adding "Dr." instead of "Mr." makes it all worth while.

MD's can't walk away from their practice, Dentists make what their practices allow.

40 hour work weeks making $100K+ works just fine for me.

I am not sure if pharmacists could make 100K+ maybe pharmacists with 20 yrs exp? I don't think pharmacists will get the title Dr. ...People just called pharmacists based on their names. This sucks! I think nurse practioner are higher ranking than pharmacists because they could write prescriptions. Here is the order of ranking: MD>Vet>Dentist>PA>NP>Pharmacist

It all depends on where you work, and how desperately they need pharmacists. Louisville, and KY in general really need pharmacists, so if you are like me, and planning to stay in that area after graduation, you should have no problem finding a great paying job (100+K a year). On the other hand, I know some MD's that make less money than pharmacists up here. It's strange, but if they don't specialize then they become one of the lower ones too.

Anyway, Pay doesn't matter. It's a nice perk, but def not why I'm in for the long haul.

 are you a Confucius follower? here is my quote "Choose a job you love, and you have to work for the rest of your life." LegitPharmacist

I don't think people could love a specific profession before they experience it. For example, people could be MDs but after awhile they realized they hated it.

Amen brother. My father told me that 10 years ago and I should have listened then. He is right.

The city of Louisville has higher pharmacist wages than Indy, Cinci, and Nashville, according to a salary survey in Business First. I know when I was talking to a local hospital, they told me their new pharmacists are starting around $110K....this year. I confirmed that with a new pharmacist that was just starting and she said her salary was six figures. In fact, the pay range for this hospital is from a min of $95K to $135K. Not sure where you are getting your numbers from, but I wouldn't trust the job search engines salary reports.

I got it from http://www.payscale.com/research/US/Job=Pharmacist/Salary. I don't know if it is accurate or not. I want to make 100K+😀

FYI, I've heard that FL and NY pharmacist could write presciptions already (with addtional training and certification of course).

I did. She said they received but just have not processed it yet. 🙁

I get so happy when pharmacy school personnel answer my emails. lol. Paige actually responded in about 1-2 business days in response to my email that she have received all my college transcripts and application. I think it's best to email her since shes so busy with the application process.

I really foresee the future of pharmacy turning to this with emphasis on preventative care and MTM services.

Agreed. I'm really interested in helping to develop MTM so it is more manageable in community settings. From my personal experience working in retail, it's kind of a pain when you have to have a pharmacist step out for about an hour or so.
